What are the best brand to buy a big sizes of HDTV?

Q. I have a plan to buy a huge size of HDTV but until now i dont know what brand i would choose coz theres so many in the market.

A. You mean the best? What type of HDTV are you looking for? I am familiar with 3 types:

a) Plasma
b) LCD
c) Rear Projection TV

A) Plasma: I would say Pioneer. If you have money to spend then go for their Elite series. You won't be disappointed. They have a 42, 50 and 60 right now. Yes they also have the 1080p models at a higher price. These are not good for gaming thought. They are best for watching movies and tv-not for games!

B) LCD: not as bright as plasma but good TV for gaming. Speacially the one with faster response time. I would say Sharp is on the leading edge for this series. You may opt for their 92 series. Something like the LC52D92U. Then you may also get a bigger LCD from Sharp. The Sony bravia is also a good choice, I'm not familiar with this product though.

C) Rear projection-seen this one. Very cool. Not as expensive as the plasma. Clear pictures specially if you are right in front of it. Don't go at an angle though. Good for gaming. JVC has a good D-ila series. You can get up to 72 inches for these TV. 1080p series. Good for the price and picture. The only trouble is you have to change bulb every 2 to 3 yrs. The bulb would probably cost $500 Canadian dollars plus install.

Which HDTV?
Q. I'm going to buy my husband a HDTV. I want to know which brand is the best and what size would be the best?

A. If you want the best of the best, Sony XBR is for you.

The sony 40" XBR 2 are a really good value.

Will 1080p HDTVs price drop by JAN 2011?

Q. I missed out on 'BLACK FRIDAY' due to low funds and wanna know if I would get similar good deals on HDTVs by Jan of 2011? My Preference... 42"-46" 1080p 160hz to 240hz. Please honest answers only. Thanks!

A. LCD 1080P models every 6 month will drop about 5 %. as LCD TV soon will replace by LED TV.
in next 3 months , after Jan 2011 Mose of the OLD MODELS 1080P LCD TV -- very sure could be another 10 % to 16 % lower .some OLD LED models could be 5 to 8 % lower .
those local house brand ( off brand ) usually clear stock after year end, could be up to $ 200 to 300 Discount , but beware of " reliability "..
if you are looking for 120 HZ / 240 HZ 1080P consider High End products. such range LED TV may not getting good prices in next 3 months.
but very sure , you get good discount for 1080P big screen 120 / 240 HZ LCD TV after new year 01 01 2011 .

Which HDTV is Better?
Q. Sony - KDL40BX420 LCD (1080p, 60Hz) - $580
Samsung - PN43D490 Plasma (720p, 3D, 60Hz) - $540

Which of these is better. Im going to use it mostly for gaming and tv, with the occasional movie. 3D would be cool but its not that important. I will be sitting far enough away that 1080p wont really matter. I was looking at them at best buy and the plasma looked a little dark but it was pretty bright in the store. Also, if you have another TV to recommend let me know.
32" - 45"
$400 - $650 (maybe a little more depending on the tv)

A. The Song LCD. Plasma has lots of issues, like leaving a trail when something or someone moves on the Tv, which is typically called "ghosting". Also Plasma screens sometimes "burnout". Though, Plasma has a better color spectrum. But the best type is an LED.
Also, there are only so many games you can play in 3D and you have to buy glasses which I've seen for an extra $200.

Look up "squidoo best HDTVs of 2011" in google, and you'll find all the info you need.

I'm also looking at getting a new Tv, so I know a lot of good ones, but what's your exact price range. I know around $550 but is $580 the max? Also how many inches do you want? Add your price range and inch range and I'll add some recommendations.

Ok, so I'll just write the info for each tv. I would put the url since I'm still in the process of fixing my computer, so I have to use my iPod and PS3 to go on the internet.

Is there a 32" lcd hdtv that kicks 1080 pixels?

Q. or if not what is the smallest size tv with 1080p and where can I find it

A. I'm in the same boat--looking for a new LCD, and i really want 1080p. The Westinghouse LVM-37w3 is a 37" 1080p [monitor], although not a real 'HDTV', with no integrated ATSC tuner.

Sharp has a 32" out--the [LC-32GP1U]... IMO very overpriced, and probably not worth it since the resolution [1080p] isn't very recognizable on the 32" screen. CNET says so as well.

P.S. I gather you're talking about a native 1080 lines(1080p) of resolution--1080i is readily available on a 720p display.

best HDTVs for gaming?
Q. I recently tried out a 46" 120hz insignia lcd (6.5 ms) from best buy and it was complete crap, had to return it. I was told that i needed the 120hz for gaming however when I tried to play any FPS the 120hz feature just made it so "laggy" i could not even attempt to play but when i turned the 120hz off it seemed okay.
I now have a cheapo 40" rca lcd from walmart (I believe 8ms and 60hz) nothing to write home about. with both of these tvs (more so with the rca) it is making fps games really hard to play. i would not say it seems like input lag, when i click A to jump my person jumps immediately etc. The best way I can describe it is when I look Left or Right, Up or Down it feels/looks really "jerky", god forbid I am also Moving while Looking, so jerky its not even funny. Also, sometimes I swear my cursor moves on its own, like I have auto aim set to "ON" which I do not. I notice this "moving cursor" thing mainly when there is alot of stuff happening in front of me (ie" a bunch of enemies running around in front of my cursor) I feel like I would be better off just using my 15 year old 27" sharp tv even though any text on it is unreadable and blurry which makes RPG impossible to play.

