How do i get the best quality from my Xbox 360?
Q. We recently bought a 52" LCD HDTV. Right now we are playing the 360 in standard definiton just on a larger screen. If i buy an HDMI Cable, will that make the quality better? And is that all i can do to maximize the graphics?

A. For the most part, yes. And I'm assuming you have an Xbox 360 Elite with the HMDI port? Not all of them have that port.

You'll probably have to set your settings the first time you connect the HDMI cable, and based on the options you choose you should have a great picture.

After that the only thing you can do is buy a TV with a superb picture, but you mention a 52" LCD HDTV which I imagine will be perfect.

Oh, and another thing, the graphics will also depend on what game you buy. Some games push the power of the 360 to it's max and other's don't stress it out so much. Choose wisely.

Other than that, the only way to get better graphics is to buy a PS3.. Muahahaha.

For an HDTV 42 or 46 inches, what is the difference in 60hz and 120hz?

Q. I've done quite a bit of research and find answers that vary. Is the refresh rate of 120 so much better that its worth paying an extra 20 dollars for? Best Buy has a 46 inch LED with a refresh rate of 60hz for 440 dollars, while the 120hz is 460. Is it worth paying extra for?

A. 60 hz is bad, you get a lot of pulldowns and motion blur. I don't recommend anything less than 120 hz.

Brands that I like the most and probably from best to least:
- (Top brands) Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sony.
- (Top offbrands) Toshiba, Phillips, Vizio.
- When you buy a tv, make sure it good and has all the input and outputs that will be needed, also know that there are smart tv's.

Plasma >=< LED > LCD (LED is the same, but a upgrade from a LCD).
- Best picture quality = Plasma.
- Best audio quality = Plasma.
- Best energy consumption and environment friendly = LED.
- Best reliability = LED.
- (Newer plasma tv's fixed their burn in and use little less energy and a little better for bright rooms, the way plasma tv's are designed have no motion blur problems).
- (Newer led's use motion interpolation frames to up the frame rate of a video to fix motion blur, but can cause the soap opera effect, led's are good for bright rooms).

1920x1080 resolution or higher resolution is good (1920*1080=2,073,600 pixels).
- 1080 resolution is better than 720 resolution.
- Bigger tv's are better with 1080 than 720 (If the tv is around 32 inches or less I would go with 720, any bigger I would just want a 1080 especially for tv's that are over 42 inches).
- Farther you sit away from the tv means it's better to go with 1080 than 720 (If you watch more than 6 feet away from your tv, then I definitely would go with 1080).

Progressive scan > interlaced scan.
- Progressive scanning is a way of displaying, storing, or transmitting moving images in which all the lines of each frame are drawn at the same time.
- Interlaced scanning is a way of displaying, storing, or transmitting moving images in which all the odd lines of a frame is displayed first then all the even lines of a frame is displayed second.
- Example: 1080p > 1080i
- Example: 720p > 720i
- Example: 1080i > 720p (because more resolution is better for slower passed videos).
- Example: 720p > 1080i (because fast pass videos you be better off with progressive scan).

FPS = frames per second (of a video).
- Frame rate is how many individual images are displayed in a second. Think of a video as a fast moving flip book.
- NTSC countries use 30p or 60i fps.
- PAL countries use 24p/25p or 50i fps.

Hz = refresh rate (of a tv).
- Example: A tv with a 120hz refresh rate, meaning it refreshes the entire tv screen 120 times a second, some tv's use black light scanning.

- Many tv's allow viewers to have a computer program in the television digitally analyze concurrent frames and use the data to create intermediary frames. The insertion of these frames is called interpolation and they are what cause the soap opera effect by creating more fake frames (higher fps) in between the real frames to match the refresh rate of a tv.
- Many tv's allow viewers to turn off interpolation and force the television to repeat the same frame a number of times to match the refresh rate of a tv or use a 3:2 or 2:3 pulldown to match the refresh rate of a tv (a pull down will cause jittery screen also known as judder).

For NTSC countries:
- Example: To display 30 frames per second on a TV with a 120 hz refresh rate, each frame is repeated 4 times every 30th of a second.

For PAL countries:
- Example: To display 24 frames per second on a tv with a 120hz refresh rate, each frame is repeated 5 times every 24th of a second.

When the frame rates of a video cannot not divide into the refresh rate of a tv equally like the above examples, there is more math to it and there is 3:2 or 2:3 pull downs.

I am still new to 3d tv's, ill have to get into them as well and I am not really a fan of 3d tv's anyways.
- All I can say for now is I only like it for very slow moving scenes.
- When most movies start using a higher fps (EX: Lotr-hobbit with 48 fps), 3d will look better and less blurry during face pass scenes.

I am not really a fan of projectors either.

How do i get a pc screen onto a samsung series 7 46 inch screen?
Q. what kind of cord do i need for it to go to my hp pavilion f1903 to my samsung 46 inch lcd tv. if some on could give me a name of cord and maby a pic t thanks will be best anser

A. If your Samsung LCD HDTV has a 15-pin Dsub VGA port, then you simply use a standard VGA monitor cable to connect it to your HP computer.

I doubt your HP has a DVI port (most HP computers tend to use onboard graphics with VGA only), but if it does, you can use a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect to one of the HDTV's HDMI ports. This is better because DVI / HDMI uses a digital video signal. (VGA is analog.)

what do i need to consider before buying a HDTV?

Q. i m planning to buy a LCD HDTV ...so cud anybody tell me what do i need to think before buying one. which brand do u think is the best one in market. i least bother about money thing but i am looking for really good features. but i have no idea what features do i need to see in it....so please help ....

A. The LCD is crap compared to Plasma. Looking at them side by side I could never pay even $5 for the LCD. Save your money and buy the best.

