HDTV quality disappoint?

Q. Recently purchased a Polaroid 32 inch LCD HDTV, and I was very disappointed in the way it looked, plugged in and showing analog channels, and quality viewing in general. Is this normal, or should I really buy an HDMI cable, HD cable box, to truly view it as HDTV?

A. It's normal.

The problem with HDTVs are that the quality is low for SD signals and high for HD signals. Unfortunately, you have to deal with it until you upgrade to HD cable or satellite service.

Upgrading your TV service to digital and connect with an HDMI will cable will help slightly.

HDTV is high resolution. SD signals have 2.5 less resolution, therefore the TV has to upscale the image. Upscaling causes fuzzy edges, video artifacts and video noise. HDTV by design scale all images to the native resolution of the HDTV, either 1280x720 or 1920x1080.

plasma or lcd hdtv?!?!?!?
Q. I was sure that lcd was better because i heard that u can have some kind of contrast burn from plasma but now im seeing that some people swear by their plasma as if it was amazing. Anyone with some insight>!????????

A. Plasma's have the best picture quality...PERIOD!

They don't suffer from burn-in anymore!
They don't use anymore electricity then other TV's on average usage!
And screen glare isn't as bad as it used to be!

They have the highest contrast ratio's(2,000,000:1 dynamic; 40,000:1 native) and the fastest refresh rates(600hz)! This makes them perfect for sports, movies & gaming! See the link below for more info and FACTS!

There still seems to be a lot of people on this website that seem to not want to come out of the HDTV Plasma dark ages! ALL of the problems that Plasma's have been plagued with in the past are gone! LCD lovers have nothing to use against Plasma's nowadays...but that doesn't mean they're gonna stop trying!!! DON'T LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE! Seek the truth!

Sony - BRAVIA XBR Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV?
Q. I have a Sony - BRAVIA XBR Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV.
Everytime when I'm watching a movie and when the movie goes dark, the screen goes dark, too. How can I adjust this problem?
Thanks

A. The short answer is that you cannot adjust this behavior, as it is intentional.

All LCD HDTVs have a light source behind the LCD panel. The LCD panel itself does not emit any light, it only filters it. So in order to see an image, a light is shined through the panel from the rear.

Your particular TV uses CCFL lighting, or Cold Cathode Fluorescent. If you were to look behind your LCD panel, you would see several very thin fluorescent lamps behind it.

Any time the scene being displayed is bright, the lamps will burn at full brightness. However, if a dark scene is displayed, the lamps will automatically dim to improve the black level of the scene. Unfortunately, while this behavior is intentional, it can be very noticeable and distracting while watching your movie.

Newer LED-backlit LCD HDTVs eliminate this problem. If you were to look behind the panel of an LED-backlit LCD HDTV, instead of seeing several long fluorescent tubes, you would see an array of tiny LED lights. With fluorescent backlighting, when the movie scene dims, all of the fluorescent tubes dim simultaneously, darkening the entire screen. With an LED array behind the TV, the TV is able to dim only certain parts of the screen, so that only the portions that are actually intended to be dark are darkened, without losing any brightness where it isn't desired.

For an excellent video explanation of CCFL vs. LED backlighting, see here:

http://www.sonyinsider.com/2009/04/12/sony-triluminos-explained/

However it is important to note that not all LED-backlit TVs are able to selectively dim portions of the scene. If the TV uses an "edge-lit" LED backlight, that means all the LED lights are arranged around the edge of the panel instead of behind it, and are reflected towards the panel with prisms or mirrors. This type of LED backlight dims in the same all-or-none method as a CCFL backlight.

