Is VIZIO a good brand of LCD HDTV?

Q. I have $1500 budget to buy an HDTV, I prefer LCD 1020. I cannot decide which brand to choose.. SONY VIZIO or SAMSUNG?? Psl help me decide. Im looking for 40 in size.

A. Vizio is a third-tier brand. Parts are shipped from China made by other companies and they are assembled in LA and sold as 'house brands' in discount stores.

There is no repair service, quality on same model units varies a lot, etc.

The low prices ARE attractive but if it breaks - plan on tossing it and buying another.

Just below your post is another user who suddenly has lost video after leaving her Vizio on for 8 hours by accident.

While I am not a fan of service contracts - it might be a wise invesment for Vizio, Lutron, Dynex, Westinghouse, Robi, etc. brands.

what brand of lcd hdtv has the best repair history?
Q. I'm looking to buy a 52 inch LCD TV. What brand is most reliable? Also, what accessories do I need? Some people recommend the UPS instead of the expensive power surge protector.

A. Don't go by a single brand for your decision. You should look at specific models. Every brand makes stronger and weaker models. You want to get a good middle to high end model to best ensure you're getting the best parts.

All of the big name brands are going to be fairly comparable though reliability wise. Look to Panasonic (if you consider Plasma), Samsung, Sony, and LG. I think a set from any of those will serve you well from day of purchase until you're ready to buy again.

You likely want an HDMI cable, or two. Stick with no-name, generic brands. There are loads of consumer reports that have show the generic brands provide 100% equal quality as the big name, expensive options. Look to computer stores or online at like amazon.com, monoprice.com, bluejeanscable.com, etc. for good cheap cables. There's no need to spend more than $15 on a cable unless you're buying something of extreme length.

A UPS is handy to have sure, but we're not talking about needing to save documents here. UPS is good for a computer so the machine doesn't just turn off in a power outage. On your TV you just want to be worried about surge, so a good protector there is good enough really. Unless maybe the electricity in your area is really bad, in which case a UPS that also conditions the electricity might well be worth the investment.

Will I see motion blur in games w/ a LCD HDTV which claims 120Hz?

Q. I like watching movies and playing PS3 games. I'm considering the new Samsung LED based LCD TV which claims a 120 Hz refresh rate.

A. Motion blur is produced by LCD TVs because of the way they operate.

A LCD TV uses a technique called "Sample & Hold". The video stream is sampled, the image is updated on the screen and then held until the next image is sampled & updated. This "Sample & Hold process" occurs at the refresh rate (50 or 60 times per second (Hz) for the typical LCD TV, 100 or 120 Hz for higher end LCD TVs).

Motion blur occurs because our brains get confused. We see a still image during the "Hold" period and then the image shifts on the next update. Motion blur is created in our brains. You can not capture motion blur on an LCD TV screen with a camera because the blur is not actually on the screen, it's in our brains.

Because motion blur is created in the brain, motion blur varies by the individual's sensitivity to motion blur. Some people see more blur than others.

To remove motion blur from an LCD TV requires that the "Hold" period be reduced below our brain's threshold for the detection of blur. This generally requires a LCD TV to use at least a 240 Hz refresh rate. An LED back lit LCD TV operating at 120 Hz will not remove motion blur from the minds of most people. It will do a good job of removing motion jitter.

Additional Details: C is well meaning but obviously misguided when it comes to LCD motion blur. A LCD TV can NOT eliminate motion blur with fast response time LCDs only. You must eliminate "Sample & Hold" techniques or decrease the "Hold" time.

Plasma TVs do not produce motion blur the way that a LCD TV produces blur because they flash an image and allow the screen to decay to black. Because our brains do not see a fixed image but flashed images, we do not induce blur into the image. Instead, Plasma TVs produce what is called phosphor blur. The green phosphors fade slower than the blue or red phosphors so some people are able to see the green phosphor blur on moving objects on a plasma display panel.

Tv Deals on black friday 2011?