How will the prices for LCD HDTVs change in 2008?
Q. I've noticed some major stores selling 42-inch widescreen LCD HDTVs for under a thousand bucks... it's a lot of money to drop for something that will contribute only to my sitting around and being unproductive, but still, at that price, it's tempting.

I'm wondering, will the prices for such TVs continue to drop (especially around / after holiday season) or is at at a plateau for the time being?

A. The new 12/07 Consumer Reports magazine projects a price drop of 25-30% over the next year for popular size plasmas and LCDs. Generally speaking, the best times of the year to buy a TV on sale is in April, July, and November.

What is the Best HDTV and best place to buy it?

Q. I want to buy an HDTV. I would like one that is in the 46 inch or 47 inch range. What are the best HDTV's and where are the smartest places to buy them? Please help me because I am a terrible shopper! Thank You!

A. It depends on your situation.

Are you going to be watching the tv in a high level light area? If so, you'll want a LCD HDTV.
Vizios are pretty good LCD's, as well are Sony's

Is it going to be a dark room? If so, you'll want a Plasma HDTV.
For Plasmas, I'd recommended Panasonic or Samsung.

If you really want, THE BEST available. Get Samsungs LED TV

Is it worth the extra money to get an LED-LCD TV vs standard LCD?
Q. Our old 32" TV died and its time to get a nice HDTV. I've ruled out plasma, so its down to LCD. The newer LED-LCD seem to have a more crisp picture and better contrast than the standard LED. In partcicular I like the Samsung. But a 47" LED-LCD is almost $500 more than the standard LCD. Is it worth the extra?

A. I own the Samsung 46 inch LED 8000 series. I was hesitant to purchase this TV due to the price, but ultimately i decided to get it for the following reasons.

1.) Better contrast and color accuracy
2.) Better viewing angle
3.) Displays 240 Hz, auto motion plus.
4.) Uses less energy
5.) Super thin, looks fantastic

After owning this TV for 4 months now, I have to say I love it. It was well worth the extra cost. However, there are a few nit picking things I didn't like about it.

1.) The remote is enormous. Also, hard to take out and switch the batteries in the remote.
2.) HDMI inputs ports requires cables to be connected sideways at the panel’s rear edge. So your cables stick out from the side, looks like the TV is on life support.
3.) There is a bright blue glowing light on the bottom of the set. You have the option of turning if off, but it still blinks on and off briefly if you change the channel or volume.

Whats the better deal on tvs?

Q. I'm looking for a small flat screen tv. I want a great picture and I want it to be cheap. I saw Best Buy has two black friday deals..
Option #1: Sharp 42" Class LCD 1080p HDTV..for $199....
Option #2: Dynex 24" Class LCD 1080p HDTV for $79.
Twenty four inches would be big enough for me, but does Dynex make good tv's? I also saw Walmart had several deals:
Option #3: Emerson 40" LCD tv..$248
Option #4: Samsung 32" LCD..$278
Option #5: Emerson 32": LCd..$188

As you can see.. I have too many options. Let me know which one I should get and why.

A. All the tvs you have looked at are the bargain price tv. They do not last long and would not recommend any of them. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from those bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Panasonic and Samsung are the top brand for reliability. Hope this will help you out.

Using a HDTV as a computer monitor?
Q. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sharp+-+42%26%2334%3B+Class+/+LCD+/+1080p+/+60Hz+/+HDTV/3142087.p?skuId=3142087&id=1218379763676

As a doorbuster special on Black Friday, that TV will be $199.99 and I figure I would be a moron if I didn't pick that up. I would be using it for a gaming console for awhile, which is no problem, but around income tax time I plan on building myself a gaming computer, and I figure that rather than buy an expensive monitor I would just use this TV as a monitor, assuming this TV has the capability.

Now I know nothing about what would be required to do this. What sort of cables/adapters should I look for, assuming they're necessary at all? Will I need to take the specs of my computer into consideration at all?
The TV does have 4 HDMI inputs. So is that all I would need? HDMI ran from my computer to the TV?

A. Look on the back of your graphics cards. Is it blue. if so that is vga. If it is a tan color that is dvi.
you would need to get a dvi-hdmi connector
like the one found here
http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?spcDB=10231&spcWord=Video+Cables+-+%3Cb%3EHDMI+%26+DVI%3C%2Fb%3E&keyword=dvi%20n%20hdmi

if you have a vga. I am not sure about the adapter. If you tv has a pc hook up look for what native resolution it supports

What would the best selection be for a LCD or Plasma TV for an office conference room?

Q. We would be putting up spread sheets and the like on the screen as well as power point presentations.

What features should I look for?
Brands and models would be appreciated. We are looking in the 47" or so range.

A. You totally need to be careful about getting caught up in hype over features that make watching TV or movies or such better. That's not going to be an issue for you. But can add significant cost. So you can ditch those things and save a tone of money.

So ignore 120Hz/240Hz rates. Great for sports, action movies, and gaming. Way overkill for your needs (and adds a lot of $). Ignore LED LCD. Again great for other types of uses, but way overkill for you (and huge expense). But do go with LCD. I think that's far better suited for the kind of corporate uses you talk about (a Plasma would be good if you were a TV production company only).

But I disagree with the other comment about 720p. I think you should go for 1080p to get full 1920x1080 resolution. Your LCD TV is just there to serve as a really large scale computer monitor really. So I would go with one with greater resolution incase you need it. If you want to tone down the resolution you can, but at least you have the option to do 1920x1080 if you want.

Definitely look out for VGA or DVI ports. That way its easy to hook up laptops to the TV. Most sets in that size range will have such, but just double check.