So what exactly do I need to do? I thought about trying out a plasma but they seem sooo dark, the cd/m2 ratings on plasmas seem very low and every plasma at the stores seem alot darker than lcds. And its not about the money, I would be okay with splurging a little on something that was actually worth it, so far I have been trying to be cheap about it and get 700 and 500 dollar tvs, which suck apparently. My goal would be to get a 46 or 47" 1080p, but I could live with a 40 or 42" I guess. I just want something that is bright, good black levels but still able to discern detail, and good for games. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A. LG 32LH30 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
http://www.mixxedbagg.com/2010/01/22/lg-32lh30-32-inch-1080p-lcd-hdtv/

Review: LG doesnt get enough praise.
Just bought this TV for the sake of it being an IPS panel and for its apparent adjustability (and also 1080p). Plus this tv is so easy to calibrate; the picture wizard is extremely helpful.
The amount of menu options is jaw-dropping, as is the style of the set. The LH40 model looks neat with the plastic square along the bottom of the panel, but I like the more minimalist look of the LH30, and I do not like the 120hz or the $100 price jump of the LH40.
I made a comparison to my sony 32M4000 (which I have now given to my father) and there are some interesting differences (many are polar opposites):
-The sound is far superior on the LG.
-Black levels are very close, sonys is a bit deeper and maintains black colors better at angles.
-The whiteness of whites is slightly better on the sony, but colors and mid tones definitely have more of a punchy factor on the LG.
-Color is amazing; rich and saturated; best ive seen on any LCD, period.
-Color does not wash out at all from different angles, only very dark colors and black tend to become discolored (blue or red depending on the angle).
-Of course there are far, far fewer picture options on the sony.
-My sony has a ghosting problem with dark colors, not so on the LG; motion blur and lag is also reduced too.
-OTA HD channels look decent enough, not as sharp as the sony, but the better color makes up for it imo.
What was the main factor that made me get this LG?..its S-IPS panel.
Samsung is an excellent maker of lcds, but I steered clear of them this time, as buying a tv from them is like playing the lottery. They use 3 different panels with differing levels of color and contrast quality; you are not essentially getting what you pay for:
You may get Samsungs own S-PVA panel, the best quality (if youre lucky).
An A-MVA panel from Taiwans AUO (a notch worse than S-PVA).
Chinese company Chi Meis S-MVA panel (worst of the three).
Panasonics IPS Alpha panels are decent, but on some panels dark colors appear far too blue from different angles.
That narrows it down to LGs S-IPS panel; its color saturation, vividness, and response time are worth the slight sacrifice in contrast and black depth (at least in my opinion).
This tv is not perfect, however; I spotted 3 dead pixels right out of the box (2 bright, 1 dark), right around the middle of the screen. They are practically invisible without being a foot from the screen and looking hard for them, however.
Viewing angles demonstrate some darkening of the picture, but its not too bothersome (swivel stand helps).
No other flaws I can think of at the moment, I recommend this tv!
My calibration settings use color adjustments from cnet.com along with some of my own tweaks, try them out!

Which 42" HDTV should I buy?

Q. I know I want 1080P but what other specs should I be looking at? What is a good brand? I'll be using it primarily to watch blu-ray movies and play PS3. What about response time and hertz? Thanks in advance.
And what about the contrast?

A. First thing to consider is the room you are putting the TV in. If the room is very bright and/or has a lot of natural light that may reflect based on where you are planning on putting the TV, then you are probably better off with an LCD. There are not many 42" LCDs, then generally come in 40 and 46 inch, but you probably wouldn't notice the size difference between a 40 and 42 anyway, especially once you get it home.

For good LCDs, you should look at Samsung and Sony, if you are on more of a budget, Toshiba, Hitachi and LG may be good as well, but generally the prices aren't considerably lower. You can consider an LED LCD TV (these just have a backlight made from LEDs instead of the standard CCFL, which is a lot of marketing since people have heard of LEDs but not many know about CCFL). LED-backlit TVs are nice and do have a better picture than standard LCD TVs, but they do cost a good bit more. Honestly, the best way to decide which you want is to check your price range, then go to BestBuy and just look at all the TVs and decide which looks best to you, although if you want the truth, once you bring it home and it's the only TV you see, it's going to look great no matter what.

Back to the main question though, If you do have a room that is averagely lit, not super bright or anything, then a plasma TV may be a better choice. Generally, plasmas give a better picture in these situations (even though they may look a bit dull and faded in the store, that's because of the lights). I personally recommend a Panasonic Plasma. I have had one for a year and a half and it is a great TV. For the first couple weeks you have the TV, you will have to be careful of temporary "image retention" while playing games and such, but it is not as big of a deal as some people make it out to be, and unless you abuse your TV, it will go away quickly.

When it comes to Hertz, this is how many times per second the screen refreshes the image. It is generally meaningless. People will like to tell you that higher refresh rates give a smoother picture, and although there is some truth to this, the effect is just there to reduce choppyness in the image. If you do go for LCD, 120Hz TVs may be a good direction to go if you like what you see (definitely check it out in store though) but don't bother with 240Hz, it's just not worth the extra money for whatever minute improvements it may or may not make. For plasma TVs, the refresh rate will probably be listed like 600Hz or something for some TVs, again, this number is all marketing, just ignore it.

As for response time. This isn't something that's too big of an issue anymore. If the TV has a high response time though (10ms for example is pretty high) then you may see some weird effects when things on the screen start to move quickly. I recommend getting as low as possible, but unless you are buying a cheap brand, this probably won't come up. This only applies to LCDs as well. If you get a plasma, the response time is so short you will never notice it.

Contrast ratios are completely useless. A higher one is better, but since there is no 'standard' way to measure it, you can't really use it to determine much. Your best bet is to look at the TV and see how it looks to you.

Lastly, I recommend finding what you want (or something similar) in a store, then buying it online. It will save you a lot of money, although it does require waiting and may be a hassle depending on where you live, but definitely consider it.

Anyway, sorry for babbling on, but I hope you find this helpful.

SORRY, the box on back says digital but I donot believe it is an hd receiver, I got it from landlord to use with my tv, i believe i will need a new box, correct ? What about tivo box would that work instead or both, i am so new sorry f/ being ignorant with this stuff, info so far very helpful. thanks.

A. If you are only seeing analog on DirecTV it is because you need to get a DirecTV HD receiver and connect it to this TV with a HDMI cable or with a component cable set (red, green, blue RCA to RCA cables) and a audio cable set (white and red RCA cables) from the output of the DirecTV HD receiver to the corresponding HDMI input or aforementioned RCA connections which are inputs on the HDTV.