Q. I want a tv that fits these specs
$250-325
42"
LCD
1080p
sound can be absolute trash
60f refresh rate (preferably 120)
good contrast ratio

I find this pretty standard but the most important is: $250-350; 42"; 1080p

A. All I know is that Walmart is going to have a 40" Emerson 1080P HDTV for $248 on black Friday. It has a 60Hz refresh rate. As far as 120Hz vs 60Hz goes you probably won't notice unless watching movies or sports. And if you're watching movies you either may or may not like it. It makes movies look more like home videos rather than movies. If you like to play video games you want 60Hz because there is more lag with 120Hz.

I just found out Best Buy is going to have an LG 42 inch HDTV for $250 on Black Friday. It will be a killer deal.

What are some WiFi built in tv these days? 2011 2010 models?
Q. main goal is to watch NetFlix & hate to run a cable to the TV.

thanks guys !

A. I don't know that there are any wi-fi TVs available for less than 5 grand right now, but you could get an internet connectable Samsung HDTV then get the wi-fi adaptor.

Internet connectable Samsung tvs...
(adaptor only works with Samsung 630 series LCD HDTVs, 650 series plasma HDTVs, 6000 series LED HDTVs and higher)

Plasma, LCD or LED LCD?

Q. Which is better technology?

A. There isn't really a better technology...just different kinds capable of doing different things!

Plasma TV's have the highest native contrast ratios(40,000:1) giving them blacker blacks and more vivid & rich looking colors! They also have the fastest response times(.001ms) and fastest refresh rates(600hz), making them the best at motion sharpness and smoothness with fast motion content like sports, movies & gaming! Also...Plasma's are the most affordable type of HDTV per size!

LED LCD's have equal contrast ratios compared to Plasma's but have much slower response times(2ms) and slower refresh rates(240hz)! Their one major advantage over other HDTV's is their energy consumption(40% less in most cases)!

Standard LCD's have much lower contrast ratios and roughly the same response times and refresh rates as LED LCD's! These are the TV's that most people complain about with motion blurring and juddering with fast motion content!

Dollar for dollar...Plasma is the clear winner! See the link below for more info and facts!

Which HDTV is better for gaming, Plasma or LED LCD? (Best Picture)?
Q. Samsung 55" 8 series LED LCD TV is by far the best picture I have witnessed myself. However, I keep reading reviews that plasmas offer better pictures for movies. Can someone that has actually personally seen these TV's tell me which one has the better overall picture quality?

A. It's all about numbers!

LED LCD's and Plasma's have the highest contrast ratios resulting in the blackest blacks, whitest whites and the most vivid and rich looking colors! But that's were their similarities end!

Plasma's also have the fastest pixel response times(.001ms) as well as the fastest refresh rates(600hz), making them perfect for fast motion content like sports, movies and gaming! LED LCD's are still limited by LCD's inherent technology flaw...slower response times(2ms) and refresh rates(240hz)! This doesn't mean they're terrible at fast motion content, it just means Plasma's are better at reproducing it then LED LCD's! Plasma's have smoother picture motion!

Another difference between the two is energy consumption. LED LCD's use about 40% less energy then Standard LCD's and Plasma's! Which is good if you're into the whole eco-friendly thing! Keep in mind however, LED LCD's are also the most expensive HDTV on the market right now! So you have to ask yourself, Is it worth saving $25/year for a TV that costs $3,000 more? You'd need to have the TV for 10 years for it to pay for itself!

When it comes to gaming...dollar for dollar...Plasma is best! It's facts, not opinion here!!! See this: http://www.plasma-lcd-facts.co.uk/

Is Sylvania a good brand for LCD HDTV?

Q. a 32" with the digital (ATSC) tuner built in. whats the digital (ATSC) tuner?

I'm trying to pick out a good affordable HDTV :)

A. If you think a Kia is a good car brand.......than Sylvania is a good tv.

All sarcasm aside, No. Not a good brand. For a 32" I would stick with the name brands, Sony, Sharp, Toshiba (consumer reports top pick) LG and Samsung.

Is Samsung a REALIABLE lcd hdtv brand?
Q.