I would look to Samsung, Sony, Sharp, or LG at that size. I think you'll get a good option from any of them. They are all top tier brands. As for some example options,

Samsung LN46B530 - 46" CCFL LCD 1080p 60Hz - http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN46B530-46-Inch-1080p-HDTV/dp/B001U3Y8OU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257205600&sr=8-4 - $1,074 Amazon

Sony KDL-46V5100 - 46" CCFL LCD 1080p 120Hz - http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BRAVIA-KDL-46V5100-46-Inch-1080p/dp/B001T9N0EO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257205829&sr=1-1 - $1,099 Amazon (normally I wouldn't bother with the 120Hz, but Sony gives it to you here at a decent price)

Sharp Aquos LC46D65U - 46" CCFL LCD 1080p 60Hz - http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC46D65U-46-Inch-1080p/dp/B001E8YQ1Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257205920&sr=1-1 - $950 Amazon

All of those have VGA PC inputs. So you'd be in good shape. Any of those would serve you well. I kind of like the Sony option as it falls within a similar price range as the others but adds in the 120Hz. Again, while not necessary for your needs, it could be had for a decent price and so if you ended up showing something with some fast motion on it for some reason, it would be a bit better suited than the other choices.

Also use cnet.com to do your own review checks if you want.

How much is it for a knew screen on an LCD Sharp 46" TV?
Q. The screen on the tv is broken like cracked and different colors. Not an actual crack you can only tell when the tv is on. How much should this be?

A. You are not going to find a replacement part for your tv. Manufacturer will just replace the whole tv if it is covered under the factory warranty. Due to the cost of labor, if is not cost effective in replacing. Panasonic Plasma tv is the most reliable tv in the market and is still considered to have the best picture quality of all tv. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. If you read yahoo questions all the time, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Sharp is considered a bargain tv. Hope this will help you out.

whats the difference between a hd tuner antenna and a hdtv digital receiver?

Q. Would I need to get cable or can I just get one or the other of the products I'm asking about. The tv I have is a 720p lcd hdtv. Thanks.

A. antennae gets its picture and sound from stations that broadcast through the air. A receiver requires cable or satellite. You will need HMI cable or the component cables (Red Green Blue)

How do I set up a soundbar for my HDTV (for use with XBOX 360, blu-ray, etc)?
Q. I want to buy a soundbar. I have a Panasonic TC-L32X2 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with iPod Dock.

I'd like to buy the Philips CSS2123B/F7 SoundBar Home Cinema Speakers

First of all, are they compatible with each other? Would I need to purchase a coaxial cable to connect the TV to the soundbar? I have an XBOX 360, blu-ray player, and Wii U all connected to the TV via HDMI ports. Would I be able to hear sound from those devices if the soundbar is connected to the TV or does it have to be connected to the specific device in use at the time?

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A. Yes.

You will be connecting the TV to the soundbar via optical cable and the setting then TV speakers to External in the user menu. Then connect everything using HDMI and your cooking with gas.

Hope that helps.

How to find out if my tv is LCD or Plasma?

Q. So I bought this TV 42' SONY KDL-42EX44X. All my friends now asking me what is this LCD or PLASMA and i have no idea my self what is this.

How much is a screen and LCD for a TV?

Q. I bought a 42" Vizio 1080P LCD HDTV for $750 about a year and a half ago with a 2 year service plan. The TV fell off the stand and broke the screen and LCD display. Apparently the damn 2 year service plan won't cover falls even though the employee told me it would. (If I would've known that I wouldn't have bought the service plan.) Anyway, I can't see anything on the screen except for the huge spots from the damaged LCD. I hear it's usually cheaper to buy a new TV than to fix them but I was just wondering how much it would cost anyway, just in case. (You never know until you ask!) Any information you guys can give would be very helpful.

A. Currently, you can get a Vizio'' 1080 LCD HDTV with 3D for as low as $523 at amazon. This is an extremely great deal for a TV with 3D technology as well as two 3D glasses also comes with it. This TV also has built in Wi-Fi. I personally think its better if you buy a new TV rather than fixing it as the repair cost might be able to get you even a newer version of the HDTV you are fixing.
I have provided the link below for you.

How Do You Hook Up an Old DVD Player to a new HDTV?
Q. I have an Toshiba 42" 1080p LCD HDTV REGZA, cable box and a DVD Player. I can't figure out how to hook up my DVD player to either my TV. My cable cords use the same cords slots as my DVD player.

A. Since you said your DVD player is old, I assume it does not have an HDMI output. If it had component video (Red, Green, Blue) then you need a component cable and you can connect it to the HDTV. You still need red and white audio (composite) to get the audio to your TV. If you do not have component output, then your only bet is composite (yellow for video, red and white for audio). HDTVs are intelligent enough to recognize all the inputs you plug into them.

How much FPS will a vizio 26 inch hdtv lcd monitor do up to until it discards the rest?
Q. (like average 17" will display 60fps and discard the rest... well what about a vizio 26 inch hdtv lcd monitor?)

A. depends on the max resolution...a 26" is likely 720p? In the 720p the "p" refers to a max framerate of 60fps if it is some how 1080i this is 30fps...typically these all support 60 fps in 1280x720 resolution...if it is in fact 1080p this it will support 60 fps in 1920x1080 resolution

Do you think that this is worth buying?

Q. I want to get a new tv and at best buy they have this sale for a 42 inch for $200.I know it hasn't been released yet but I want to conform it's worth buying.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sharp+-+42%26%2334%3B+Class+/+LCD+/+1080p+/+60Hz+/+HDTV/3142087.p?skuId=3142087&id=1218379763676

A. I saw this too, and was wondering the same thing. But it says a minimum of 10 per store. So they could only have 10 at the store you go to. So i highly doubt you'd even get it. I remember last year me and my dad went for a tv, and we were close to the front of the line, and they were gone before he even got to the tv section. And they had 50 in stock. Also i think the tv's a cheap version. With probably okay picture and okay quality. Probably not that great. Because why would they sell it so cheap if it was a good tv? They just want to get rid of it because they know they couldnt sell it otherwise.