If you have the DirecTV HDTV box then you need to make the connection change noted above.

what is the best TV to buy?
Q.

A. I recommend you go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that Panasonic dominates the list of recommended tv with a Plasma tv. In 2010 they named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD/LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.

Best LCD HD over 50' and with great PIP?

Q. I am looking for the best LCD HDTV that is over 50 inches and is VERY GOOD FOR GAMING... also i would really like for this TV to be able to utilize Picture in Picture well enough that i could watch TV while using my Macbook computer at the same time (I believe its a VGA input needed)...any suggestions?

A. ive got a 50" Samsung Plasma and it looks great ^-^

and my friend has a 60" plasma and that looks great also....but i would recommend getting a TV that big for HD gaming only i.e. Xbox 360 using HD cables or PS3 using HDMI.

When using SCART with a screen that big the picture looks terrible because the resolution is strecthed to the max. I think it would do this with the Wii although i havnt tryed it, the Wii uses SCART so theres a good chance it will. I have cable TV running through my 50" and the picture looks a little grainy because it isnt in HD, but your eyes adjust to it after a while...

...im not splashing out on an extra £10 a month just for a clearer picture with cable TV in HD! ^-^

...EDIT: also the new samsung TVs have both the VGA port and Picture-in-picture feature you are looking for....i know because i use both regularly with my laptop ^-^

What is the best LCD or Plasma TV out on the market today?
Q. I've been doing some research, and it looks like Samsung's are both the best sellers and best bang for your buck. Is there a recommended model out there for a 40-50 inch? The ones I looked at are:

Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
Samsung - 42" Class 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV (Model: PN42B450)

Also, are Visio's (by LG) really that horrible? :-)

Thanks in advance!

A. In LCD, Samsung is the leader right now for sure. But there are solid sets made by Sony, Panasonic, and Sharp (the Aquos line) as well. Also, Toshiba and LG make good models from time to time. Their overall lines are not as strong, but they have some models that perform extremely well. And opposite to that some Samsung models aren't really that great at all (like the series 3 TVs). So in the end you need to do a model by model comparison to be sure.

Of the models you listed the first and 3rd ones are the good ones. For a 46" LCD you want/need the 120Hz technology. It doesn't bring it to Plasma quality, but it helps a lot. While Plasma is overall better than LCD, I wouldn't necessarily go Samsung Plasma. That's not what they are known for. I'd look at a Panasonic Viera, maybe TH-PX80 or PZ80 at 42" would suite your needs.

As for overall, Plasma vs LCD...

LCD - is the everyman HDTV. It is cost effective, hence its popularity. It is also physically lighter than Plasma. It tends to draw less power than Plasmas as well (though good Plasmas are now beating LCDs). It has a matte finish so is useful for rooms that have too much ambient light which can not be controlled. LCD whites are a bit brighter than Plasma whites (but how often do you crank your brightness to 100%). LCDs are considered better for gaming (but I don't think you'd be disappointed with gaming on a modern Plasma). LCDs are sharper in SD (think evening news instead of film); this isn't a good vs bad, its just a personal preference thing.

It has problems with fast motion though. That is why you see ones advertised with 120Hz refresh rates. This does not come close to Plasma though. So they aren't as good for fast motion (sports and movies). The new 240Hz ones with LED backlighting are making good strides, but right now you're paying a HUGE premium for those features.

Plasma - they have better blacks, contrast, and motion blur. They are better TVs, but you often do have to pay a bit of premium for them. Images look smoother. They have greater ranges in blacks/whites so you get greys instead of clumps of black and white. The colors in Plasmas tend to have more "pop" to them; this isn't a good vs bad thing, its just personal preference. Plasmas are great for fast motion (sports and action movies).

Plasma's are glass though so are glossy. They can have reflection issues if you are in a room with lots of light that you can't control (you can't turn off the lights and you don't own any blinds). Also for SD viewing they are a bit "softer" (think more like film less like the evening news). This isn't a good vs bad thing, its personal preference. Most plasma owners get used to it and don't mind it.

They do have to be conditioned. The gasses of new Plasmas need to be conditioned. All you have to do is keep the brightness/contrast cranked way down for the first 100-200 hours, then optimize, and you'll have an amazing TV experience.

Plasma myth (1) - They experience burn-in. This is BS, those days are gone. Just condition the gasses and then use it as normal and you're fine. Also, the better sets have built-in features to prevent this (on top of the technology just generally being better now than say 5 years ago).

Plasma myth (2) - They have short life spans. This is more BS. You can leave your Plasma on 24/7 for 34 years before killing it. So do you think you'll still want/own the same TV in 15 years, let alone 30?

Plasma myth (3) - They won't work in high altitude because of problems for the gasses. This is again no longer an issue. Current Plasmas can be purchased and used in mile high Denver, and above, so you'll be fine where ever you are (unless you're living in the Himalayas).

Plasma vs LCD - One important note though is TV size. In 42" and above you see and get the benefit of the Plasma advantages. But 40" and smaller and the benefits are diminishing. So if you're going way smaller than LCD is likely the better option.

Plasma brands - Pioneer Kuro Elite is the best, followed by Pioneer Kuro. But these can cost as much as a small car. Panasonic Viera is the next best and is much more cost effective. Then I would go with Samsung. The Panasonic TH-50PZ800 or Samsung PN50A650 would both be top notch choices.

LCD brands - I would stick with Samsung, Sharp Aquos, and Sony (but only Sony if its on sale, otherwise it tends to be overpriced). Sony stopped manufacturing LCD panels, they now buy/use the same ones used in the Sharp Aquos sets. Samsung is a step above the rest if you go with the 5, 6, 7, or 9 series models.

Sanyo 55 inch LCD HDTV picture quality problem?