A. I have had my Samsung LCD TV (46" 60Hz) for the last year or so and I couldn't be happier. For inputs I only have an aerial antenna and it is able to pick up the major networks in HD. The picture quality looks great. A friend of mine brought over his PS3 this past weekend and we through in a blu-ray. He said it the picture was a marked improvement over his LG (not sure the specs on his TV though).

I'm looking for a new HDTV,I wanted an LCD, but I want a TV larger than 60 inches. What do you recommend?

Q. If there is an LCD HDTV that is 60 inches to 65 inches that would be great, but I also want a quality TV. Are there any HDTVs over 60 inches? If not which would be my next best choice? Anything smaller would just not be suitable in my living room because the TV is far from everything else. Thanks in advance

A. There are several 60- to 65-inch flat-panel LCD HD monitors and TVs available (see the HDTV Solutions resource listed below.) However, other than Sharps LC65D64U and Olevias 265T FHD HDTVs, they are quite expensive, especially when compared to the more cost-effective, large screen alternatives such as plasma displays and front projection systems.

Within a fairly reasonable price range for the 57- to 65-inch class of flat panel displays I recommend that you give strong consideration to models from Panasonic (model TH-58PZ800U) and Pioneer (models PRO-151FD or PDP-6010FD.) As a distant choice you may want to take a look at the Samsung PN63A650 and PN58A650 plasma HDTVs, perhaps even models from Hitachi and LG Electronics.

For close to the price of a high quality, high performance, large screen flat-panel (plasma) display you can purchase a much more versatile, arguably better performing, front projector IF you have the ability to reasonably control the ambient light in your viewing environment. If you choose to go this route then you will have a multitude of good, cost-effective choices that will allow you to obtain a high quality, theater-like video image in the 65- to 100-inch size range. My top choice/recommendation is JVCs DLA-RS2U D-ILA (LCoS) projector followed by JVCs DLA-RS1X and DLA-HD100 D-ILA projectors with honorable mention going to Sonys VPL-VW60 (great performer but not much light output hence a smaller-than-average screen size is best) and Epsons Home Cinema 1080 UB and Pro Cinema 1080 UB 3LCD projectors. There are also several good (single-chip) DLP projectors that may also be worth considering particularly if ambient light control is an issue, in which case you should take a close look at Optomas impressive HD81-LV projector. Its also worth noting that several of these home theater projectors can be used with an aftermarket anamorphic lens/prism attachment* (Schneider Optics, Panamorph, or the do-it-yourself CAVX Aussiemorphic Lens kit) to project an immersive, theater-like 2.35:1 video image when watching movies.

There is one notable drawback with a projection system, especially if you will be using such a system for all of your day-to-day television viewing, and that is the cost of maintenance; specifically the cost of periodic relamping. If you are able to keep your viewing environment sufficiently light-free, thereby allowing you to run the projector more conservatively in terms of light output, then you may be able to extend the relamping intervals saving yourself money.

Is 120 Hz good or will 60 hz do it for a 55 inch lcd hdtv?
Q.

A. The benefit with 120hz is it's ability to create smooth motion. LCD panels struggle with the different frame rates of different content as such 120hz TVs were created to over come this problem. 120 is an even multiple of 24, 30, and 60 (the three most common consumer frame rates), so you can display all the HD formats with no pulldown, and therefore no judder. 60 isn't evenly divisible by 24 thus 3:2 pulldown. That being said some TVs do better 3:2 pulldown than others.

I'm terrible at explaining pulldown, so if you are not familiar, I suggest taking a glance at this website.

http://www.hdtvprimer.com/ISSUES/what_is_ATSC.html

It has a very easy to understand explanation, as well as pictures if your a visually oriented person.

I heard LCD tvs have motion lag and other things. would this TV work well? on the otehr hand, a sales associate told me that LCD tvs are like computer screens, and run games perfectly. can you PLEASE go to the link and click on specifications. thanks.

A. yes it is true that lcd's can have motion blur due to low frequency refresh rate, but if you are just an average gamer you wont notice it unless you really look in detail, many modern lcd tv's have built in features that allow you to reduce the motion blur.

but yes that tv will be fine for you if you are just a standard gamer.