I plan on buying a Insignia® - 42" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV , I wanted to know if this will be to big?
Q. Will this TV be to big for my bedroom? I made a guess measurement and I will be sitting at least 7-8ft away from the TV. I know the recommended is 10ft but 7 or 8ft is pretty close to 10ft. Thanks

A. I don't know who told you that 10ft was the recommended seating distance but that 42" 1080p TV is perfect for your seating distance!

The recommended seating distance for a 42" 1080p TV is between 6ft to 8ft! The distance for a 42" 720p TV is between 8ft to 12ft! Maybe that's were the mix up came from.

Just FYI...if you plan to buy that TV, get an extended warranty with it! Insignia is not a very reliable brand of TV. They have problems with their power supply boards and inverter boards! I recommend LCD brands like Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp or Toshiba!

Hope this helps!

Looking to buy a lcd HDTV, wondering which ones are good?

Q. I am looking to buy a lcd hdtv and wanted to hear if anyone had suggestions for 46-52 inch. I like to play xbox 360, and the previous hdtv had a small but noticeable lag from when a button is pressed to when it shows up on the tv. Any suggestions?

A. If you can afford I would recommend Samsung LN52B750 52-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LCD HDTV or Samsung LN46B750 46-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LCD HDTV. Great picture with 150,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Smooth motion with 240Hz and fast 2ms response time

but if you want to save money Samsung LN52B630 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV or Samsung LN46B650 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV are great choice

What is the best LCD HD TV to purchase that is 46 inch or 52 inch and what is the best price for it?
Q. Looking at Sony Bravia 52inch Lcd HD TV and the Sharp Aquos 52 inch LCD HD TV. Which is best and what is the best price for it?

A. a few sony LCD HDTVs models are rated really well. In general I would go with a Sony over a Sharp. As for price, need some specs (ie resolution 720p or 1080p) to better determine prices.

What's a good price to sell a 55 inch LCD HDTV for?

Q. I bought a Sanyo 55 inch LCD HDTV in September for 850 bucks. I want to sell it on craigslist (it's faster) cause I need some spending cash. So far I got a 400 dollar offer( listed price was 550). What would u do and what is good price in your mind?

A. That person that is offering you $400 is not a good deal do not take it, that is more than half off and since you just bought it in september it is practically new. A good price for me would be $600

What is the best soundbar in the less than 300 dollar range?
Q. I have a Hisense 55" LCD TV. It is a good tv for what I paid, but the sound is atrocious! Does anyone know of a reasonably priced soundbar that works well? An ipod dock or bluetooth would be a definite plus. I have found various options on Amazon and I am just trying to whittle it down to the best ones. Thank you for any help.

A. Some things to be careful of:

Many soundbars accept left/right RCA jacks. Your HDTV probably has a Optical output. These are NOT compatible with each other. Make sure to only buy a soundbar that accepts optical.

For speakers - always buy speakers from a company that makes speakers as their main business. This means Energy, Polk, Klipsch, Boston, etc. Avoid Samsung, Philips, Sony, etc. These companies make some good items, but speaker are not their strengths.

The better sound bars have a external subwoofer. The small speakers in a soundbar cannot produce BASS. If you like action/adventure shows or movies, consider getting a unit with a external subwoofer.

They do make ones with wireless subwoofers but running an RCA cable is cheaper and the system tends to cost less. Go for one of these if you can afford it.

What is the better choice between LED and LCD HDTV's?

Q. I am in the first stage of buying a new flat screen TV and I need a reliable source on which is better. I have seen some that include both LED-LCD in their description. What does this mean?. Please enlighten me! The universe will reward you further if you could include a link to a good 32" to 42" TV. Thanks!!

A. Both LED and LCD are LCD tvs. Different backlights. LED are the newer tech and are still having new tech issues. Clouding, flashlighting at the corners of the screen and other screen anomolies.

If you want 3D you have to get an LED. LEDs have the newest internal tech also. LCD are being shifted to the lower line tvs but they have fewer problems. If you want the latest and greatest you should get LED. If you are OK with older tech but fewer issues, you should go with LCD.

Go with a Samsung or Sony tv. The universe should be satisfied with that as they both are coming out with new models as we speak, so links are not available if you want the newest 2012 models.

may be the best to go to by the comments that others have left.

i hope that the above information will help you in achieving your goal.

What do you need to consider when buying a new tv?
Q. I haven't bought a tv in about 9 years. I'm completely overwhelmed when looking at tvs today. I know nothing about the specifics. I have cable. I need a 37" screen size. But...
Plasma, LCD, or LED?
Brands? Is Panasonic a good brand?
720 or 1080 p? what is that?
60 Hz? What is that?

A. (1) Take your time then and learn about new technical specifications so you can be an educated buyer. Don't rush into a purchase.

(2) Go to cnet.com and look at their HDTV buying guide - http://reviews.cnet.com/tv-buying-guide/

(3) At 37", you don't have to be too worried about a lot of the confusing specifications out there. The reason being is that a lot of the fancy options out there are really only better suited on larger sets (50" or larger). They are just hard, if at all possible, to see in smaller sets. Most good buying guides will tell you that you don't need to spend money on those features in that size.

(4) LED is just a form of LCD. The "standard" LCD TV uses fluorescent based lights as the light source. LED LCDs simply use LEDs as the light source. This is considered a premium feature though and will cost you more.

LED lights provide a lighter weight, less power consumption, and can provider truer blacks. That's why they have become a popular choice in LCD buyers.

(5) Standard LCDs and LED LCDs can have issues with fast motion playback. That's where you'll see the feature called Refresh Rate (60Hz vs 120Hz vs 240Hz). The higher refresh rates are meant to try and help with fast motion playback. You need to look at fast motion on an LCD though before investing in a faster refresh rate set. Everyone's visual sensitivities are different, so some people don't even really pick up on the LCD flaw at all, and so don't really benefit from paying for the premium option. Also, some people find the 120Hz or 240Hz options to have a peculiar looking motion playback.