Vizio GV42L 42" HDTV LCD settings?
Q. I just bought a Vizio GV42L 42" LCD HDTV. Just a few questions:
1) what settings have you used for cable programming and/or movies, as I hear to get good picture you really need to tweak it right.
2) I have my comcast HD DTS box and progressive scan DVD player connected to the Vizio using component cables. When I'm watching an HD channel, it does look HD, and when I'm watching a DVD It does look much higher quality than typical analog cables..However, when I press the info button. It still says resolution coming it at only 480i. Should I be concerned and/or try using HDMI cables instead?
~Gavin Ng

A. I ran into this problem with my Samsung LCD.. the Cox Cable HD box wasn't automatically converting the signal to 1080i. You'll have to go into the settings of your cable box and manually switch it to 1080i... I ran through a setup process that it displays a bunch of screens and which ever one you can see it programs the box to use ...after that it automatically switched between the 1080i for the HD channels and lower 720/480 for the non HD channels.

Call your cable provider.. thats what i did to figure out the setup program.

Q. Where can I find reviews and opinions online for Sharp AQUOS LC46BD80U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?
HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

* Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
* Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Best LCD HD over 50' and with great PIP?
Q. I am looking for the best LCD HDTV that is over 50 inches and is VERY GOOD FOR GAMING... also i would really like for this TV to be able to utilize Picture in Picture well enough that i could watch TV while using my Macbook computer at the same time (I believe its a VGA input needed)...any suggestions?

A. ive got a 50" Samsung Plasma and it looks great ^-^

and my friend has a 60" plasma and that looks great also....but i would recommend getting a TV that big for HD gaming only i.e. Xbox 360 using HD cables or PS3 using HDMI.

When using SCART with a screen that big the picture looks terrible because the resolution is strecthed to the max. I think it would do this with the Wii although i havnt tryed it, the Wii uses SCART so theres a good chance it will. I have cable TV running through my 50" and the picture looks a little grainy because it isnt in HD, but your eyes adjust to it after a while...

...im not splashing out on an extra £10 a month just for a clearer picture with cable TV in HD! ^-^

...EDIT: also the new samsung TVs have both the VGA port and Picture-in-picture feature you are looking for....i know because i use both regularly with my laptop ^-^

LCD HDTV under $1000?

Q. I'm looking for a 30" (or so) LCD HDTV under $800 or if more expensive at least under $1000.
where should i buy, or be looking?

A. I would recommend the Toshiba 32" REGZA Black HD LCD TV. It will cost about a $100 or a little less and perhaps you might be able to find it cheaper. There is also a 26" model too which is of course cheaper.

The thing to look for in these TV's is the contrast ratio which means the higher the ratio, the better color contrast you will see. Another good thing to have is more HDMI inputs. This Toshiba model has 3. So you can hook up a cable/satellite box, video game, and blu-ray or HD-DVD player directly to the TV.

Where you go to buy it depends on where you live. I live in Chicago so Abt Electronics and Fry's Electronics are the best. Stores with a lot of different brands set up together are great places to check out which ones have the best pictures and are withing your price range. Also remember that cables connecting your TV to DVD players, game systems, etc. are expensive too. I would think about getting the warranty and of course you can price shop those as well.

Once you decide on what brand you want, use Google Product search to find who is selling it and for how much. I would stay away from generic/store brands and also LG because many of their products are defective. Best Buy always pushes that crap so don't listen to their lies when they say it is a good brand. Besides Toshiba, I also like the Philips, Samsung, Panasonic, and of course Sony although those are more expensive.

Good luck!

whats better led of lcd?

Q. what has better picture quality. what is the difference. is it better to get a 40inch led or lcd

A. Samsung PN60E550 60-Inch 1080p 600Hz 3D Slim Plasma HDTV (Black) is fantastic, it's been over a month and no problems. The only issue is the netflix app stopped working for a couple of days and requires updates to fix. The shipping service was a day late and the moving guys who moved the TV into the house were not very professional. Good TV mediocre delivery service.

Panasonic TC-P65S2 65-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV or Sony BRAVIA 60" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LED-LCD HDTV?
Q. I'm stuck between these two tvs. Would love to get more opinions about the two. Thanks!

A. The Panasonic Plasmas consistently ranks in the top 1 or 2 and is currently ranked number 1 in a few audio visual mags

What's the best way to take care of an LCD HDTV?
Q. I just bought a Vizio 26in 1080p HDTV adn I want it to last me. What is the best way to make sure my tv last long.

