How to get a better picture quality on a lcd hdtv?

Q. I recently bought a 1080p lcd hdtv, right now im watching tv just through basic cable without a cable box or anything else. But when im watching tv i dont feel the picture quality is very good, it looks somewhat blurry and i just dont feel like im getting what im suppose to. I wasnt really expecting that though it being an HD ready tv and putting out 1080p. Would getting an HD cable box from my cable provider help?

A. The picture looks bad because you are looking at standard-definition channels, not HD channels.

HDTVs usually make standard-def channels look WORSE, not better!

So what you need to do is get some HD channels.

To do that with cable, you probably have to upgrade your cable account to pay extra for HD and get an HD cable box. But before you do that, you could try without a box, and have your TV scan for new channels (tell it you have digital cable when you start the scan), and it may pick up a few channels (mostly major networks) in HD. If you are happy with just those in HD, you might not need to pay extra for HD.

Hanspree 32" LCD HDTV overall picture and quality?
Q. There is one on Costco.Com for $269.00 which sounds like a great deal and I'd really like to replace my p.o.s. old TV. I'll probably use it for video games mostly so I just want to make sure it's durable, has good picture/sound etc. I've never heard of the brand so has anyone ever bought one of these?Anyone bought the one I'm talking about off of costco?

A. Hanspree is a budget tv brand and would avoid makes you've never heard of especially if you are using it to play games on. Usually the panel itself a cheaper and so they put lower quality components inside, thus reducing overall reliability.

The best makes are Panasonic, Sony and Samsung. You could even go for an LG or Toshiba, and it will definitely be better than a Hanspree :)

A 46-inch LCD HDTV without upconversion and connected via S-video...what'll be the picture quality on the tv?

Q.

A. I used to install cable/satellite and people who were getting HD programming installed would sometimes say the HD channels weren't clear enough. After 5 years of installing, my opinion is beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But coming from an ex-installer, I wouldn't brag that I had a tv connected through S-video. About the only difference you would see between that and a cable plugged directly from the wall is going to be the brightness of colors. This can give a false impression of a "good" picture. While S-video will definitely give brighter colors, your picture may still be distorted because of the simple fact that you have a non-hd picture being displayed on a HDTV. Trust me, you lose picture quality viewing non-HD channels on a HDTV because the picture has to be stretched more.

Can a Wii ruin a 32 inch Sony Bravia L series LCD HDTV's picture quality?
Q. I know that an Xbox 360 and a PS3 are made for HDTVs, but what about a wii? I have a wii and am about to move in a 32 inch Sony Bravia TV into my room, but my uncle says a wii willl ruin it's picture quality. Please I really need help! Best answer to anyone with expierience!

A. I've heard rumours that leaving a picture on an LCD for too long burns it in, but I don't personally believe that. Games consoles are not designed to ruin picture quality on TVs. If they were, do you think they'd be half as popular?

Will a HDMI cable really change the picture quality of my LCD?

Q. I just bought a 46" Samsung LCD HDTV 1080 and was wondering how to get a better picture quality could anyone tell me what type and brand HDMI cable to buy? Would it really make a difference?

A. Of course the picture will look better with HDMI but only if your going to have a high definition source coming from it like HD cable, blu ray player, or a dvd upconverter, or ps3. But if your going to not have an HD source than a HDMI cable is useless.

Brand doesnt matter and the difference from a Monster HDMI Cable and a Phillips HDMI cable is minimal to no difference at all. so dont let the best buy employees rip you.

What is the best picture clarity setting for my 32" vizio LCD HDTV?
Q. I need to know the best setting for the picture Quality, so that its not fuzzy and i need the best color settings. i have a vizo 32" LCD HDTV. i want it too look like the picture Quality at the store like best buy.

A. Make sure you are tuned to an HDTV station..?? Are you on a cable box with HD?? Satellite?? ON my cable box, the normal channel 4 is like the old analog.. Channel 404 is in HD.. (Different in other areas.) Check with your cable provider. I also like to run the Sharpness in the 'Picture' options rather high. Part of your Menu settings... Most sets are pretty well set up when sold in a default condition..

How do I change the resolution of my Toshiba tv from 480p to 720p?

Q. I bought a Toshiba 19" LCD HDTV for watching movies and playing video games. Most of the games I have are 720p and higher, and on the box of the tv it says that it has that resolution. How do I change from 480p to 720p for better picture quality and overall performance?

A. The resolution is set by the video, the TV is just reporting what it is getting. So, if it says 480, then your device is feeding it SD video.

Check your game and make sure it's set to output 720p or 1080i. Also, you will need to connect the game to the TV with something that can support HD like a HDMI or component cables.

Should I buy an 1080p hdtv with basic dish network satellite service?
Q. I'm thinking about buying a Vizio VX240M 24" LCD HDTV, but I know my moms not going to be up for getting an HD box. Is it even worth buying, will the picture quality look bad with regular satellite service?

A. You'll see the Dish digital channels (they're all digital) in very fine standard definition video. It will look great on your proposed purchase; it just won't be HD. But the set will be able to produce HD from other sources, like a DVD player or, if you're lucky enough to be in a strong signal area for over-the-air TV, from an external antenna.

Will an HDMI cable have any effect on picture quality with a PS3 connected to a 720p TV?

Q. I have a Vizio 32" LCD HDTV that displays in 720p, as well as a PS3. If I hook it up with an HDMI cable instead of the Red-White-Yellow cord, will it have any effect on the picture quality?

A. Compared to red-white-yellow, yes. Red-white-yellow (actually just Yellow) is just Composite, which does only 480i

Compared to Component ( red-green-blue-red-white), not for gaming anyways. Both it and HDMI do 720p or better.