Q. I bought the sanyo 55 inch tv from walmart (model number DP55360). I saw this tv in store and thought it had an amazing clear picture and was a great buy. However when I set it up the picture is very poor quality. It seems very dark and blurry. Is there any way I can fix this without returning it? I've already turned the brightness all the way up and tried a thx optimizer from one of my movies but neither work. Please help!!!

A. Firstly, Sanyo does not make quality TV's.

Secondly, raising the brightness actually makes the display worse on an LCD TV.

I have no idea what's wrong, but I'd advise taking it back and returning it for another brand. I'd advise Samsung or Sharp as quality sets.

Best 40 inch lcd hdtv for under $600?

Q. I dont know a lot about tv's but I am wondering what would be the best lcd hdtv for around $600. I am definitely concerned with image quality and sound clarity, but my main concern is the video lag. my 52 inch tv in my den has a lag when scrolling with IO digital cable. from what i understand, some tv's have that problem and some dont (not sure the cause myself). anyway my main question is what is my best bet for a lcd hdtv for around $600. i am an avid video game player and movie watcher so a reliable and clear tv is what i am looking for. eventually i plan on getting a blu ray player as well.

A. sharp,philips,and lg are cheap reliable tvs...they are around 40inch or 42inch..best buy/brandmarts

pannosic is good 649.00 at best buy 42 inch

best tv is sony bravia but sony is out of your league(price)

can only afford $500-$600 for a 32" hdtv lcd w/tuner?
Q. which 32" hdtv lcd would be the best quality for that price? also what extras are needed? was told to get a home theater surge protector, sound system and up progression dvd player. anything else?
thanks in advance for the advice!

A. I recently purchased a 32" Oelvia LCD HDTV from Bj wholesale club on sale for under $500. It has a input to make it a computer monitor as well. A surge protector would be a good investment.

Do I need to buy HDMI cables if I buy a LCD HDTV?

Q. I am planning on getting a Samsung 40" 1080p, the model is LN40B640. But I am wondering if I need HDMI cables. They are very expensive, well the Monster brand which start at over $60. I am not familiar with HDMI, or HD electronics in general. I only plan on connecting a Xbox 360 to the tv, and a Blu Ray player eventually. No home theater system. Any help with what HDMI is for and which are good for the money will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

A. Okay here comes your perfect answer. So you know i am very knowledgeable about everything there is to know about LCD, Plasma, PS3, Xbox, Bluray, surround sound ect. so take what im telling you as fact. I have literaly set up DOZENS of surround sound lcd bluray ps3 xbox sytems in peoples houses and know how they work from top to bottom.

Answer: not necissarily.

HDMI cables are designed to handle all current forms of HD signal including 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. But they also handle "HD Audio" or true surround sound signal which includes DTS, Dolby prologic, Dolby Digital 5.1 and 7.1 audio. The nice thing about HDMI is its all in one cable.

Your xbox (tho i am not conclusively sure about the elite) comes with cables to send video and audio signal to your TV. You have your STANDARD DEFINITION CALBES witch is the yellow (video in 480i) cable, aswell as a red and white which designate left and right channel stereo only audio. this is not HD. But they also, on the same wire, come with "COMPONENT VIDEO" THIS IS THE SAME EXACT THING AS AN HDMI CABLE BUT IN THREE WIRES!. Component has a green, blue, and red cable splitting a video signal into 3 specific forms, which are then combined in the tv as HD signal. these cables will handle 1080p.

If you use component you will still have to use the red and the white for your audio. you will NOT use the yellow anymore.

The difference between component and HDMI is wire control (less wires) if you get into deep specifics HDMI can also be used for one device to control another. But in your case its not, nor would you have a need to do so. Also as i said HDMI carries HD audio, the white and red sterio wires do not, but that does not matter in your case for you do not have a surround sound speaker system able to decode and designate speaker channels for surround sound audio.

Advice: You could use either, i use HDMI
Go to newegg.com and buy your HDMI cable from there for $10 or less
Never buy a cable less than 6' (foot) long for you WILL NOT have enough. trust me
You should be able to find the cable you need for about $6
After you hook every thing up and see a picture on the TV you are STILL NOT GETTING HD PICTURE
You have to tell your xbox to send 1080p to your television only!!!!!
Go to system settings in your xbox, then video settings and set the resolution to 1080p
to make sure that is is working correctly, press display, or info on your TV'S! remote, and it will tell you what signal is being supplied to the TV (720p, 1080i 0r 1080p)
you also have to tell the xbox what cables you wish to run signal through, but you should come to that step anyways while in video settings.
ALSO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, I BELIEVE XBOX REQUIRES A SPECIAL CABLE DESIGNED FOR THE THE XBOX ONLY THAT HAS HDMI ON ONE END (FOR THE TV) AND THE XBOX HOOKUP AT THE OTHER TO HOOK TO YOUR XBOX. THERE IS ALSO A SWITCH ON THE XBOX CABLE ITSELF THAT SAYS HDTV WHICH NEEDS TO BE SWITCHED ON IF USING 'COMPONENT HOOKUP RED, GREEN, BLUE CABLES) for HD picture

I have xbox ps3, HD DVD, 42" flat LCD, 1,800 watt surround sound 7.1 with three subwoofers and 5 extra speakers wired into it. It all runs perfectly and amazingly, and shakes the earth. I use component for my xbox, and HDMI for my ps3 which has a blu-ray built in. Best advice, get a ps3, so much better that xbox, and you cant beet the price now adays.

SUPER TIP!!!!! : go to half.com for all bluray movies, games, and even consoles (game systems) FRACTION OF THE PRICE! NEW!!!! or slightly used (all used games ive gotten are in FLAWLESS CONDITION! and i have 20 all from that site)

most of the answers here are partially right, or wrong. i promise you, this is totally correct. Best Buy guys call me when they have a problem. GOOD LUCK friend, you will love it. Enjoy, and have a friend with you in you are unsure on how to do everything, refer to this as a guide.

Best,
Riddick-

Which LCD HDTV should I buy?
Q. I'm trying to decide between this HDTV

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Element-26-LCD-HDTV-FLX-2610/sem/rpsm/oid/175548/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do#tabs

and....