A. Take it back and get a better quality TV. A vizio is basically a WalMart type LCD tv. I had one and it lasted me only 3 years. I bought a LG after (way better quality) and I find it helpful that there are so many places that can fix LGs that if any problems happen I can take them almost anywhere. Plus Wal Mart is known for quality. Those TVs are made cheap. But if this isnt an option, an LCD tv is pretty much like any TV. Just dont throw anything at the screen and keep the default settings set. They normally are the better settings

LCD? LED? HDTV? What does all this mean?

Q. I'm about to buy a new TV since mine just went out. And since i'm about to be spending about a grand on a TV i'd like to get my moneys worth.. But their is all this new stuff.. What does all of it mean? Any suggestions? I'm wanting a Samsung 46" but LCD? LED? what..

A. Flat screen TV's are based on LCD technology (liquid crystal display). Plasma (PDP) is a different technology with similar results. LED means light emitting diode and is the basis of how your remote control and TV communicate. It's also an emerging display technology that uses less juice than LCD or plasma but they are still pricey, though the display will likely last far longer than its competition. As far as picking a TV goes, a big issue to consider is with inputs, outputs, and filters that will enhance the usability of your new HDTV. The more features you select, the more backwards compatibility you will have (ability to plug in your old NES or VCR). The overall performance also relies on advanced features. So basic guidelines for shopping would be to get a brand name TV, meaning a large and successful brand like Sony, Samsung, get the picture? As far LCD or plasma, that will depend on your viewing environment: a dark, cinematic setting will probably do well with plasma, and normal living room setting, you'll want the LCD. On a personal note, take your grand, do something GOOD with it (charity or a gift for your mom), and don't let the size of your TV symbolize how big a man you are. :-)

TV Experts, PLEASE HELP!... LCD/LED HDTV?!?
Q. Ok planning on getting a TV, stuck between:

LG 47'' :
LG47LH90

ORRRR

SHARP AQUOS 46''
LC46LE700UN

Please take a look and tell me which is better!!

ALso, what is that LED LCD crap? is it better?!

A. LCD and LED are actually two different types of TV's. LED usually has better color quality and lighting, as well as viewing angle, but they run quite expensive.

After reviewing the two HDTV's you've listed, the LG 47" is a sure winner and I would highly recommend it. The specifications are better and will give you a better picture. It has a great design as well, which is great with HDTV's.

EDIT: For the guy below me, pardon my error. I misread something I suppose. I did research again, and LED TV's do in fact have better power consumption.

LG 32" LH30 1080p LCD HDTV.?

Sanyo 55 inch LCD HDTV picture quality problem?
Q. I bought the sanyo 55 inch tv from walmart (model number DP55360). I saw this tv in store and thought it had an amazing clear picture and was a great buy. However when I set it up the picture is very poor quality. It seems very dark and blurry. Is there any way I can fix this without returning it? I've already turned the brightness all the way up and tried a thx optimizer from one of my movies but neither work. Please help!!!

A. Firstly, Sanyo does not make quality TV's.

Secondly, raising the brightness actually makes the display worse on an LCD TV.

I have no idea what's wrong, but I'd advise taking it back and returning it for another brand. I'd advise Samsung or Sharp as quality sets.

LCD TV anchoring/mounting question?

Q. I'm wondering if anyone here would be able to help with my current problem.

I'm a proud owner of a new Sony 46" LCD Tv; and with the amount of money we have spent, the wife is
insistent that we securely anchor the set to the wall behind the set.

To be clear, we do not want to wall mount, but to anchor to the wall with cables, etc.

The problem is that the TV does not ship with any mounting/anchoring hardware; and when "shopping"
for mounting hardware, we can only find wall mounting gear.

I have purchased the M6 screw/bolts that will go into the back of the set, but I need some sort of
flat washer that will have a "mounting loop" to which I can thread with 1/4" braided steel wire.