Please Help... Thanks...

A. I had black bars on my standard def 23 inch tv. I got a 26 inch HDTV Widescreen and it solved the problem. No black bars.

those local house brand ( off brand ) usually clear stock after year end, could be up to $ 200 to 300 Discount , but beware of " reliability "..

but very sure , you get good discount for 1080P big screen 120 / 240 HZ LCD TV after new year 01 01 2011 .

Should I get an LCD or LED-LCD TV?
Q. Hey everybody, I'm looking for a new TV in the 300-350 dollar price range (size between 24 and 39 inches). I'm not very tech-savvy, so I thought I'd ask for some input on this. Just looking at BestBuy's website I see that there are LED LCDs now (probably have been around for awhile, but like I said I don't really keep up with this stuff). I've looked around online, and it seems to be that the LEDs are easier on the power bill, which is a big plus for me since I'm a grad student. But they are a little more expensive (though if it will pay off in the utilities as time goes on, I don't mind paying a little more). I'm just wondering if someone can tell me about any major differences quality-wise? Does one have a crisper, cleaner picture than the other, brighter colors, deeper blacks, all that good stuff? If someone wouldn't mind telling me about their experiences and opinions I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

A. Plasma has the best picture overall with deepest blacks and many specs, with great deals too. Also the best TV's of 2011 in top 5 are plasma on Cnet. But it looks like you want a small HDTV and plasma's smallest size is 42 inches. I recommend just go with LCD because LED is the same thing. Go to best buy and I think LG has 32 inch 720p LCD's for 300. I recommend 720p because at 32 inches you won't notice a benefit for 1080p. I have a 46 inch plasma at 1080p which looks amazing and even the 720p channels that come through satellite look amazing. LG is a good LCD brand and will save you $$.

Initial HDTV-260 26" LCD HDTV?

Q. anyone heard of this tv, HDTV Tuner Built In,
PC Monitor compatible with HDMI & DVI Input
Panel: 26" ATSC LCD HD TV Monitor
what does this all mean, still only picks up all anolog with direct tv box which is digital - trying to learn all this
SORRY, the box on back says digital but I donot believe it is an hd receiver, I got it from landlord to use with my tv, i believe i will need a new box, correct ? What about tivo box would that work instead or both, i am so new sorry f/ being ignorant with this stuff, info so far very helpful. thanks.

A. If you are only seeing analog on DirecTV it is because you need to get a DirecTV HD receiver and connect it to this TV with a HDMI cable or with a component cable set (red, green, blue RCA to RCA cables) and a audio cable set (white and red RCA cables) from the output of the DirecTV HD receiver to the corresponding HDMI input or aforementioned RCA connections which are inputs on the HDTV.

If you have the DirecTV HDTV box then you need to make the connection change noted above.

DirecTV Box <=== HDMI =====> HDTV

OR

DirecTV Box HDTV

What is the best 26" LCD HDTV?
Q. I'm on a budget of around 500-600 dollars so don't want to spend anymore than that. I had taken a look at a Westinghouse at Best Buy since I have a 22" WS monitor from them and love it, but when I asked them to plug in a dvd player to it, I can hardly hear the sound, is that normal also? Don't really want or need a 32" tv too.
When I mentioned I can hardly hear the sound, that was only after he plugged in the dvd player, once he swtiched back to TV without changing the volume, it was really loud. Anyone know why that is, so that if I get that TV, it won't happen to me?
And are there any specific examples of TV's to get with links and such that are within my budgets? I like quality in my picture, but I care about sound too.

A. For that type of budget, you should be able to get a nice 26" TV online. Check out the Samsung LN26A450 or Sony KDL26M4000.

Westinghouse is a budget brand, you'll get a decent TV but not the best.

