A. yes it is true that lcd's can have motion blur due to low frequency refresh rate, but if you are just an average gamer you wont notice it unless you really look in detail, many modern lcd tv's have built in features that allow you to reduce the motion blur.

but yes that tv will be fine for you if you are just a standard gamer.

A. I had black bars on my standard def 23 inch tv. I got a 26 inch HDTV Widescreen and it solved the problem. No black bars.

As well I have heard good things of LG lately, but have never seen one.

Heres my reasoning...
First off, you will need an HDMI port, and a cable. Many HDTV's will also have "gaming" setting included. Do not be fooled by these however, this does not mean that they are better than others.

There are a few different kind of tv's to look at. Plasma, LCD, and LED. Well and OLED, but those are extremely expensive.

Plasma is generaly referred to as the best screen for sports. But is prone to burn in, and is quite expensive.

Flourescent backlit LCD televsions are the cheapest. This is because of how they operate. However because of this, the contrast is not as good. This means that you wont get very dark blacks when there are bright whites on the screen.

LED televisions dont technically exsist. They are referred to as LED but they are actually LCD LED televisions. These are LCD displays that are backlit with LED's. This means a better contrast, along with a smaller size, but a higher price tag.

As far as size, I found that the smaller the display the better it looks. I have a 32 inch westinghouse. While it is not horrible, it is nowhere near the best. When I moved to college I got a 19 inch or so SYLVANIA display. It looks amazing for games. So keep this in mind. They are also cheaper!

If you are sold on the size of 27 - 34, look for a 1080p tv. However this is not extremely necessary, as well I will personally state that the difference between HDMI and COMPONENT really isnt that large. I have used both. And compared both. When you are playing a game, this slight graphic difference is rarely noticable at all!

I suggest buying a television in person. The best thing to do is look at the contrast. If they images they are showing on the screen do not include very dark blacks and very light whites at the same time, they are doing this to make them look better. Youll know what im talking about when you see a television that does not deal with this well. The black looks more like varying shades of gray blocks...

if i had to guess i bet its your xbox when you moved in the screen. do the normal channels work? the whole screen might be broken. sometimes tvs have messed up screens. one of mine was green in one corner. do some research and look into it. one last thing. im not sure ut you should see if the hd cord is plugged in. i dont use a hdtv so im not sure if you need one for it or if it is optional. it should come with all xbox 360.(might only come with elites) but im pretty sure if you dont have one you can get it for 20$ or less.try amazon : )

These TV's have a great picture no matter where you are at in the room. taking into consideration price and picture and size the top two are the best, but the 40" is the best looking HDTV I have ever seen.

Samsung makes some TV's like the ones above specifically for gaming. I wanted the 40", but it was too expensive and I couldn't afford it, but the 32" is also a beautiful tv. I would suggest getting yours at Ultimate Electronics, because if you can find the same tv for cheaper within 60 days they will refund you the difference.
I also wouldn't go with Plasma, a lot of Plasmas have a burn-in feature meaning that if you keep your game paused for too long that picture will be on your tv permanently.

Q. I got it last night and i tried to hook it up, but all i got was the 360 in black and white until i switched the 360 cable to hdtv, then it went blank. I have 2 trio of cables, red, green, blue and yellow, red, white.

A. Green, Blue, Red + Red/White = Component Video w/ audio
Yellow + Red/White = Composite video w/ audio

If your TV does not have Component inputs, then you can't use those cables. If you try you will get the Black and White image that you describe. You have to use the matching colors. If your TV only has Composite inputs, then you need to use the composite outputs from the Xbox 360, which would be the Yellow video cord and the red/white audio cords.

Composite video is SD only though. So it won't maximize the fact that you have an HDTV. But from what you describe that's the only way you can hook it up currently. The Component cables are HD capable, but again, your TV must have that option, and from the sounds of it, it does not.

You should consider getting an HDMI cable and using the Xbox's HDMI port. That is likely your only HD option that both pieces of gear have. You can get them for cheap in computer stores (get a no-name brand one), or online at like amazon.com, monoprice.com, and bluejeanscable.com. Never pay more than about $10-$15 for an HDMI cable. The cheap ones perform 100% as good as the expensive ones.

The HDMI cable hookup will allow you send an HD signal from your Xbox to your TV. That will then maximize the potential of the TV.

A. If you set your Xbox 360 to display 16:9 aspect and also make the TV display the fullscreen (you can usually rotate from 4:3/Zoom/Wide etc. etc.) then you'll get the full picture.

You will be connecting the TV to the soundbar via optical cable and the setting then TV speakers to External in the user menu. Then connect everything using HDMI and your cooking with gas.

Get that, then you can really watch movies in true HD (remember, you'll have to buy HD-DVD discs. They cost like $25 at the moment. They can play dvds, but will not be in HD).

