Is Sylvania a good brand for LCD HDTV?

Q. a 32" with the digital (ATSC) tuner built in. whats the digital (ATSC) tuner?

I'm trying to pick out a good affordable HDTV :)

A. If you think a Kia is a good car brand.......than Sylvania is a good tv.

All sarcasm aside, No. Not a good brand. For a 32" I would stick with the name brands, Sony, Sharp, Toshiba (consumer reports top pick) LG and Samsung.

Is Samsung a REALIABLE lcd hdtv brand?
Q.

A. I have had my Samsung LCD TV (46" 60Hz) for the last year or so and I couldn't be happier. For inputs I only have an aerial antenna and it is able to pick up the major networks in HD. The picture quality looks great. A friend of mine brought over his PS3 this past weekend and we through in a blu-ray. He said it the picture was a marked improvement over his LG (not sure the specs on his TV though).

is aoc l32w861 lcd hdtv a good brand?

Q.

A. never heard of it and I would suggest you get a reputable LCD like samsung brands or Sony They are expensive but worth it, or better yet get a plasma made by panasonic they are cheaper than the expensive LCD's and have amazing picture. The problem with these noname cheap brands is poor refresh rate and contrast , I bought a noname brand LCD for cheap and the refresh rate is so bad, that when you want to watch sports or fast action movies, your TV will have blurring like crazy and it pissed me off so much that I am going to grab a panasonic 42 inch plasma for about 1200 , Plasma's have better colour, contrast , and superior refresh rates over LCD's.

What's a good LCD HDTV brand?
Q. I'm planning on buying 2 TV within the next couple of months. I did a lot of research but I want people's recommendations. I'm looking for 1 small TV ( 20 to 24 inch) and one big one (27 to 32 inch) at a reasonable price, between $500 to $1000. I'm NOT planning to buy any Westinghouse TV. Bought one a few weeks ago but had to return it because the audio didn't sync with the video, meaning the sound lag behind by 2 seconds to the picture, which go very annoying. There was some bad reviews on Westinghouse tvs and a few people had the same problem that I did. Any good brands besides Westinghouse?

A. AVOID Westinghouse, ILO, VIZIO, Polaroid, OLEVIA, and ANY BRAND NAME that is NEW.....(just appeared on the market in the last 5 years)

Sure they are cheap, but NO PARTS to repair them at all...

You really want a brand that has been out there for 15 years or more....
They are servicable, and have better technology designed into them.
They are WORTH the money.

SONY is the BEST LCD you can get, but Toshiba, Hitachi and Samsung do make RELIABLE TVs too....

What are the best brands/models for LCD HDTV?

Q. I've decided to go with an LCD HDTV and not a plasma. Can you recommend good brands and good models of TVS? I don't really want to spend more than $700, and I'm looking for a 37-40 inch.
Thank you.

A. According to Consumer Reports, Samsung is making the best LCD TV's on the market right now. Sony is second (but a bit overpriced) and Toshiba is 3rd.
Vizio represents a 2nd tier manufacturer with lower pricing that matches.
Personally, I've never had a Sony product that didn't fail before it should have, so I tend to stay away from Sony stuff.

Is VIZIO a good brand of LCD HDTV?

Q. I have $1500 budget to buy an HDTV, I prefer LCD 1020. I cannot decide which brand to choose.. SONY VIZIO or SAMSUNG?? Psl help me decide. Im looking for 40 in size.

A. Vizio is a third-tier brand. Parts are shipped from China made by other companies and they are assembled in LA and sold as 'house brands' in discount stores.

There is no repair service, quality on same model units varies a lot, etc.

The low prices ARE attractive but if it breaks - plan on tossing it and buying another.

Just below your post is another user who suddenly has lost video after leaving her Vizio on for 8 hours by accident.

While I am not a fan of service contracts - it might be a wise invesment for Vizio, Lutron, Dynex, Westinghouse, Robi, etc. brands.

what brand of lcd hdtv has the best repair history?
Q. I'm looking to buy a 52 inch LCD TV. What brand is most reliable? Also, what accessories do I need? Some people recommend the UPS instead of the expensive power surge protector.

A. Don't go by a single brand for your decision. You should look at specific models. Every brand makes stronger and weaker models. You want to get a good middle to high end model to best ensure you're getting the best parts.

All of the big name brands are going to be fairly comparable though reliability wise. Look to Panasonic (if you consider Plasma), Samsung, Sony, and LG. I think a set from any of those will serve you well from day of purchase until you're ready to buy again.

You likely want an HDMI cable, or two. Stick with no-name, generic brands. There are loads of consumer reports that have show the generic brands provide 100% equal quality as the big name, expensive options. Look to computer stores or online at like amazon.com, monoprice.com, bluejeanscable.com, etc. for good cheap cables. There's no need to spend more than $15 on a cable unless you're buying something of extreme length.

A UPS is handy to have sure, but we're not talking about needing to save documents here. UPS is good for a computer so the machine doesn't just turn off in a power outage. On your TV you just want to be worried about surge, so a good protector there is good enough really. Unless maybe the electricity in your area is really bad, in which case a UPS that also conditions the electricity might well be worth the investment.