Best 1080p 32"HDTV available under $400?
Q. I recently bought a Vizio 32" LCD HDTV 1080p few weeks ago. Now I am having issues such as randomly shutting down by itself with sleep set to off. Just yesterday while watching, the screen suddenly started showing tearing and lagging images and distorted sounds. I have decided to bring it back to Costco and get a new one. I might not get the same name brand, I want to get something from either Sony, Samsung, Sharp, or Philips. I'm just wondering if they have a 32" 1080p HDTV under $400 or maybe around $300-350$

A. Why do you want one. Reviews are poor. They changed and discontinued it.
http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sony-nsx-24gt1-google/4505-6482_7-34194819.html
24" is a small TV
They were dumping them a year ago, down to $200.
Only ones you would find is someone selling an old one.

Looking for 3D TV model advice?
Q. Looking for a recommendation for a Good 3D tv model/make.

Here are my desired specifications:
55" model
Wifi / Internet capable
web browser / system to view web content
2011 model release

Amy suggestions?

A. We've got an LG that we're more than happy with, having all you're wanting, 65" though. CNET has awesome reviews on TVs, as does Consumer Reports. Youtube also has electronic reviewing vieos that are helpful. Google has a wealth of information. I think it's best for you to do your own research, only you know what your specific needs are. Once you've thought about the type you want (plasma, LED, LCD), and once you've decided on whether you want passive or active shutter glasses (active shutters are very expensive, we're extremely pleased with the passives, but the type would depend on what TV you get), then look for consumer reviews. Amazon is one of my favorites.

Know About Samsung LCD HDTV 46?

Q. Hey,
I live in a dorm room, and I am on a little bit of a tight budget. Is it a good idea to buy a new TV for the superbowl this year? I feel like it would be so sick cause the superbowl on a nicer tv. Would it be better if i just tried to wait another year for a nicer tv for the next superbowl? I dont know.

A. Do it. LCD TVs, especially a Samsung one, aren't going to get any better (and cheaper). I have one back home and it's beautiful. Just be sure you can actually fit the thing in your dorm in the first place, since the desks don't compare much to its size.

46" LCD HDTV?
Q. I just setup my 46" Sony Bravia xbr LCD and was wondering if I should; calibrate it now, calibrate it later, or never calibrate it and why?

Thanks

A. From what I've read, Sonys are pretty good right out of the box. There are DVDs that can be used to check your settings. see links below.

LCD or HDTV?

Q. I want a tv. 32 inch flatscreen. which is better? LCD or HDTV

A. hoo boy.

OK, from the top... HDTV is not a TV type. it is a signal type that a TV can display. TV types include DLP, LCD, Plasma, Projection, CRT, etc.

Most people who ask any question about TV types and LCD's, are usually wanting to know which is better, LCD or Plasma. Since you're talking about 32", I don't think you'll find a plasma that small; but you will find a lot of 32" tube TV's. Either one is capable of displaying HDTV as long as you pick the right model. Not all models will... cheaper models are likely to not be HDTV capable.

TV Experts, PLEASE HELP!... LCD/LED HDTV?!?
Q. Ok planning on getting a TV, stuck between:

LG 47'' :
LG47LH90

ORRRR

SHARP AQUOS 46''
LC46LE700UN

Please take a look and tell me which is better!!

ALso, what is that LED LCD crap? is it better?!

A. LCD and LED are actually two different types of TV's. LED usually has better color quality and lighting, as well as viewing angle, but they run quite expensive.

After reviewing the two HDTV's you've listed, the LG 47" is a sure winner and I would highly recommend it. The specifications are better and will give you a better picture. It has a great design as well, which is great with HDTV's.

EDIT: For the guy below me, pardon my error. I misread something I suppose. I did research again, and LED TV's do in fact have better power consumption.

What are the differences between LED, Plasma and LCD TV's?
Q. Which is the best one?

A. Instead of everyone trying to give there own opinion on the pro and con of each technology, I recommend you go online to Home Theater Magazine. Read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. For 2010 they named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv, while 2009 belong to Pioneer Elite KURO which was also a Plasma tv. Plasma is still considered to have the best picture quality of all tv in the market today. All LCD and LED tv have a problem with blur motion when watching fast action sports or playing video games. To reduce reduce the blur motion you need the faster refresh rate of 120HZ or the 240HZ which also raises the price of the tv. Hope this will help you out.

is aoc l32w861 lcd hdtv a good brand?