(6) 720p and 1080p are resolutions.

Think of your screen as being a drawing composed of tiny little pixels. A 720p image is drawn using 1280x720 pixels and a 1080p image is drawn using 1920x1080 pixels. So in theory the 1080p picture will have more details because it has more pixels (more subtle information).

But again, your visual perception makes a difference. In reality in smaller sized sets you can't notice the extra pixels (they become so small they aren't visible really). Also, again, we all have different visual sensitivities so you need to look for yourself and not rely only on theoretical specs. I know people who have 50" sets at 720p and are 100% satisfied with the HDTV viewing experience.

(7) Plasma has a lot of great features inherent to the technology, so can sometimes be cheaper than an LED LCD. It naturally produces very good colors and blacks. LCDs brought in LEDs to help try and match Plasma. Plasma has an inherently super fast response time, so it can playback fast motion flawlessly (like an old CRT/tube TV set). That is one place Plasma definitely beats LCD.

Plasma though is glass. So it can be an issue for glare if the room you're putting it is very bright and you can't control that light easily. Panasonic has a really good anti-glare screen, but it is still glass, so will have more glare than say an LED LCD.

Plasma isn't made in smaller sizes. You would have to jump to at least 42" to get a Plasma.

(8) Panasonic is an amazing brand. They are the world leaders in Plasma TV technology. If you go Plasma, they should be your first consideration (and maybe your only consideration). They have one of the strongest reputations right now in television for both quality of image, but also quality of product. Panasonic LCDs are also very good quality TV sets (if you do go 37", Panasonic does have LCD offerings you might want to consider).

Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, LG, and Vizio are all also considered "top tier" brands. They too would be worth your consideration. Other brands would be considered "second tier" brands and frankly, I would tend to avoid those if possible.

(9) Shop around for prices. Most places will price match each other, so you can buy a set from the place closest to your house and just get them to price match the best price you can find out there.

Amazon.com is a great place to look for prices (or even buying frankly). I would always check prices there first. ABCWarehouse is also a good place to look for prices. I would take a peak at their online site for prices as well.

If you're getting close to your TV purchase, but can wait a bit, wait until late february and early march. There will be a release of some new TV models at that point. So you can either consider those or you can look for some big sales as the last year models (which are still perfectly great sets) are liquidated. June is the other big sale period (revving into Father's Day and also the second "new TV models" release phase). The final sale period is Black Friday. It always has good prices, but not always good models. The March and June sales I find can often result in better buys on the good models.

How high should sharpness level be set on lcd hdtv?

Q. We just had our LCD HDTV installed yesterday. It's a Samsung 40 inch. The HD channels look great. The non HD channels look good too but are a little blurry when up close to the TV. Will increasing the sharpness level make the picture more clear or is it the opposite? It was set up at 25% I increased it to 50% and I can't really tell if it's better or worse.
Thanks

A. It all depends on how noisy the signal is. If you have a really clean signal, you can run the sharpness up quite a bit before you'll see negative effects like edge ringing and graininess.

I'm getting my digital signal over-the-air (antenna) and the signal is so clean that I can max out the sharpness and it still looks great. I generally leave it at about 75%. I'm viewing the shows on an older non-HD CRT. The situation might well be different on an HD set.

How can i make my HDTV have a higher resolution?
Q. I just got a LCD HDTV 32'' by vizio and it only goes up to 1366 x 768 resolution, i mainly want to use this for my desktop computer so everything looks blown up and bigger on it than my old 22 inch monitor that supported 1680x1050. Am i stuck on this 1366 x 768 resolution or is there a way to make it better, i have a really expensive video card, 460 GTX

Any help would be awesome.

A. Nope, that's as high as it goes.

To go any higher you'll need a 1080p set.

How well does a lcd hdtv work as a computer monitor?

Q. A lcd hdtv i am buying has a computer input. Will it look just as good as my computer monitor? it would save me some space.

A. It may depend on the make, but it will work well as a computer monitor.

I got my laptop hooked up to my LCD TV using an inexpensive VGA cable (same as the cable from your CPU to the computer monitor) to view my jpeg digital pictures. I could use the mouse to find my photo directories, veiw photos as a slide, etc.

When I hooked up the cable, I had the option of using the TV as the computer monitor or have both the laptop screen and the TV display on.

How to get a better picture quality on a lcd hdtv?
Q. I recently bought a 1080p lcd hdtv, right now im watching tv just through basic cable without a cable box or anything else. But when im watching tv i dont feel the picture quality is very good, it looks somewhat blurry and i just dont feel like im getting what im suppose to. I wasnt really expecting that though it being an HD ready tv and putting out 1080p. Would getting an HD cable box from my cable provider help?

A. The picture looks bad because you are looking at standard-definition channels, not HD channels.

HDTVs usually make standard-def channels look WORSE, not better!

So what you need to do is get some HD channels.

To do that with cable, you probably have to upgrade your cable account to pay extra for HD and get an HD cable box. But before you do that, you could try without a box, and have your TV scan for new channels (tell it you have digital cable when you start the scan), and it may pick up a few channels (mostly major networks) in HD. If you are happy with just those in HD, you might not need to pay extra for HD.

Is there a safe way to ship a 37" LCD HDTV from NY to Quebec, Canada?

Q. Just bought my PS3 a week ago and I'm planning to buy a 37" LCD HDTV. However I'm planning to move to Quebec, Canada in 4 months. I just want to ship it via UPS or FedEx. Do you think it's gonna come in one piece?

A. UPS or FEDEX is fine. Just make sure you get alot of padding and bubble wrap!!! LCD is not as fragil as Plasma.

how do you get a burned image out of your LCD TV?
Q. I have a 37" LCD HDTV and now there are burned images on the screen. It's about a year old and I have fell asleep with it on several times but is there any way to get the images off. Some of the burns are words and dark spots to the point where its hard to see the movie I'm watching. Any tips? Please Help!