How can I find out the manufacturer of a LCD HDTV Not just the company that slapped their name on the product

Q. I'm trying to figure out if it's better to buy a Name-Brand LCD HDTV or will a off-brand do fine? My guess is that alot of off-brand LCD TV's are off the same production line as the Name-Brand LCD TV's, just don't have the cool brand name stuck on it.

A. You are basically incorrect. A few of the crap brands are owned by the big boys, but they aren't made or designed the same way. Most are independent Chinese junk.
Nor is the warranty or after warranty support the same.
To a large extent, there is enough competition with these TVs that, you get what you pay for. There's still a premium for, say the Sony name, but a good part of the price difference between an RCA and a Sony is paying for performance, quality, warranty service, and the repair parts needed for service five years from now being available.

What do you think of the brand LG when it comes to lcd hdtv's?
Q. Im looking to purchaseing a 26" LCD HDTV, but i really dont know what brand to purchase. I looked at a LG and noticed the picture quality looked pretty good. It had good color, but dont know if its a good brand over all.

A. the sd picture on your 26" will look good, maybe a little foggy. Use the S-video input for the best results. I would avoid the HD programming option on a set that small because the HD resolution doesn't really shine until a 40" screen but that's with my eyes your results may vary

Q. How do I hook up a insignia lcd hdtv mounted on my wall to my xbox360 which is connect to suround sound and to the xbox brand hd dvd player????

A. Just use wires. It is like hooking up any other TV that is not on the wall. You can let them hang down and have a very unprofessional look or you can buy wires that are rated to go in the wall (make sure they are to avoid any code violations or insurance issues later) and then it will look more professional. Either way, you cannot run the power cord through the wall by law. Your best bet is, depending on the type of surround sound receiver you have, is to run all the wires into that and then 1 wire out to the TV.

How can you replace a broken LCD screen in a Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV?
Q. My sister in law left a broken Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. I looked online but I can't seem to find any place where I can find just the screen for replacement. Does anyone know where I can buy just the screen or how to fix it?

A. you need SKILLS and tools to replace the LCD DISPLAY PANEL.
However , if you known the PARTS COST , you will never want to replace it, and buy an new TV for sure.
New LCD display panel cost about 65 % of same screen size of new TV. + shipping and services charge to replace the panel . total is around 80 + % of new LCD TV.
will you still want to buy the display panel ?
Sylvania is handle by Funai same as Philips Brand TV sold in USA. the 42 inc display panel is made by Taiwan Che-Mei. if you comfortable with the prices. contact Funai USA.

Q. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6000 and my TV is a brand new LG LCD HDTV. What's the type of cable I need to buy to watch movies on my TV from my laptop?

A. i think you need VGA to VGA - then make sure you extend the image rather then just cloning the laptops image or you have to use the same resolution for both

Can you tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz HDTVs?

Q. I'm looking to buy a new TV, around 40" 1080p for gaming, movies, and sports. It seems you can't buy a 120hz LCD HDTV for under $800 but is it really worth it?

Also, do you notice the difference much between the generic brands and higher end brands?

Thanks in advance to those giving good advice!

A. I believe you will see a big difference between 60 and 120 Hz on a 40" TV. Fast action, like sports, will look more fluid and smooth with a higher refresh rate.

No disrespect intended to Jason, but I think you're better off with a name-brand TV. I run a technical training facility. I have 3 32" LCD TVs with 60 Hz refresh rates side-by-side - Sony, Phillips, and Insignia. The Insignia looks great by itself, but turn on the Sony and Phillips, and the Insignia obviously has a lower picture quality than the others.

When you're in the store looking at TVs, bear in mind that they adjust picture elements to make the picture look the best it can in that environment. Ask the salesperson to adjust the picture back to factory default for each set you are considering. Then you can compare apples to apples. (The picture will be somewhat dull under the lighting in the store. It will look brighter in your living room.)

So if I go with a 46 LCD HDTV 1080p what brands and models are some of the best to go with?
Q. I'm just wondering if anyone else has an opinion about what the best options are for 46 LCD HDTV 1080p flat screens. I'm debating between a Samsung or Sharp but I'm not too familiar with what to look for. Anyone have some advice?

A. Honestly the best thing to do is to look at reviews online and specifications from review sites. There are two models you should consider for the Samsung and Sharp 46 LCD HDTV 1080p. Take a look at the Samsung LN46C630 and the Sharp Quattron LE821E or Aquos. Take a look at the following site which is solid for consumer reviews on http://46lcdhdtv1080p-userreviews.com . Hopefully this helps out with your question, good luck.

Can my lcd hdtv survive out in my shed over the winter?

Q. I want to put my lcd hdtv out in my shed. I want to watch tv out there when i work on my snowmobile, but im not sure if the tv will be ok if left out there. I will heat the shed when out there, but not when im out there. The shed is fully weaterproof, but will still reach extreamly low temperatures.

A. The lowest of the low temperatures I saw (and this is brand, model and size dependent) was -22 degrees Fahrenheit. I wouldn't do it! Put a CRT out there, they can handle it, and if it dies....oh well. Don't hurt your HDTV if it means that much to you!