Q.

A. never heard of it and I would suggest you get a reputable LCD like samsung brands or Sony They are expensive but worth it, or better yet get a plasma made by panasonic they are cheaper than the expensive LCD's and have amazing picture. The problem with these noname cheap brands is poor refresh rate and contrast , I bought a noname brand LCD for cheap and the refresh rate is so bad, that when you want to watch sports or fast action movies, your TV will have blurring like crazy and it pissed me off so much that I am going to grab a panasonic 42 inch plasma for about 1200 , Plasma's have better colour, contrast , and superior refresh rates over LCD's.

What's a good LCD HDTV brand?
Q. I'm planning on buying 2 TV within the next couple of months. I did a lot of research but I want people's recommendations. I'm looking for 1 small TV ( 20 to 24 inch) and one big one (27 to 32 inch) at a reasonable price, between $500 to $1000. I'm NOT planning to buy any Westinghouse TV. Bought one a few weeks ago but had to return it because the audio didn't sync with the video, meaning the sound lag behind by 2 seconds to the picture, which go very annoying. There was some bad reviews on Westinghouse tvs and a few people had the same problem that I did. Any good brands besides Westinghouse?

A. AVOID Westinghouse, ILO, VIZIO, Polaroid, OLEVIA, and ANY BRAND NAME that is NEW.....(just appeared on the market in the last 5 years)

Sure they are cheap, but NO PARTS to repair them at all...

You really want a brand that has been out there for 15 years or more....
They are servicable, and have better technology designed into them.
They are WORTH the money.

SONY is the BEST LCD you can get, but Toshiba, Hitachi and Samsung do make RELIABLE TVs too....

Hi is there a way making my 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P look crystal clear?

Q. Hi I own a 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P & I also own both PS3 & Charter HD cable box. I use 6ft Belkin HDMI cable for my PS3 & Charter HD cable box. Ok when I watch Blu-ray movie or HD channels, the picture it doesn't look that good compare to the Best-buy store & my 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P it is only almost 2 yrs old. In my good or is it because I have 720P resolution instead of 1080P? Thank you!
My HDTV manual book it says that it has 60Hz. What is Hz?

A. If you are watching from a normal viewing distance (6ft - 8ft or greater) then you really wouldn't need 1080p at all. In sets of 37" and smaller, most consumer and guru guides will tell you that you just don't see the advantages of 1080p anyway. Its not worth spending your money on. So the 720p is unlikely to be causing you any problems.

Hz is the refresh rate of the TV. In reality all North American TVs are 60Hz. Its 50Hz in Europe and most of the rest of the world. In playback terms, it just means that its playing it back 'normally'. In larger LCD sets, that normal playback can result in motion blur (ghost trails). This is compensated for with 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates. But these are just playback 'adjustments' they aren't real refresh rates (like you might think from a computer monitor). They help hide the blur issues basically. This is a premium feature though and you have to buy a premium model to get it.

Your TV, more often than not, won't look exactly like it would in a store. Stores manipulate things, such as the lighting, and the settings on the TV, to achieve an unnaturally vibrant look. Its good for selling TVs, its not the greatest for actually watching them though.

But if you think you need to be getting more out of your TV, then you should hit up a TV store, electronics store, DVD store, etc. and get a calibration DVD. This will help you adjust your TV settings to optimize it for your room. Make sure when you set this up that the lighting conditions are what you typically have when you use the set (as the lighting conditions will impact the final values you end up using).

