What is the difference between CRT, DLP and LCD projection and what should I buy for best quality/value?

Q. I am looking to spend around $1000-$2000

A. LCD flatscreens are a lot lighter than Plasma TVs which weigh over a 100 lbs. Nevertheless, LCD flatscreens may have limited viewing angles and can suffer from dead pixels. While Plasma TVs are very suspectible to ghosting which is the result of having a fixed image inadvertently left on the screen for a long period of time. This fixed image will literally remain as a ghost image backgrounded to the screen. Usually the solution is to install a floating screen savers which is activated when the screen is not active.

And then there are rear projection LCD's and DLP's which use mirror panels and color wheels to filter and project a very large screen image [ranging from 65" to 72" diagonally measured]. The major concern is replacement cost of lamps which usually cost between $200 - $300 and last any number of hours depending on how the TV is shut off. Failing to properly shut down either LCD or DLP units which involves leaving on the main fan running for some 20 minutes -- will result in early failure of projection lamps. And there's the added concern regarding the use of "organic" material which make up the LCD panels/mirrors and usually causes the blue panel to fade over a period of time. So you may have to look forward to purchasing a new LCD projection TV. But getting back to DLP projection TV, there is the issue of viewers seeing the dreaded "rainbow effect" which are color flashes appear in highly contrasty dark scenes. Their sighting can cause headaches and is quite annoying to the viewers. And a possible cure is to choose a color wheel which operates faster than 3X; say 4X which seems to be the threshold speed that virtually eliminates the rainbow effect.

And finally, we should also consider the "ultimate, best" TV technology: "Front Projection."

You may well want to check out another technology: DLP front projection which produces a movie-like experience of HD television, DVDs, videos and games. And according to Consumer Reports, "front projection has a superior image -- better than CRT's, LCDs or plasma."

Check out the reviews for a "92" DLP generated [front projection] TV image at amazon.com by submitting the search query: "Infocus SP4805." There are any number of customer submitted pictures of projected HDTV image(s) along with other high-quality regular DVD-movie images projected on bare white wall surfaces. And the price for a refurbished ScreenPlay 4805 is about $550 with lamps costing around $330 which will last around 4,000 hours. Also check out various reviews at Consumer Reports [November 2005 & December 2006] in which front projection is rated "superior" to plasma, lcd.

Good luck!

What store or website can i go to to find a 16ft, 10 amp, 125 volt power cable?

Q. I have a samsung lcd hdtv and the original cable isn't long enough to do what i'd like to do. Also, the end that goes into the tv is 90° connection. (The connector is a 3-pin female)

A. Check Monoprice.com.

What is it you want to do anyways? If it is wall mount the TV, you cannot run the cord in the wall, if that is what you want to do. You need to install a receptacle behine the TV, wired with the same type of wiring your home is wired with.

What is the best time to be at Best Buy for black Friday?
Q. I'm going to best buy for the Sharp 42" class LCD HDTV, and it's cost is $200. But theres only a minimum of 10 per Best Buy store. The store opens at 12:00 midnight friday. What would be the best time just to get the tv.

A. This question has been asked alot lately. Probably will be asked more the closer to D-Day it comes. That is probably the most popular item so chances are people will try to camp over night for it. If you really want it and do not mind missing thanksgiving dinner, I would start checking your local Best Buy stores the night before to see if lines are building. If they are, get in line then. If not, I would get up early Thanksgiving morning and head out there to wait. You have to have a ticket to get the HDTV. So your waiting in line for them to bring you a ticket, once they run out of tickets, that's all she wrote.

What is the Samsung Touch of Color on the LCD TVs?

Q. I have the Samsung LN55C630 Series 6 55" Class ToC LCD 1080P HDTV but I don't notice the touch of color working. I read on a forum that it needs more light to work so I turned on more light but I still don't see it. Does it work only with sunlight reflections and is the Touch of Color a actual light or LED or just a special built in reflector?

A. "Touch of Color" just means that the TV has a reddish tinge on the unit. It is not a back-light, it is simply the color of the unit. And the red part is only about a quarter inch thick at the bottom of the unit just under the screen.

