Q. Ok I plan on buying a LCD HDTV with 1080p. When I buy any 1080p TV will it support every other resolution like 720p/1080i/480 even tho its 1080p?
I have a PS3 for Blu ray forgot to add that

Yes, your HDTV will display any lower resolution.

The Philips brand includes a feature called Pixel Plus that automatically upconverts lower resolution to higher resolution.

I have heard that to notice the difference in 1080p than 720p the screen size needs to be bigger than 42inches. A. Well, to start off, you do not need an Elite to get 1080p from the 360. Really it depends on the TV. Some TVs allow for 1080p from Component, VGA, and HDMI, and some others only allow it from VGA or HDMI. Most of the older 360 games were made for a max resolution of 720p. Fortunately, the majority of the games made since about 8 months ago have the ability to show in 1080p.
Upscaling will take a 480i to 720p picture and make it look more like 1080p. It won't look exactly like 1080p but it will get it very close.
Lots of people will tell you to get 1080p because "it's better", but like you said in the beginning, it's all relative. If you are going to sit between 2 or 3 feet from a 37" TV then you might see some difference between the two resolutions. Any further back though and your eyes just can't tell.In other words, the bigger the TV, the better it is for you to get a higher resolution. Aside from the high definition movies and games, not much else is broadcasting in 1080p. So, in my opinion, if you don't need 1080p, don't get it.

A. If your TV is 40inches and under, 1080p (Depending on viewing distance) will not look a lot better than 720p. Any TV bigger than 40 inches will notice an increase from 720p to 1080p. (Again depending on viewing distance)

If you have a 720p TV you may or may not be able to view a 1080p source. Not all 720p TV will accept a 1080p source, most will only accept a 1080i source. And if your TVs Native Resolution is only 720p, there is no point in running a 1080i signal, because the TV will just convert it to 720p anyways.

Why is there big price differences between HDTVs?

Q. I know Sony can be overpriced but i am talking in general, if they all are 1080p and they all have the same features and size why are some much more expensive than others? for example,at the store if i see two 32" LCD HDTVs 1080p, but one is 2000$ and the other is 4000$, different brands, why does one have a better picture than the other? what are the other factors which make that difference other than the resolution? and does sony have hidden features or what?

The text is razor-sharp, the graphics clear and vivid. I can't be happier with the result.

A lot depends on the quality of the TV set. An upper-end set like a Sony Bravia or Sharp Aquos will look nice. Lower-end sets might not look as nice.

How do I know I am getting HD channels, in 1080p?

Q. I just bought a 42 inch vizio lcd hdtv 1080p, how do I know my hd channels are coming in at 1080p. (if that makes sense)

A. They aren't. Broadcast television right now employs 1080i and 720p signals only. Dish Network claims 1080p, but I think there's some kind of loophole or fine print which allows them to say that, but in reality its not what it is. You're really only going to find 1080p from BluRay discs.

To get HD on your new set though you simply have to tune into the HD channels. So say NBC is channel 15, well its still SD on channel 15, even with your new set. You need to find NBC HD which is an entirely different channel (maybe its 110 or 208, could be anything). Find the HD channels, watch those, and then you'll get maximizing your purchase.

How to get a better picture quality on a lcd hdtv?

Q. I recently bought a 1080p lcd hdtv, right now im watching tv just through basic cable without a cable box or anything else. But when im watching tv i dont feel the picture quality is very good, it looks somewhat blurry and i just dont feel like im getting what im suppose to. I wasnt really expecting that though it being an HD ready tv and putting out 1080p. Would getting an HD cable box from my cable provider help?

A. The picture looks bad because you are looking at standard-definition channels, not HD channels.

HDTVs usually make standard-def channels look WORSE, not better!

So what you need to do is get some HD channels.

To do that with cable, you probably have to upgrade your cable account to pay extra for HD and get an HD cable box. But before you do that, you could try without a box, and have your TV scan for new channels (tell it you have digital cable when you start the scan), and it may pick up a few channels (mostly major networks) in HD. If you are happy with just those in HD, you might not need to pay extra for HD.

How to get a better picture quality on a lcd hdtv?

Q. I recently bought a 1080p lcd hdtv, right now im watching tv just through basic cable without a cable box or anything else. But when im watching tv i dont feel the picture quality is very good, it looks somewhat blurry and i just dont feel like im getting what im suppose to. I wasnt really expecting that though it being an HD ready tv and putting out 1080p. Would getting an HD cable box from my cable provider help?

A. The picture looks bad because you are looking at standard-definition channels, not HD channels.

HDTVs usually make standard-def channels look WORSE, not better!

So what you need to do is get some HD channels.

To do that with cable, you probably have to upgrade your cable account to pay extra for HD and get an HD cable box. But before you do that, you could try without a box, and have your TV scan for new channels (tell it you have digital cable when you start the scan), and it may pick up a few channels (mostly major networks) in HD. If you are happy with just those in HD, you might not need to pay extra for HD.

Is it normal to see some white back light on LCD tvs during black background moments?

Q. Just purchased a Sony 40" LCD, 120 hz, HDTV/1080p TV. And my only gripe is when my screen is showing a black background, you can see the areas of the screen where the whiter areas from the backlight show. It's barely noticeable, but I wanted to make sure it's a fairly normal thing w LCD tvs?

A. It's a flaw of LCD TV and yes it's normal. The best LCD/LED TVs can keep this down, or make it harder to detect. Something to remember when people are shouting that LCD is better than plasma.