A. The Final Word on HDTV by J.-

If you enjoy throwing $6400 out of the window of your car, then by all means, buy the plasma tv. If youre looking for a decent tv that will last your for a very long time, go with the LCD. While, plasma screen tvs do have a slightly better picture quality than LCDs, their(plasma) lifespans are only about 7-8 years, maximum. Most only last 5-6 years. Some people will try to bullsh** you by saying "Well, they havent been out for that long, how would you know." Well, I know, and so do the people that manufacture them, and so do the people that own them. Another point that you can make is the PS2/other game systems problem, on a plasma tv, if you leave a game system on for an extended period of time, images will become burned into the plasma screen. LCDs, while bulkier, do not have these problems. To me, people that own plasma screen tvs are just like the idiots who own hybrid cars, the only reason they buy them is so that they brag about it to their friends, in the event that the yuppie a-holes even have any. To be simple about it, if want to buy a good Hi-Def tv without spending a small fortune go with the LCD. If you have a couple of extra bucks to spend, I'd recommend DLP, but thats another story.

Now thats out of the way, if youre absolutely hell-bent on getting LCD screen then you have to go with Sony, no questions asked. I think that the vega gives you the biggest bang for your buck, but check it out, at this point in time theres not a huge cost difference between models, general speaking. In any event you want to make sure that you get a Sony. Next, having all of the HD monitors in the world won't do you a damn bit of good unless you have HDTV service. Below are your options:
Cable TV: Absolutely sucks. High cost, crappy picture quality and rather small amount of HD programming even available. Upside: Its HDTV for dummies, your ignorance is your bliss.

DirecTV: Excellent picture and quality at a decent price, however even DirecTV doesnt have a whole of programming in the way of HDTV. Also, I'm not a big fan of their HD technology, but thats just me talking, I'm kind of, well actually, very picky when it comes to TV.

Dish Network: At this point in time, Dish is probably the primo way to go for HDTV. They have excellent receivers/equipment at a fairly modest cost but more importantly they have more HD programming available than any one else on the Planet Earth. I shouldnt be saying this, given the fact that my cousin owns a DirecTV franchise, but what the hell do you care?

These are all options to mull over, but don't be an idiot when it comes to spending money on your TV setup. I promise, if you follow my advise you'll be more than happy.

-J.

What are LCD HDTV?
Q. I know what HDTVs are...but some HDTV doesn't have LCD. What's LCD?

A. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. It's one of the few technologies used for making displays/monitors/TVs. Other technologies include Plasma, Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED), Projection, and a few others not yet ready for consumers.

As opposed to HDTV, which simply means any display with 1280x720 resolution or higher, usually with a digital TV tuner (but not necessarily a HD tuner).

So an LCD HDTV would be a Liquid Crystal Display with a resolution of 1280x720 or higher.

a good gaming hdtv?

Q. anyone a very good gaming hdtv i mean i have a ps3 and i wqant a hdtv with amazing visuals that looks sharp and smooth and clear plz tell me a good hdtv to get

A. Currently the best LCD out there is the LN-52A650 by Samsung.... it looks INCREDIBLE with the 360/PS3 and Blueray! and pretty much anything else...

Cnet.com just gave the 52 inch version an 8.0 ratingmaking it their best rated LCD tv!! (it also comes in 40 and 46 inch versions)
I've seen this tv myself... and trust me.... this tv is NO JOKE!
The picture quality is STUNNING!
It has 1080p, 120hz, 50:000:1 Contrast ratio, 4ms Response time, Game/movie/sports modes.. pretty much all the latest goodies to look for in an LCD.. (better response time and contrast ratio than the Sony XBR).. plus it looks cool too (it has a red bezel) Currently Beachcamera.com has the lowest price for the 40 inch model at around 1500

Here is the Cnet.com review for the Samsung LN-52A660

Can Samsung T200 LCD Monitor be used as HDTV?
Q. Hi, I have recently bought a LCD Monitor wrongly as I actually want a HDTV. So, I would like to ask if this monitor can display high definition programs or maybe just digital programs? Do I need to use an antenna?
The monitor is a Samsung T200HD LCD Monitor. Does it function High Definition?

A. You can. This Cnet video explains it fairly well.

http://www.cnet.com/1990-7387_1-6341848-3.html?tag=dh;dh_m

You'll need either cable/satellite box or antenna with a converter box

If the monitor doesn't have built in speakers, you'll need speakers with a small amp (like computer speakers)