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11220721&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US

which do you think is a better buy?

A. I'd go with the ViewSonic at Costco, but only because of Costco's service and extended warranty. They are both "third tier" (bottom of the barrel) LCDs.
While it's tough on the budget, try to stick with a reliable, quality name brand like Panasonic, Toshiba, or Hitachi. While Sony is the top name in LCD, it's out of your price range, I'd guess. Generally, you'll find the best prices by a few dollars on the Toshiba. However, look at the Panasonic TC-26LX70 LCD HDTV now on sale at Circuit City for $749. Quality set at a good price. Stay away from all "no names" like Element, Ilo, Polaroid, Maxent, Vizio. and Olevia, as well as Philips/Magnavox and you will be happier!

is the ps3 be worth buying for a LCD HDTV?

Q. does it it look better on a hdtv or any kind of t.v?

A. The PS3 definitely looks better on an HDTV. Period. I originally had it hooked up to a standard tv, and at first thought that the PS3 was nothing special. After buying my plasma, I can see the difference is amazing.

Now, if you're asking if buying the PS3 is worth it, that's another question. It all depends on what it is that you want and expect from it. If you play a lot of games, then yes, get the PS3. If you want to play Blu-Ray DVDs, then yes, get the PS3, as I've read that most Blu-Ray DVD players are, by itself, about a $1000. But if you're just expecting to be "wowed" by the graphics or are just a casual gamer, I would tell you to pass on the PS3 and look for something less than the $600 price tag. The graphics are good, but for people who don't spend a large amount of time playing video games, a wait for a price drop is a good idea.

is an lcd hdtv really worth buying?
Q. i am planning on buying an hdtv for my family but we already have a tv. a regular basic tv. we have a ps3, wii, and we have hd channels. out of all honesty is buying a hdtv really worth spending money on it even though i have a tv that is working just fine? is spending a few hundred dollars really worth better picture?

A. Honestly, I bought an HD TV a couple years ago when they were like four or five times more expensive and the technology was weaker than it is now. I was also skeptical about it, but to be perfectly honest, after having watched HD television for all this time, I simply cannot go back to regular TV.

The hi def channels are so pleasing to the eye that it makes a world of a difference. Watching sporting events like football is fantasticI literally can't watch sporting events on regular TV anymore. I'm not a big gamer anymore, but I'm sure that it'll make the gaming experience that much better.

I was looking at the current prices of HD LCD TVs recently and they have come down so much that I would certainly go with an HD TV. It really makes a huge difference so long as you have HD channels coming in or HD/Blue Ray DVDs that you're using.

Right now, literally, the HD TV I purchased in 2006 for over $2,500 presently costs $829 and is of better quality with the technical improvements.

Name Brand HDTV for under $1000?

Q. I'm looking to buy an HDTV by a name brand (Sony, LG, Panasonic, Samsung) around 50-55" for under a grand. Can anybody tell me who makes the best budget TV's?
so i'm leaning toward a panasonic and i found these two deals i'm considering.

1) Panasonic - VIERA / 50" Class / 1080p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV
Model: TC-P50G20
about $1200 from bestbuy

2)Panasonic Viera 54" Widescreen 1080p Plasma HDTV - 2,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
Model: TC-P54S2
about $970 from buy.com

it appears that the only major pluses with #2 are the size and price. it's lacking in many of the extra features (internet capability, USB ports, higher contrast ratio, etc.)
do you think it makes more sense to spend an extra 240 bucks for the better quality tv that's a couple inches smaller?

A. You'll have a better chance of maintaining that price with plasma than with LCD/LED. Here are the top rated 50 inch plasma sets from Consumer Reports, in order:

1. LG Infinia 50PK750 suggested price $1050
2. Samsung PN50C6500 $1200
3. LG 50PK540 $780
4. Panasonic Viera TC-50U2 $800

Here are the rankings among LCD/LED sets, and I've eliminated those that are way beyond $1000:

6. Sanyo DP52440 $1000
7. Samsung LN52C530 $1170
9. Hitachi Ultravision L555604 $1100

Note that the above LCDs are in the "budget" category, as they have the fluorescent backlight system, not LEDs.
----------------
Per your Additional Details: as for your two cited choices, you'll have to decide whether those special functions are worth the added cost. How important is that to you?

Another observation: Buy.com is an on-line seller, right? To each their own, but my choice is to only buy a TV from a local walk-in store, so that I can easily and promptly take it back for a refund when I open the box and the TV is unsatisfactory for some reason. (It's happened.) That also avoids shipping damage. On-line sellers, especially Amazon, are ordinarily good about taking care of such problems, but it involves time, bother, reshipping hassle, and maybe expense.

55 inch LCD HDTV 1080p for 400, too low or too high?
Q. I am selling my beautiful LCD HDTV 1080p for 400 ( I bought it for 850), is this too high or too low? Im thinking I should have listed it for 500 or above. Thanks

A. Too low, 55" is big, and it's worth about 500, but TV's are hard to sell as they can be bought so cheaply online now.

What is the best LCD television for gaming, and under $300?

Q. preferably 26 to 32 inches

A. Hi Nate P,
Toshiba 26C100U 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Black Gloss) is really good.
Photo Frame capability allows this HDTV to act as both a TV and a digita
l photo frame. You can showcase your favorite memories as a clear, crisp slide
show on the high-resolution television screen--all controlled with just the TV remote.
Gaming Mode takes the gaming experience to a new level by reducing game
control delay, thus giving the player improved reaction time and a more realistic
playing experience. This is great when used with popular gaming consoles,
or with PC games using the TVs PC Input. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038JEDAI?ie=UTF8&tag=digitsy-post3-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0038JEDAI

Projector or LCD HDTV? for games, monitor, television UNDER:$400?
Q. I am wondering if i should get a LCD HDTV or a Projector non HD since there too expensive.
BUDGET:under $400

I would get the LCD off of Craigslist, amazon,or a local chainstore. Most likely off of amazon or craigslist

And the Projector off Craigslist or Ebay.