I have spent some time at my local Lowes store and could not find anything, but I don't know if what I'm looking for exists, or what to call it.

I was hoping that someone here could either provide me with a weblink; or a industry accepted name for this type of an item.

Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, January 29, 2006
By Steff "tech freak" (Green Bay, WI) - See all my reviews
This wall mount amazed me with the hardware included. Every screw that could be used with a TV out there was included. It was simple to install and does the job, why pay a lot more for a similar unit. It doesn't let you tilt the TV, but if you just look for a mount that allows you to hang your TV flat on the wall, this is the unit to buy. I used it for a 32" LCD flat panel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product -- the manufacturer has thought it out carefully, January 30, 2007
By Mark Bookworth "MB" (Bermuda) - See all my reviews
This is a very solid steel mount which easily handles our 40" LCD TV. The packaging is outstanding (really) in that all the hardware you need is enclosed in carefully compartmentalized plastic bags.

After mounting, you can slide the TV left or right a few inches if required. It is also possible to "lock" the TV to the mount but it is a bit of a pain as you need to use a specially designed (included) allan key and the screw is so close to the wall that you can't turn the key through 360 degrees. It also tend to dust your knuckles a bit as you turn it. Finally, it becomes impossible to tilt the TV out enough to change the cables at the back once the lock screw is tightened.

Once mounted, I found the TV to be very close to the wall so if you have component cables with long plugs they may touch the wall when the TV is in place.

When installing mounts like these, pay very close attention to the instructions as you must make sure there is a sound mechanical connection with a stud or cement block. Drywall alone will not work as a mounting surface. Mounting to metal studs is particularly troublesome.

I installed it on cinder block and plaster without difficulty. Thankfully the force applied by the TV is mostly downward rather than outward in the case of a tube TV so you can feel quite comfortable that the thing will stay put as long as you mount it carefully. Use a level.

It is just a pleasure to use such a well designed and carefully thought out product.

Best LCD TV....?
Q. I am looking for an LCD flat panel HD 1080p TV. I am looking in the 48 inch + range. Money is not a huge factor (looking to spend $5000 or less). I am looking for the BEST tv for the money. Anyone with experience or just LOVES there LCD let me know!! (I will be picking a best answer by the way =] )

A. The February issue of Consumer Reports has just come out with reviews of many TVs. The highest rated 46" LCD TV was the Sony KDL-46XBR5. The highest rated 52" LCD was the Sony KDL-52XBR4. Both are under $4000.
I have a Sony 40", and yes, I do love it! I bought it because of it's good rating in CR's November issue, and they were correct!

The new LCD HDTV's???

Q. SO do the new LCD TV's with Auto Motion Plus look like Plasmas or are Plasmas still better?
AND how long do i hae to to leave a still image for my Plasma to Burn-In (in hours please or days)
THANK YOU

A. LCD of any kind is inherently flawed in motion playback. The manufacturers have come out with advanced features to help reduce the problem. Things like 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates and what you mention. These things help a lot, but they do not solve the problem entirely. Plasma is near instantaneous response time right out of the box; its flawless in motion playback.

CCFL LCDs (the majority) have muted colors, grey blacks, and average contrast. Manufacturers have looked to solve this issue with the LED LCD. This helps the matter in a huge way. But be ready to pay $$$. Plasma has vivid colors, true blacks, deep contrast right out of the box, and is still better than LED LCD.

If you get a Plasma just condition it. For the first 20-50 hours don't play video games. For the first 100-200 hours keep the brightness and contrast cranked way down. Then optimize and enjoy. And buy a Panasonic Plasma and it comes with additional anti-image retention features, above and beyond the advances in the technology.

Burn-in that actually might occur will vary from image to image. There is no answer to that. But typically you can get away with several hours without any big issue (so like logos from TV stations and such, not a big deal, even when watching a movie). But I wouldn't leave a video game on pause for an extended period of time. If you need to pause it just shut off the TV screen (but leave the console on). Not really hard to do.