A. LCD screens should not burn images, as there is no phosphor layer to burn. You're sure it's not a plasma display?

If it is LCD, disconnect the antenna so that you get a "random static" screen. Do you still see the "ghost" images? If they have disappeared, you may not have a burning problem, but more likely you are getting cross-channel interference from an adjacent channel or from a channel that is broadcasting locally. Check all your connections and make sure there are no loose cables that might allow another signal to creep in to your set.

Should I wait to buy a nice an LCD HDTV or go big now?

Q. Basically I've done hours of research on different types of LCD's. I have came done to instead of spending the extra money not just buy a cheap 32in LCD HDTV on black friday then in two years sell that and buy a nice 37in.

Do you think it would be worth the wait?

A. nope been there done that, once you have your tv your going to regret going to small! and like they say go big or go home!

What's the difference between an Hd ready tv and an actual hdtv ?? also which is better of the two the lcd
Q. which is better that comes with those two, the lcd hdtv or the lcd hd ready tv? IM comfused and dont want to waste my money. Also if I were to buy a xbox 360 what dpi do i need for it? and how would i find it on the advertisement or in the store?

A. For an Xbox 360, the best resolution is 1080p, so an HDTV that offers this resolution will be what you want. An HDTV-Ready television does not have a built-in HD receiver, while an HDTV does. Look at the picture quality of different sets and determine the best one for your needs -and voila!

AnyBody Know Which model of LCD HDTV Can fully display 1080i with the lowest cost?
Q. I am looking for a Cheapest HDTV which has a resolution of 1080i no matter the screen size is? Any idea?

A. I regret to inform you there is no such thing in the LCD/Plasma in the market that can strickly display 1080i in it's "Native" Format. Most tv's handle 1080P or 720P ONLY. There is ONE exception..Hitachi manufactures a 42" Plasma that has a "Native" resolution of true 1080i. That's about it dude. Good luck, Dan Futureshop Manager 15 years experience.

Can my lcd hdtv survive out in my shed over the winter?

Q. I want to put my lcd hdtv out in my shed. I want to watch tv out there when i work on my snowmobile, but im not sure if the tv will be ok if left out there. I will heat the shed when out there, but not when im out there. The shed is fully weaterproof, but will still reach extreamly low temperatures.

A. The lowest of the low temperatures I saw (and this is brand, model and size dependent) was -22 degrees Fahrenheit. I wouldn't do it! Put a CRT out there, they can handle it, and if it dies....oh well. Don't hurt your HDTV if it means that much to you!

What all does a 2 year service plan warranty cover on a TV?
Q. I bought a 42" Vizio LCD 1080P HDTV brand new about a year and a half ago at WalMart. It was working fine until it fell over because my landlord hasn't fixed the damn crooked floors. From the looks of it, the screen and the LCD are broke. I purchased the 2 year service plan with it but I lost the receipt. Is there anything at all that I can do or am I just SOL?????

A. Physical damage is not covered under warranty any where in the world.

Ask your landlord for compensation. The amount you would pay to replace the 42" screen component you will get a brand new TV at a price lower than that.

How much would it cost to repair my TV?

Q. I have a projection screen TV (I know, a little old-school, but it's 52", so I'd like to fix it if possible). The red color gun is out of alignment and the motor is burned out so I can't adjust it with the remote. How much do you think it would cost to repair it? Can it even be repaired? I figure it's worth about $500, so if the repairs are going to be more than $250, it probably isn't worth it. I live in Madison, WI, if that makes a difference.

A. it would cost you double what the tv is worth. Plus the picture isn't very good compared to what is out there. You can buy a 55" HD LCD rear projection for like $1200 or go with a flat LCD HDTV for under $1000, like a 46", you will be much much happier than with an old 52" 4x3 tv.

What is the difference between low-cost digital projectors and expensive ones?
Q. I mean in terms of picture quality, reliability etc. I want to get a projector to watch DVDs at home but I don't wanna get a useless one or else an expensive one that gives me stuff I don't really need. Thanks.

A. What's the difference between a budget and luxury car? Both will take you where you want to go.

Many things go into a digital projector. Like cars the differences can be subtle.

Better projectors will use better components -- better optics, better video processors, better LCD or DLP panels/chips, etc. There will be better thought out design resulting in superior cooling, quieter fans, higher contrast ratio, less light leakage, more user friendly menu structure, etc. A third difference is in extra features, like zoom lens range, horizontal and/or vertical offset adjustment, connectivity options.

But -- as with cars -- more expensive doesn't necessarily give better dependability or performance.

The cost of projectors -- particularly 1080p models -- has decreased greatly in the last couple of years (See the link for a comment on this). A 1080p projector can be purchased for under $2000, even less than some 720p projectors.

There are compromises on the lower priced models within a resolution class ... not quite as good sharpness, not quite the same contrast ratio, a bit less capable video processing, etc. ... but most still represent great value for the money.

If I were buying today I'd be looking at 1080p projectors simply because projectors are the only HDTV capable device where 1080p is ALWAYS a benefit (See Link 2 for why). And the price differential between a 720p and 1080p model has dropped to $1000 or less. If 1080p is still too rich for you, the 720p category has some great choices too (I have a 720p model and am not rushing to replace it any time soon).

That said, there are differences between the projectors in each resolution class (the only fair way to differentiat). The most obvious is in the technical basis for the projector -- LCD, DLP, LCoS -- and in the degree of mounting flexibility (zoom lens range, offset capability).

Past that I highly recommend reading detailed reviews .. particulalry comparative reviews where differences between models are specifically identified ... at the two sites at the links below (3rd and 4th link)

Hope this helps.

How can you replace a broken LCD screen in a Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV?