I would be useing One of the 2 depending on what i get for Computer games and Internet,Xbox 360,and as a TV that I would use often everyday. Lets say 12 hours a day to be on the safe side. I think the only things that i would use the HD for is My XBOX 360 or PS3 and Maybe my computer if i get a new VIDEO CARD

I would like to know the PROS VS CONS on haveing a LCD HDTV VS a REGULER PROJECTOR (no HD). Assume i would be getting both of them used.

What should i loook for in a used projector? are they are to repair the projector? Should i get some paint or a screen. I heard there is paint that i could paint on the wall that is better then a screen?

A. get a 32 inch samsung LCD or Panasonic LCD both 1080p you wont be dissapointed but idk i tried my ps3 on my friends Sony Bravia 1080p 32 inch and only 300 bucks in best buy and it looked amazing

46 in LCD HDTV or a 50 in Plasma HDTV. Same price. Which is a better choice?

Q. Viewing distance is about 10 feet max.

A. Even though Plasma HDTVs have a great picture at first, after a while the picture starts to dim and they have to be "re-gassed" by a qualified technician which costs around $350 and up according to brand/size. (That is why the "service contract" is so expensive for them). If and when I purchase another HDTV, it will be an LCD.

is a vizio lcd tv better than a sanyo?
Q. I was thinking of getting a new tv to play my PS3 and obviously watch tv. Bet i was wondering what would be a better brand of tv to buy.
A Sanyo 50" 720p 60Hz Plasma HDTV -OR- a Vizio 42" 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV.

here are the links (yes im planning to buy them from walmart :D)

Sanyo: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10929993
Vizio: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10993796

A. 1 ) Plasma vs LCD.
Plasma excellent for color reproduction .deep true black and dark color .almost 0 response time , 600 HZ refresh rate with out any motion blur ,well-suited for moving movies .especially sports programs / games. Plasma only available in 42 inc and above big screen , and compare to same screen size Hi End LCD TV, Plasma TV much lower in prices. those SMART consumer's " return to Plasma for prefect pictures quality and paid less in prices. because New Plasma technologies make great difference . life time 60,000 hours same as LCD display. easy " burn in " in not an issue any more. all new Plasma is energy star qualified.
http://www.smarthouse.com.au/TVs_And_Large_Display/Plasma/W3U2A3U7
2 ) LCD TV, due to response time , there must be " motion blur ".high refresh rate-120 HZ even 240 HZ able to " hide away " the motion blur, it not totally cut it off, just make more comfortable to human eye. non of any LCD display provide deep / true dark and black color. an Hi End LCD TV cost more than Plasma TV, but unable to provide same pictures quality.even just standard HD 720P Plasma TV able to display prefect quality than fell HD 1080 P LCD TV.
Vizio vs Sanyo .
Vizio is USA local trademark , products only for USA / CANADA market .
Vizio USA is not an manufactures , is TRADING COMPANY. all TV is supply by Taiwan Amtrans , and designs also made in China by other TV maker., Vizio is no 1 quantity sold TV brand for the pass 4 years, because of PRICES also some people " THINK " Vizio is " made in USA ". or " designs in USA " even Vizio is by Sony or LG ... read the link below !
http://www.forbes.com/2009/05/21/taiwan-vizio-amtran-exports-lcd-tv.html?feed=rss_business
Vizio is BEST for BUDGET, subject to quality.
Sanyo .
Sanyo don't make quality TV ! Sanyo Products just okay , not great . compare to other Japan manufactures , Sanyo TV is " low class ".

is the ps3 be worth buying for a LCD HDTV?

Q. does it it look better on a hdtv or any kind of t.v?

What HDTV or LCD tv should i get?

Q. Im not really a tec expert so idk much about tvs but 1080,720.......ect that basic stuff so im not looking for ones over 1000$ hopefully under that thanks for answering if u do

A. Keep in mind that you can not see the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen smaller than a 46". Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that there are more Panasonic Plasma tv being recommended than any type of tv by any manufacturer. In November issue of the Magazine it named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010. Last year was also a Plasma tv by Pioneer Elite KURO model. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. You can get a Panasonic Plasma tv 46" 1080 model G20 for under $1,000 or the 50" G20 for $1099 at Best Buy, this model is exclusive to Best Buy only. It is also a THX (higher video quality standard set by Lucas film industries) certified tv, the only other brand that has a certification is by LG and it is there high end model LED tv. Hope this will help you out.

Plasma, LED, or LCD???
Q. With the black friday sale around the corner, I see a lot of deals and want the best thing. I heard the Plasma TV is no good and will only last 2 years, same as LED. LCD is best to go (from the rumors I hear) , by your experiance, what is the best way to go?

A. Do not listen to rumors or from people that do not know what they are talking about. I recommended you go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. If you get a copy of the magazine, it will list tvs that they recommend and have tested. Panasonic has more plasma tv being recommended than any type of tv by any manufacturer in the market today. In November issue of the magazine it name the Panasonic plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. You will also see that plasma tv is less expensive that any tv in the market today. Most tv in the market today should last you around 60,000 to 100,000 hours of use. My first plasma tv purchased in 2002, a Pioneer model 4330 a 43" is still working today, while my first LCD tv 32" only lasted 2 years. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.

I currently have a sh1tty standard definition television, and I am looking into a 26-inch Vizio Razor-LED backlit LCD HDTV

A. This was the same scenario with me before a month and I searched a lot to get the best and finally I got this and I am really happy with this product

LCD HDTV Widescreen on XBOX 360?
Q. So, I am using a regular 4 by 3, 32 inch TV. I will usually use this to play my XBOX 360, and when I do on some certain games it will go into widescreen so that there are the two black bars on the top and bottom. I am about to use a new 16 by 9, 32 inch LCD HDTV and I will hook it up to my XBOX 360. Will this new TV make the bars on the top and bottom go away because the TV is a widescreen itself?
Please Help... Thanks...