Thanks

A. I was just googling and came across this product hope it helps you

Tv Deals on black friday 2011?
Q. I want a tv that fits these specs
$250-325
42"
LCD
1080p
sound can be absolute trash
60f refresh rate (preferably 120)
good contrast ratio

I find this pretty standard but the most important is: $250-350; 42"; 1080p

A. All I know is that Walmart is going to have a 40" Emerson 1080P HDTV for $248 on black Friday. It has a 60Hz refresh rate. As far as 120Hz vs 60Hz goes you probably won't notice unless watching movies or sports. And if you're watching movies you either may or may not like it. It makes movies look more like home videos rather than movies. If you like to play video games you want 60Hz because there is more lag with 120Hz.

I just found out Best Buy is going to have an LG 42 inch HDTV for $250 on Black Friday. It will be a killer deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good device for good price, April 3, 2009
By Heero (Mansfield, TX USA)
I just received this television. My first impression is great. I've been investigating diffrent brands and different models of LCD TV's for a while. Here is the conclusion I reached and the reasons for purchasing this TV:

* Sony has great models for over $2500. They have great picture but not great enough to compensate for the couple of thousand extra dollars paid. I saw 46XBR6 and 46V5100 next to each other in BB and did not see a significant difference except the price.
* Samsungs have great LCD TVs. But glossy screen would not work for me at all. I have a bright living room where my TV is located. So, if you will have your TV in a bright room, you probably would like to avoid glossy screens like Samsung has. It really reflects a lot almost like a mirror. This was a big deal for me.

Now, my experice with KDL46V5100 is as follows:
It has great picture quality. I did not expect it to be so good at even SD. It is very easy to use. We plugged the TV and started to use it right away. Even user's manual is just a few pages. Before buying the TV I paid extra attention to the wide angle performance. This TV has about the same view from front and from sides: no changes in color or image quality with angle that I recognized.

I am extremely satisfied with the Amazon delivery. They brought the TV, unpacked it and installed the TV on the stand.

Good TV for good price and good service from Amazon...

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TV, May 19, 2009
By John Difebbo "Flightsim-USAF" (Jacksonville, AR)
(REAL NAME)
I recently purchased the Sony Bravia 46V5100, and wow is all i can say. This is my first HD anything purchase, although i did a ton of research for over a year, im glad i chose this Sony. I also promptly purchased the playstation 3 for the games and blu-ray, along with the HD package from the cable company, and it blows me away. The picture never blurs or anything like that, im a huge NASCAR fan and there is no blurring, no skipping and you never miss a bit of the action, and of course its the fastest sport on TV. With all the HDMI inputs, i dont know what else i can put in there to make it better, theres more than enough room for all the accessories. The screen is what made the difference for me between this Sony and the Samsung of the equivilant. The screen is not as glossy as the samsung, although the bezel is as shiny as the rest, you hardly notice it. The white glove delivery was great, i was notified of every step of the journey for my TV, the delivery guys unloaded it, ops checked it and explained some of the features. The only problem was a "feature" that came with the TV that darkens the screen during dark scenes on a movie or TV show, this problem has been fixed by a software update, found on the Sony support web site. its a very easy fix, just requiring an USB memory stick, or if you dont have one the Sony people will send you one. The update just takes minutes and makes a world of difference. I was a bit nervous about buying a TV online, but i went and checked it out at best buy, and it was about $400 less at amazon than at best buy, so my decision was made for me. Over all its a great tv, and a great price for the size of the TV. Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this one, not the Samsung!, April 11, 2009
By L. Silver "silver212" (nyc)
(REAL NAME)
I researched 46 inch lcd tv's for months, and every site recommended the Samsung 550, so I bought it. I'm not a techie, so I'll just say this: the speakers on all Samsungs are on the bottom of the set, so unless you know how to hook it up to an external sound system, every show will sound like you're inside a tin can with the lid closed. I sent it back and got the Sony, which is a VAST improvement; the speakers are on the front of the set, where they belong. The picture is sharp, colors saturated and beautiful, it's easy to navigate. It's a great TV. Unlike the Samsung, which is incredibly shiny and reflective, the Sony even looks great in my living room. I love it!