Q. My sister in law left a broken Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. I looked online but I can't seem to find any place where I can find just the screen for replacement. Does anyone know where I can buy just the screen or how to fix it?

A. you need SKILLS and tools to replace the LCD DISPLAY PANEL.
However , if you known the PARTS COST , you will never want to replace it, and buy an new TV for sure.
New LCD display panel cost about 65 % of same screen size of new TV. + shipping and services charge to replace the panel . total is around 80 + % of new LCD TV.
will you still want to buy the display panel ?
Sylvania is handle by Funai same as Philips Brand TV sold in USA. the 42 inc display panel is made by Taiwan Che-Mei. if you comfortable with the prices. contact Funai USA.

What would you consider is the starting size of a large LCD HDTV?
Q. What would you consider is the average size of a decent LCD HDTV. Im not worried about the size of my room or whatever....etc. I want to buy an LCD HDTV that is just a little larger than normal. So......what would you consider is the starting screen size of a "larger than average" LCD HDTV? The guys at Best Buy recommended a 42in.......what do you think? Do you think a 42+ inches is the starting size of a "larger" TV size?

A. i know people who have 37" and it suits them just fine for an upgrade. My family just got a 42" but we've been putting off getting one for over 3 years...and probably won't upgrade for another 5 years at least.

What's the best HD tv i could buy for gaming?

Q. I want a 54 inch hdtv
and i want to play xbox 360 on it and playstation 3.
and to also watch movies...from my external hard drive thru my xbox360

thanks in advance!

A. TV size matters. In 37" and smaller you don't need to worry about the high end features because you just won't see them in those sizes. You are clearly going into the sizes where it does matter. So you need to make sure you get the better features.

If you go LCD (which I don't recommend), then you want to look at LED LCD, 1080p resolution, 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rate. This will end up being a costly set, but its what you need to deliver a good experience in a TV of that size.

If can save some green, and get a better image, and go with a Plasma. The biggest thing said against Plasmas for gaming is the burn-in factor. That is no longer an issue, and hasn't been for years. But there are lots of uneducated people out there. And the better brands (Panasonic and Samsung) even include extra anti-image retention features, above and beyond the advancements in the technology.

Though with the gaming, I might hold off on that for the first 20-50 hours. And for the first 100-200 hours keep the brightness and contrast (picture) cranked way down. That will condition the Plasma set. After that optimize and enjoy.

LCDs of larger sizes are inherently flawed in fast motion playback. They suffer from motion blur. This is compensated for with 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates. This helps but its not perfect. And you pay a tone for it. Plasma is near instantaneous response time right out of the box, nothing to pay for.

CCFL (most) LCDs have muted colors, grey blacks, and average contrast. This is compensated for with the LED LCD. That greatly improves those issues. But you will pay a massive premium for this feature. And Plasma is better on all fronts right out the box, nothing extra to pay for.

Right now at Best Buy,

50"

Panasonic TC-P50G10 - on sale for $1,320
- G10 series, best there in Plasma (except Pioneer Kuro Elite)

Panasonic TC-P50S1 - on sale for $1,200
- very good performer, would be an amazing set

Samsung PN50B650 - on sale for $1,400
- if you just feel you're a Samsung person

54"

Panasonic TC-P54S1 - on sale for $1,700
- here's your 54" set, really great option

58"

Samsung PN58B550T2 - $2,600

Just for reference, LCDs

Samsung LN55B640 (CCFL 1080p 120Hz) - $1,900 on sale - 55"
Sony KDL-52V5100 (CCFL 1080p 120Hz) - $1,800 on sale - 52"
Sharp LC52D85U (CCFL 1080p 120Hz) - $1,500 - 52"

LED LCDs

Samsung UN55B8000 (LED 1080p 240Hz) - $4,000 - 55"
Samsung UN55B6000 (LED 1080p 120Hz) - $2,900 - 55" (on sale)

Where is the best place to buy good quality a television for a good price?
Q. Preferably a 40-49 inch, between the price range of $450-$600...

A. I would recommend you to buy it online as if you get from local stores you pay sales tax which can be $55 or more for $600 you spend.

many stores online have $0 shipping and $0 sales tax.

What are the best Gaming TV’s for 1080p ‘HD gaming’ on Xbox 360 and PS3?

Q. I want to buy a new HDTV for 1080p HD gaming on my Xbox 360 and PS3. I’m not sure what type of HDTV type is best gaming, whether it be plasma, LCD, LED, 3D etc.

Can someone please guide me on what type of HDTV works best for these systems for video games? Thanks!

A. There are specific types of HDTV's that work well for gaming and other types that don't.

First off, Wii does not support HD-Gaming. Only PS3 and Xbox 360 do.

Second, the most important feature needed for HDTV gaming is a high refresh rate to reduce lag and blur on fast moving objects. Older plasma models do not support this. You need to see the objects onscreen without any time-lapse with clarity or your gaming experience degrades severely.

The best gaming TV's are LCD/LED technology HDTV's due to higher refresh rates and lower lag rates. There are however a few exceptions in the Plasma category that were developed with more modern lag reduction features. So you will want to look at the AQUOS and VIERA Series HDTV's.

Read up more about these TV's at the link provided.

when your playing ps3 games honestly does which hdtv really matter?
Q. rathers its plasma lcd led or whatever brand will that greatly make a difference in picture quality?? if so how much will it be dramatically different?

A. It depends on how hardcore of a gamer you are really. When plasmas first came out they were death for gamers or even frequent sports viewers because of the threat of "burn-in"-when a repetitive image on the screen would remain "burned in" even after the picture would change, think health/ammo bars or the scoreboard in sports. Newer plasmas don't suffer from it to the same degree, but they still can have problems resulting from extended gaming sessions. If you play like 3 hours at a time you will be fine with a plasma. If you are more of an 8 hour marathoner you may want to try a different direction. Once your type is chosen just compare refresh rates (Htz) and contrast ratios in like priced and sized models. Also make sure it has all the inputs you may need. Multiple HDMI inputs, VGA if needed etc. Often you can get a larger screen size with a plasma per dollar.

why is my friend being charged so much on her credit card?