A. If you set your Xbox 360 to display 16:9 aspect and also make the TV display the fullscreen (you can usually rotate from 4:3/Zoom/Wide etc. etc.) then you'll get the full picture.

What do I need to connect my laptop and desktop to my lcd hdtv?

Q. What do I need to buy? what are the connections called that my tv needs to do this? Is there any way I can do this wireless?

A. LCD HDTVs usually have HDMI ports. If your computer has an HDMI output, all you need is a standard HDMI cable to connect the two. HDMI is also compatible with DVI, so if your computer has a DVI output you can use a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect to your LCD HDTV.

If your computer only has an old VGA port, hopefully your LCD HDTV has a VGA port too. If it does, you use a standard VGA monitor cable.

And no, there is no practical way to wirelessly transmit video from your computer to an HDTV, unless you are willing to pony up $800 for a WHDMI extender: http://reviews.cnet.com/audio-video-distribution/gefen-ext-whdmi-wireless/4505-14101_7-32365996.html

what is 240hz lcd hdtv?
Q. My new 240 lcd hdtv has it and I notice that my cable box connection is 60hz with 1080i resolution. Is this a related/requirement issue? Is the cable box limited to 60hz or? can my new HDTV EVER be capable of using the 240 (or other newer HDTV with 120hz).Is this just a marketing scheme if most cable connections can't go beyond 60? Some satellite companies I hear may be capable. Please help me understand this issue and what if anything I am loosing if anything? Tks

A. 120Hz and 240Hz are the new buzzwords in LCD TV technology. We are often asked exactly what this means and what effect it has on you, the viewer. Let's get a few technical terms out of the way first to make this easier to understand.

Hertz (Hz) Hertz is a a unit of frequency equal to one cycle per second. If you were to think of the Hertz rate of turning a light switch on and off, 1Hz would be turning the light on and off, 1 time in 1 second.

Refresh Rate In televisions and monitors, refresh rate is the number of times the screen is redrawn in one second. It is expressed in hertz (Hz). A TV with a refresh rate of 60Hz redraws the screen 60 times per second.

Frame Rate Moving pictures are actually a series of still images that are displayed quickly in succesion to give the appearance of motion. Frame rate is the number of still images displayed in one second, it is often expressed as frames per second (fps). Video in the NTSC format is displayed at 29.97 frames per second (25 fps for PAL and SECAM) and film is shot at 24 frames per second.

3:2 pulldown Above we can see that video on your television is displayed at 29.97 frames per second and movies are shot on film at 24 frames per second. This creates a problem if you want to view something shot on film on a television. There are nearly 5 frames missing from the conversion. To solve this problem a process called 3:2 pulldown is used to convert the film into something you can watch on your TV. This is done by adding extra frames to the film to fill in the extra space. For example, if we have 4 frames of video denoted as ABCD it would be converted to video by adding an extra frame to the 4 film frames (ABBCD). This results in what is known as "judder".

Judder A visual artifact that results when converting film content to video. It is most often seen as what appears to be jerky camera movement where there should be smooth panning.
24p 24p is simply video content running at 24 frame per second, just like film.
120Hz/240Hz LCD TVs Displaying Film Content

A little math and the above explanations show the advantages of displaying film content on a screen with a 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rate. Most LCD TVs have a refresh rate of 60Hz. 24 does not go into 60 without a remainder so 3:2 pulldown and it's resulting judder is required to display film content on a TV redrawing the screen 60 times a second. On the other hand, 24 goes into 120 or 240 evenly so film can be displayed at it's native frame rate eliminating judder.

Most Blu Ray players can output content at 24p so with this and a 120Hz/240Hz LCD TV you will be seeing an accurate number of frames when watching film content.

Videophiles I need HDTV help... I am in the market for a budget HDTV should I go with Olevia or Vizio?

Q. I am buying a family member his first flat panel 1080p HDTV and I would like to stay between $800 and $1500 and get a 40"-47" LCD. After searching and searching, reading reviews and searching I have came down to the following two TVs.
1) the ultra-affordable Syntax Olevia 42 in. LCD Full HD (1080p) Television model # 242FHDTV for only $899
or
2) the larger 47" Vizio LCD Full HD (1080p) Gallevia HDTV model # GV47LFHDTV10A for $1499
They are both the best priced 1080p HDTVs on the market but I need help on which one I should go with.
His viewing distance will be between 8 and a around 11 feet. I have not found much in the way of reviews on either TV so I need some help. I love the price on the 42", but I much prefer the size on the 47" so it comes down to which one is the better TV and why?
Thanks Alot!

A. Skip the LCD and buy a 50" 720p Plasma TV. It will produce a much superior image to any of the LCD's you are considering. In general, Plasma TV's will produce better pictures than most all LCD's 1080 or 720.

The most important aspect of a TV's image quality is contrast ratio. In this category, LCD's are awful, especially the no-name brands you are considering.

You can easily pick up a 50" Panasonic 720p set for $1300 - $1400 or so, occasionally even less.

There is no point in spec'ing 1080p, there is no broadcast content and there will not be as it is incompatible with US TV standards. Unless your gift recipient will sit less than 4 ft from the screen, they will never be able to see the difference between 720p and 1080p display even from a BluRay disc.

A very good reference for you to review would be the November Consumer Reports magazine. A well done assessment of the pro's and cons of LCD and Plasma TV's in this issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good device for good price, April 3, 2009

I just received this television. My first impression is great. I've been investigating diffrent brands and different models of LCD TV's for a while. Here is the conclusion I reached and the reasons for purchasing this TV:

* Sony has great models for over $2500. They have great picture but not great enough to compensate for the couple of thousand extra dollars paid. I saw 46XBR6 and 46V5100 next to each other in BB and did not see a significant difference except the price.
* Samsungs have great LCD TVs. But glossy screen would not work for me at all. I have a bright living room where my TV is located. So, if you will have your TV in a bright room, you probably would like to avoid glossy screens like Samsung has. It really reflects a lot almost like a mirror. This was a big deal for me.