What's better...Plasma or LCD HDTV?

Q.

A. -Panasonic's 1080p plasma TVs have a half-life of 100,000 hours (30-40 years of typical use)

- An LCD TV only has a half life of 60,000 hours (25-27 years of typical use).

-A plasma TV will lose brightness as it ages, but it retains the ability to produce accurate colors.

-An LCD TV loses brightness as it ages AND it loses color accuracy.

-A plasma TV produces the smoothest motion.

-An LCD TV blurs fast motion AND the motion compensation options cost an arm & a leg & work for crap.

-The 2008 Panasonic plasma TVs are brighter than almost every LCD TV on the market today (up to 30,000:1 native contrast ratios)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- The 2008 Panasonic plasma TVs use a new anti-reflective filter that reduces glare & reflections. These TVs have less glare & refelctions than the Samsung 71F & 65f models. In fact, they have no more glare & reflectivity than a Sony XBR4 LCD TV!!!!!!!!

Over 40", a plasma TV costs much less than a compariable LCD TV. You get more TV for the money with a plasma TV.

Plasma TVs produce the best blacks!

Plasma TVs produce the most accurate colors!

Panasonic's plasma TVs can reproduce over 68B colors. The best that a LCD TV can do is 12M colors.

Panasonic's plasma TVs phosphor as been reformulated to significantly reduce burn-in issues. I have not seen a image that can't be washed out of a 2008 Panasonic plasma TV.

LCD TVs can suffer image retention, especially when using games that use a 4:3 screen format. Images burned into an LCD screen are permanent!

An LCD screen is more susceptable to damage if hit with an object.

An LCD screen can easily be scratched.

An LCD screen can be damaged if you use a cleaning product with ammonia or alcohol.

Go see the new Panasonic plasma TVs for yourself; LCD TVs will be toast!

P.S. Sony no longer makes plasma TVs because they could not produce a reliable plasma TV. They entered the plasma TV market too late to be the market leader and, therefore, exited the market to concentrate on the emerging LCD market.

are tv warranty necessary for HDTV?
Q. is it worth buying an extended warranty for a 60 inch sony lcd hdtv

A. I will answer in the point of view of an electronics engineer:
An electronic device, just like an HDTV, is composed of thousands of electronic parts. Each part plays an important role in the over-all service life of that device.
No manufacturer can guarantee any device beyond their usual warraty. If a manufacturer gives a factory warranty of one year, that simply means they are confident that their units will most probably not fail within one year. If they give three months warranty, it simply means that they only trust the reliability of their product for only 3 months. and so on.
Any of the thousands of small electronic parts may fail anytime. When it will fail, nobody can answer.
Hence, it is still wise to purchase an extended warranty ESPECIALLY if your investment is high. Extended warraty may even give you the peace of mind in enjoying your new HDTV!

What's the smallest LCD HDTV with 1080P?

Q. Here's the deal: I do a lot of graphics work on two monitors that are side by side. One of them is a 24" CRT and the other is a 17" LCD. The LCD broke the other day so it's time to get a new one. However, I want to get an LCD HDTV instead. That way, I can chuck my ten year old TV and clear up more space in my room. Problem is that I haven't been able to find an LCD with 1080P under 32". I can probably fit anything 30" and under on my desk. This would be used as the second monitor to the CRT and as a TV/video gaming (PS3/XB360). I need that 1920x1080 resolution for my work, so please leave comments about 1080P being useless on screens smaller than 42" and etc at the front door. A 720P resolution just won't cut it. Also, I will only be a foot or two away from the screen, so I will be able to tell the difference in image. Any help? And does anyone have a 1080P TV that is below 32"?