Q. i owe $239 on a lcd lg flat sceen tv. thats on layaway. my friend offered to pay it all off for me on her credit card(capital one). she just called me and told me that the credit card co. just told her that if she spends $2oo she has to pay back $295. is this true? or is she just rying to be a loan shark? thanks for all answers.

A. Layaway? A blast from the past. I didn't know people did that any more. I recently took home an HDTV at Best Buy for 0% interest until August 2011, but even if I only pay $100 per month, I will have it paid off long before then. And I have bought things at Circuit City too for 0% interest (maybe why they went belly up).

As mentioned, as part of new credit card regulations they may have to tell her what it would cost to pay it off if she only make minimum payments, since they are required to disclose that now on statements. That is because some people with no financial smarts didn't realize what it would actually cost them if they only make minimum payments, instead of paying it off as rapidly as possible.

I think it’s better to shift on LED. Are you agreed with my friends?
Q. College friends are saying to change my LCD and instead of that, I should buy LED. What can be the solution dear?

A. Get plasma, it destroys LED/LCD in picture quality easily and are cheaper. You can get a GT25 or ST30 3d HD panasonic plasma at 42 inches for 1000 bucks and make your friends jealous as hell.

Look at Cnet's reviews Google best 3DTV or HDTV of 2011 and the top 5 are plasma's. Maybe 1 LED is in 6th place but its 3 grand.

What kind of tv is better for watching tv and playing games?

Q. I'm looking to buy a tv soon, and I was wondering what kind is the best for watching tv and playing games.

Plasma
LED
LCD
DLP

Also when you specify what type, specify what brand you'd recommend.
Price = 1000 or less U.S. $
I was referring to DLP Tvs, not projectors.

A. LED would be best choice. They have great picture quality like plasma but less problem, no burn-in like LCD. For under $1000 I would recommend LG 42LE5400 42-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV with Internet Applications

What is the best 2013 HDTV on the market?
Q. I need to buy an at least 50'' TV for my new apartment.

I want to know which TV is objectively the best on the market right now. I've been looking at a couple Plasma, and LED/LCD screens, but I can't seem to pick which one is the best.

I can't stand 3D, so please avoid picking 3D TVs. In theory, the best HDTV could be 3D-capable, but I'm not willing to pay for 3D when I'm never going to use it.

Help me figure out which one is the BEST NON-3D HDTV right now on the market. As long as it doesn't have 3D, price is not an issue.

Thank you!

A. Samsung 46ES6800 3D LED Full HD Television is best Television in the year 2013.It's integrated features is also good.It is the latest model of Samsung. It is really great demand in this time.
features:-

1. 1920 x 1080 Pixel Resolution

How can I make my Samsung HDTV function as a monitor for my laptop pc?

Q. I have a dell latitude d620 with windows vista ultimate that I have connected to my Samsung 46" 1080p LCD HDTV via d-sub. On PC input, the TV says "mode not supported." PC option on menu for tv is grayed out. I cannot set PC screen resolution to 1920X1080--it reverts to another res. Any suggestions?

A. Are you using nvidia or ati?

alot of gpu companies have programs to deal with this...

How can I tell if my TV is truly 120Hz?
Q. I've got a Samsung 46' LCD HDTV 1080p, 120hz.
Somehow I'm having doubts that it is rather 60hz.
Is there a way to find out? <------
(No I will not use Blue-rays (Avatar) or anything of this sort to test this out)
I'm thought the manual might have some information but I can't seem to find anything related to Hz or whatever.

A. Go on the Samsung Web site and look at the specs for your TV model. They are also usually printed at the end of the user manual.

If your TV has an option to control "Auto Motion" that is usually a sign that you have 120 Hz

How do I connect my computer with my LCD HDTV using D-Sub cable?

Q. I have Compaq Presario V6000 and Samsung LN-S4695 LCD HDTV. I connected my PC to TV using D-Sub cable, and then I tried to view my PC through TV. Problem is my TV doesn't accept the connection (for some reason), and my TV displays "Not Supported Mode". I tried in various options by using FN key and F4 on keyboard. Please help me with this!

A. plug your computer into your normal monitor. change the resolution to 800 x 600. then make sure your refresh rate is 60 hertz. unplug the dsub connector from the back of your monitor. plug it into your lcd panel;s dsub connector. then adjust the resolution to the maximum allowed by your television. it should be 1920 x 1080. main thing is to make sure your refresh rate on your computer does not exceed the refresh rate on the monitor.

Can you tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz HDTVs?
Q. I'm looking to buy a new TV, around 40" 1080p for gaming, movies, and sports. It seems you can't buy a 120hz LCD HDTV for under $800 but is it really worth it?

Also, do you notice the difference much between the generic brands and higher end brands?

Thanks in advance to those giving good advice!

A. I believe you will see a big difference between 60 and 120 Hz on a 40" TV. Fast action, like sports, will look more fluid and smooth with a higher refresh rate.

No disrespect intended to Jason, but I think you're better off with a name-brand TV. I run a technical training facility. I have 3 32" LCD TVs with 60 Hz refresh rates side-by-side - Sony, Phillips, and Insignia. The Insignia looks great by itself, but turn on the Sony and Phillips, and the Insignia obviously has a lower picture quality than the others.

When you're in the store looking at TVs, bear in mind that they adjust picture elements to make the picture look the best it can in that environment. Ask the salesperson to adjust the picture back to factory default for each set you are considering. Then you can compare apples to apples. (The picture will be somewhat dull under the lighting in the store. It will look brighter in your living room.)