Now, my experice with KDL46V5100 is as follows:
It has great picture quality. I did not expect it to be so good at even SD. It is very easy to use. We plugged the TV and started to use it right away. Even user's manual is just a few pages. Before buying the TV I paid extra attention to the wide angle performance. This TV has about the same view from front and from sides: no changes in color or image quality with angle that I recognized.

I am extremely satisfied with the Amazon delivery. They brought the TV, unpacked it and installed the TV on the stand.

Good TV for good price and good service from Amazon...

I recently purchased the Sony Bravia 46V5100, and wow is all i can say. This is my first HD anything purchase, although i did a ton of research for over a year, im glad i chose this Sony. I also promptly purchased the playstation 3 for the games and blu-ray, along with the HD package from the cable company, and it blows me away. The picture never blurs or anything like that, im a huge NASCAR fan and there is no blurring, no skipping and you never miss a bit of the action, and of course its the fastest sport on TV. With all the HDMI inputs, i dont know what else i can put in there to make it better, theres more than enough room for all the accessories. The screen is what made the difference for me between this Sony and the Samsung of the equivilant. The screen is not as glossy as the samsung, although the bezel is as shiny as the rest, you hardly notice it. The white glove delivery was great, i was notified of every step of the journey for my TV, the delivery guys unloaded it, ops checked it and explained some of the features. The only problem was a "feature" that came with the TV that darkens the screen during dark scenes on a movie or TV show, this problem has been fixed by a software update, found on the Sony support web site. its a very easy fix, just requiring an USB memory stick, or if you dont have one the Sony people will send you one. The update just takes minutes and makes a world of difference. I was a bit nervous about buying a TV online, but i went and checked it out at best buy, and it was about $400 less at amazon than at best buy, so my decision was made for me. Over all its a great tv, and a great price for the size of the TV. Thanks

I researched 46 inch lcd tv's for months, and every site recommended the Samsung 550, so I bought it. I'm not a techie, so I'll just say this: the speakers on all Samsungs are on the bottom of the set, so unless you know how to hook it up to an external sound system, every show will sound like you're inside a tin can with the lid closed. I sent it back and got the Sony, which is a VAST improvement; the speakers are on the front of the set, where they belong. The picture is sharp, colors saturated and beautiful, it's easy to navigate. It's a great TV. Unlike the Samsung, which is incredibly shiny and reflective, the Sony even looks great in my living room. I love it!

Where can I get the best deal for Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV?
Q. Where can I find a really good deal online for Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

A. The Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p HDTV is the most amazing TV I have ever seen. I love it. But, a lot of people buying them are making a terrible mistake and paying way too much for them. I found the best price using some software a friend told me about. The software is called MyShoppingGenie. Its found at www.AmazingShoppingFun.com and is the most wonderful tool you have ever seen for saving money. The way it works is you enter whatever it is that you are searching for in Google and click search. The Genie comes up at the bottom of the page and takes you immediately to the lowest price for whatever it is that you are going to buy anyway. The Genie is amazing. I found a price hundreds less than Best Buy in seconds. And, best of all the Genie is FREE!!!!!! It's FREE to download and FREE to use! Go ahead, try it out. You have nothing to loose and it might save you a lot of money. I found the best price for my Samsung LN46A650 46 inch 1080p HDTV using the Genie. You probably will too.

LCD OR PLASMA SCREEN?

Q. Ok so I have no clue about tvs so i was wondering what was better. I am thinking about getting an 27" or 26" or an 32" please help me make my decision if you wanna give me tv ideas i would like it to be a little less then 400 dollars Thanks

A. At this size your only choice is the LCD tv. Go to Best Buy and get a Panasonic 32" LCD for $399. This is the Best 32" I have found after reading the customers review of all brands like Samsung, Sony and Toshiba. I actually purchased the 37", instead of the 32" due to Best Buy had sold out of the advertised unit. But I was at Best Buy on Wednesday and noticed that they had them on sale again for the price I mentioned. Hope this will help you out.

I want to buy a Sharp 32" Aquos LCD TV. Which of these models is the correct one?
Q. I want to buy a Sharp 32" Aquos LCD TV. Which of these models is the correct one?

http://www.sharpusa.com/products/TypeLanding/0,1056,s67-1-32,00.html

A. Sharp Aquos LC-32D5U

Reviews say the 32-inch Sharp Aquos is a better choice for movies, since black levels are darker, and there are more color adjustments. Because the Sharp includes both analog and digital tuners, you can watch over-the-air HDTV (with an optional antenna). With 1366 x 768 pixels, the Sharp has lower resolution than larger LCD TVs, but it still has better resolution than most plasma TVs.

A. Panasonic VIERA C12 Series TC-L32C12 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV is one of the best TVs under $500 you can find on the market. I did a LOT of research looking for what I wanted in a TV. I've been wanting a nice flatscreen for a while now. I've been holding out as and quality has been improving while prices have been dropping. I finally settled on this Panasonic.

I wanted a TV for primarily movies (Hi Def and standard or upconverted Def) and video games (Hi Def and standard def). I do not have a cable subscription and am not interested in HD cable services. That being said, I also wanted a TV that would double as a humongous PC monitor. I'm pleased to say this TV meets and exceeds my needs so far. It's a big upgrade from the 20 inch tube TV I was using before the VIERA.

The LCD TV is nice looking and has a variety of cable inputs. Both the remote and menu systems are top-notch and useful. This TV puts out true 720p resolution and has 4:3 ratio (standard, full-frame) and zoom scaling as well. For TVs 32 inches and under, 1080p (while nice) is not necessary, as you'd be hard pressed to notice a dramatic difference with your HDMI or component sources. The picture is super sharp, and the image control available with this TV is pretty impressive. You can really play with the picture and color. I was laughing at the ability to essentially reproduce that 60's Technicolor supersaturation if you want. It really brings films to life. You can make up to 4 preset color choices, too- One for films, one for sports or live action TV, one for video games, one for kid's cartoons, etc, etc.
I would highly recommend this TV.