A. There are many 19201200 WUXGA monitors in the 19- to 30-inch size rangeparticularly in the 23/24- and 26/27-inch classesthat are capable of functioning as a 1080p Full HD display. Finding full blown 1080p HDTVs in the same size range is still fairly difficult though a few new models are slowly beginning to trickle out. For what its worth many experts and enthusiasts believe the ultimate WUXGA/1080p monitor/HDTV in the 19- to 30-inch size range will utilize one of the various IPS (In-Plane Switching) LCD panel technologies, i.e., S-IPS, AS-IPS, H-IPS, etc., along with the obligatory overdrive technology to reduce panel response times. Included in the list below are several FPDs that utilize in-plane switching LCD panels.

The features that I believe are important in a high performance, fixed-pixel, HD flat panel display are: adjustable gamma control (preferably over the range of gamma values from 2.0 to 2.6,) good black level performance, rapid panel response time (16 ms or less - worst case measured response time,) good screen uniformity, 1:1 pixel mapping, native 1080p24 support, true 10-bit panel technology, accurate gray-scale and color reproduction including support for full display calibration for each input, fully HDCP compliant, HDMI/DVI AND VGA inputs (YPbPr component video inputs would also be a welcome addition,) and above all highly effective video and image processing. (In addition, with all things being equal I prefer LCD monitors or HDTVs that use RGB LED back-light units rather than the standard fluorescent lamp-based BLUs.)

With so many new high resolution, HD displays in the 19- to 30-inch size range it remains difficult to narrow-down the field of choices to a select few. Starting with the list below I recommend that you attempt to narrow the selection using your own criteria and then visit nearby dealers to thoroughly evaluate the chosen displays on your short-list.

Below is a brief list of 22- to 27-inch class WUXGA/1080p displays currently available from which one or more models should meet most of your requirements.

Should I go with 1080p vs. 720p LCD HDTV?
Q. I am purchasing a 37 in. LCD TV and the price difference between 1080p and 720p is $200.00. Is it worth it?

A. If your TV is 40inches and under, 1080p (Depending on viewing distance) will not look a lot better than 720p. Any TV bigger than 40 inches will notice an increase from 720p to 1080p. (Again depending on viewing distance)

If you have a 720p TV you may or may not be able to view a 1080p source. Not all 720p TV will accept a 1080p source, most will only accept a 1080i source. And if your TVs Native Resolution is only 720p, there is no point in running a 1080i signal, because the TV will just convert it to 720p anyways.

What HDTV or LCD tv should i get?

Q. Im not really a tec expert so idk much about tvs but 1080,720.......ect that basic stuff so im not looking for ones over 1000$ hopefully under that thanks for answering if u do

A. Keep in mind that you can not see the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen smaller than a 46". Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that there are more Panasonic Plasma tv being recommended than any type of tv by any manufacturer. In November issue of the Magazine it named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010. Last year was also a Plasma tv by Pioneer Elite KURO model. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. You can get a Panasonic Plasma tv 46" 1080 model G20 for under $1,000 or the 50" G20 for $1099 at Best Buy, this model is exclusive to Best Buy only. It is also a THX (higher video quality standard set by Lucas film industries) certified tv, the only other brand that has a certification is by LG and it is there high end model LED tv. Hope this will help you out.

Plasma, LED, or LCD???
Q. With the black friday sale around the corner, I see a lot of deals and want the best thing. I heard the Plasma TV is no good and will only last 2 years, same as LED. LCD is best to go (from the rumors I hear) , by your experiance, what is the best way to go?

A. Do not listen to rumors or from people that do not know what they are talking about. I recommended you go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. If you get a copy of the magazine, it will list tvs that they recommend and have tested. Panasonic has more plasma tv being recommended than any type of tv by any manufacturer in the market today. In November issue of the magazine it name the Panasonic plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. You will also see that plasma tv is less expensive that any tv in the market today. Most tv in the market today should last you around 60,000 to 100,000 hours of use. My first plasma tv purchased in 2002, a Pioneer model 4330 a 43" is still working today, while my first LCD tv 32" only lasted 2 years. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.