Also, make sure you have the component cables, as the standard AV cables (red, yellow, white) cannot play any HD formats. I'm sure your tv has them, but make sure you have component inputs (red, blue, green) for the component cables. I'm not sure if the hd-dvd add-on will use DVI or HDMI, but those are both useful inputs as well.

And, for surround sound from your 360, a standard theatre-in-a-box that has Dolby Digital, DTS, etc will work. You'll just need an optical audio cable to run from your 360 to the theatre receiver, as the red and white audio cables cannot support DD or DTS, only stereo and mono.

All together, it'll cost you around $500, +/- $100 to get setup for true HD and surround sound.

A. Wait a few weeks and you can buy the HD-DVD add-on for the XBox 360, which at $200 will be a very affordable way to start watching high-definition discs (HD-DVDs).

Note that regular DVD's are not HD-quality, though you can buy upconverting players that will make them look better on HDTV's. I presume that, like standalone HD-DVD players, the XBox 360 HD-DVD add-on will be capable of upconverting.

As for surround sound, I can't single out a specific brand, but you'll want to look into receivers with HDMI inputs for the best quality--or at the very least, digital inputs and 5.1 outputs.

Why do my XBOX 360 games get dark when my character turns?

Q. I recently got HD for my XBOX 360 on my new LCD HDTV. While playing some games, such as Oblivion, on HD, when I turn my character the peripheral of the camera gets dark, especially in darker areas of my vision, such as a tree or grassless hill. Is there a known cause or solution for this?

A. An LCD TV is designed to give you a better picture which any lighting hitting on the screen and making it impossible to see. Most games now use a lighting technology which makes it more realistic when going in and out of houses (darker and bright places). In your case, this maybe just a TV position or high lighting glare (not likely).

Also, make sure you have the component cables, as the standard AV cables (red, yellow, white) cannot play any HD formats. I'm sure your tv has them, but make sure you have component inputs (red, blue, green) for the component cables. I'm not sure if the hd-dvd add-on will use DVI or HDMI, but those are both useful inputs as well.

And, for surround sound from your 360, a standard theatre-in-a-box that has Dolby Digital, DTS, etc will work. You'll just need an optical audio cable to run from your 360 to the theatre receiver, as the red and white audio cables cannot support DD or DTS, only stereo and mono.

All together, it'll cost you around $500, +/- $100 to get setup for true HD and surround sound.

Why do my XBOX 360 games get dark when my character turns?

Q. I recently got HD for my XBOX 360 on my new LCD HDTV. While playing some games, such as Oblivion, on HD, when I turn my character the peripheral of the camera gets dark, especially in darker areas of my vision, such as a tree or grassless hill. Is there a known cause or solution for this?

A. An LCD TV is designed to give you a better picture which any lighting hitting on the screen and making it impossible to see. Most games now use a lighting technology which makes it more realistic when going in and out of houses (darker and bright places). In your case, this maybe just a TV position or high lighting glare (not likely).

Would I be able to hear sound from those devices if the soundbar is connected to the TV or does it have to be connected to the specific device in use at the time?

A. Yes.

You will be connecting the TV to the soundbar via optical cable and the setting then TV speakers to External in the user menu. Then connect everything using HDMI and your cooking with gas.

A. For an Xbox 360, the best resolution is 1080p, so an HDTV that offers this resolution will be what you want. An HDTV-Ready television does not have a built-in HD receiver, while an HDTV does. Look at the picture quality of different sets and determine the best one for your needs -and voila!

A. Well, you know you want to go with an HDTV, thats good. The question is what technology you want to go with. There is rear projection, DLP, LCD and Plasma. You said you were playing games, so image burn-in is probably going to be a big problem for you. You will have a score or a map in the corner of your screen constantly, which isn't good for some types of tv's.

Rear projection is the older style tv's that are normally 2-3 feet deep and sit on the floor. They are inexpensive, but HUGE.

DLP is a newer technology. It isn't quite as large as a rear projection tv, but they surely aren't flat. The nice thing about a DLP is, it is immune to image burn in.

LCD is also a newer technology. It is a flat panel technology that is wall mountable. It is just about as prone to burn in as your average CRT.

Plasma is also a newer technology that has come a long way. Plasma's are also wall mountable. The problem with plasma is it is extremely prone to burn in. If you are going to be playing games on it a lot, that isn't good for a plasma. Are you constantly going to be playing games for 6 hours at a time, or do you play it for an hour at a time then go do something else? That is a decision you have to make.

If you are looking to go very inexpensive, go with a rear projection. If you don't need to wall mount it, but want a bit of a better picture, go with DLP. If you want to wall mount it and have some more money, go with a LCD or Plasma. Just make sure you realize that a plasma is prone to burn-in.