You will only notice it if light it directly on it, to see it just point a flashlight directly at the bottom of the unit. Take a look at this Tv http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31mvqA0KEUL.jpg It's a different model but its the same idea, there is a reddish tinge of color at the bottom of the unit.

best 52 or 55 inch tv for sports in regular definition?
Q. I have a 42 inch LG lcd tv and sports that arent in HD especially hockey look terrible.I am looking for the a 52 or 55 inch that doesnt look terrible when watching sports in regular def.Im not sure if LCD or LED-LCD is better.

A. LED will provide you better picture quality than LCD, deeper black.
Good brand and model that I would recommend is Samsung UN55C6500 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FTVs-Televisions-Audio-Video%2Fb%3Fie%3DUTF8%26node%3D979929011%26ref_%3Dsv_e_3&tag=computer0bd-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

or another good choice if you want for sport, not for gaming is Plasma. Plasma will provide you faster response, smoother motion which good for action sports. Panasonic or Samsung are good brand to get.

How much do you think HDTVs will drop in price by April 2010?

Q. We want a 42" Panasonic 1080p which is $700, but we can't afford that. That is why I want to know how much all HDTVs will drop in price by then. What do you think?

A. No one can be sure, but i would think with the new LED tvs, that LCD's and plasma tv prices are gonna sink like a rock. Samsung, LG, Vizio, (that i know of) already have LED tvs on the market. so i would imagine if you want a LCD, it would be cheaper in april and continually dropping in price.

Using a HDTV as a computer monitor?

Q. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sharp+-+42%26%2334%3B+Class+/+LCD+/+1080p+/+60Hz+/+HDTV/3142087.p?skuId=3142087&id=1218379763676

As a doorbuster special on Black Friday, that TV will be $199.99 and I figure I would be a moron if I didn't pick that up. I would be using it for a gaming console for awhile, which is no problem, but around income tax time I plan on building myself a gaming computer, and I figure that rather than buy an expensive monitor I would just use this TV as a monitor, assuming this TV has the capability.

Now I know nothing about what would be required to do this. What sort of cables/adapters should I look for, assuming they're necessary at all? Will I need to take the specs of my computer into consideration at all?
The TV does have 4 HDMI inputs. So is that all I would need? HDMI ran from my computer to the TV?

A. Look on the back of your graphics cards. Is it blue. if so that is vga. If it is a tan color that is dvi.
you would need to get a dvi-hdmi connector
like the one found here
http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?spcDB=10231&spcWord=Video+Cables+-+%3Cb%3EHDMI+%26+DVI%3C%2Fb%3E&keyword=dvi%20n%20hdmi

if you have a vga. I am not sure about the adapter. If you tv has a pc hook up look for what native resolution it supports

Tv picture quality question? ?
Q. Had a tv with great quality but I broke. Buying another one but I want to make sure it has at least the same quality

Broken tv: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sceptre-40-Class-LCD-1080p-60Hz-HDTV-X405BV-FHD3/16829822

Potential tv: http://www.walmart.com/ip/VIZIO-42-Class-LCD-1080p-60Hz-HDTV-E421VO/15992341

Are the picture qualities the same?

A. Rubbish. I wouldn't touch it with someone else's barge pole.

Please spend some time reading the questions on the TV section over a few days. You will find that "supermarket brand" television sets are always top of the list for reporting problems. This seems to be true whatever side of the Atlantic ocean you're on.

Don't be stingy. Spend a bit more and buy a proper manufacturer's brand like Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung or Sharp. You will get better quality picture and sound as well as a television that will last longer than two years.

Q. What is the difference between a Vizio LCD-HDTV with 720p and 1080p? I'm considering buying the 32 in with the 720p.

A. You'd have to sit 6 feet or less from your 32" TV to see the difference between 720 and 1080 in terms of resolution. See the following chart...

Q. Please clarify in each HDTV's respective category.

-Plasma TV
-LED TV
-LCD TV
-Smart TV
-TVs to come
-Best Design for a TV (Panel type is irrelevant)

Please provide detailed explanations.

A. I bought my LG 47 inch cinema 3D smart TV some weeks back. For me, I was considering attributes like price, design, picture quality and accurate colour to give the best credit for my TV. I guess other people may have a different opinion and may select a tv that may be different from mind but I prefer passive sets period.

Can LCD HDTV bought in US be used in Singapore or Malaysia?
Q. Thinking of buying a 32 or 37 in Samsung or others LCD HDTV in USA and taking it back to my Mum in Singapore, can this be used there if the power input is universal? I know in Singapore it is PAL but isn't there a setting in menu for either NTSC or Pal, by switching it over n will it work?

A. I don't think so. The actual electricity power may be different and the number of "cycles" per second, never mind the shape of the plug. Also there would be no warranty. Better you just buy her one when you get to Singapore.

How good is the Sharp Aquos compared to others?
Q. I just purchased a Sharp Aquos 32" LCD HDTV. In your opinion was this a good purchase? Anyone who has one tell me if they are good.

A. Hi,
I purchased a 46 in LCD Aquos 1080p the beginning of April. Have no issues whatsoever. I spent several months researching both brand names and technology. Knew nothing about aspect ratio, 480, 720 or 1080 lines of resolution. The Aquos came out pretty much at the top when finished. I found Sears to be about the best place to make the purchase. Prices ranged from $1,699.00 to $1,999.00 for the 46 inch.. The 32 in will be of course less. For Aquos owners, Sharp offers an on-line chat during business hours to help with any problems you might encounter. Plus, a 90 day extension in warranty is given when you register your product.
Buying a DVD player that up-convers to 1080 is a must. Good luck.

I would like to buy a 42-47 inches 3D tv?

Q. I don't know much about led, LCD or plasma. I just want have great 3d experience and it should have good picture quality. Can anyone suggest which tv should I buy?

Or should I wait till 2013 to buy one..?
P.s. I don't care about Internet and other fancy stuff

A. 3D technology has not been a big hit in the electronic industry. At this time there are only around 130 titles available in 3D blu ray disc movies and they are mainly animated movies from disney. Keep in mind that to watch in 3D you will need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player ot a game console, 3D blu ray disc movie or 3D video game and 3D glasses. You also have to sit in front of the tv to get the 3D effect. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on 3D HDTV, along with the pro and con of each technology. Panasonic Plasma is the only Plasma tv they recommend. They also have more pllasma tv being recommended than any type of tv from other manufacturer. Hope this will help you out.

What do the good people of Yahoo Answers think?

A. It is definitely something i wish I could afford...The only problem I see here is that the power supply might not be enough for both those video cards. The 680 needs at least 550w and the 640 needs at 350w so, you need a better power supply for it. Other than that..it's a really good computer with tons of stuff.

What does hdmi cable do for a 32 inch lcd hdtv?

Q. I just got a new panasonice lcd hdtv 32 inches 720p. What would the benifits of getting an hdmi cable be for watching dvds and cable

A. HDMI delivers uncompressed digital video and audio to the TV from another device. Since the audio and video will be kept digital the whole way, this should produce the best picture the device (cable box, DVD player, etc.) is capable of making.

Remember, even though the connection is HDMI, if the video is not HD to begin with and the device is not HD, you still won't get HD. Everything has to be HD from start to finish if you want an HD picture.

What is the difference between Olevia HDTV models?
Q. I am looking for an Olevia LCD HDTV 32" with the speakers on the bottom TV (as opposed to the sides). The different models are 232T, 332H, 532H.

1) What's the difference? Their website doesn't say.

2) Which models are newer? I would assume the 5 Series is newest, but I heard the 2 Series is the newest...

A. With Olevia the higher the number means higher the features. the ones that don't have a astc tuner or HDMi usually start with 2.

Can I use my xbox360 or blueray player to convert my TV to a remote monitor for my computer?

Q. I have a samsung blueray player, and xbox 360, Samsung LCD 630 55", a Samsung LAN adapter, and a 2wired network(wired/wireless both). Is there anyway to set up my TV as a remote screen for my computer?

A. No. Not without a wireless VGA or WHDMI extender of some kind. And those things are NOT cheap. We are talking $200 for the cheapest VGA wireless extender set.

A LAN network does not have the necessary bandwidth to transmit high-resolution computer monitor video. The best home routers might do 1 gigabit (which is roughly 12.5 megabytes / sec). A DVI connection does 8 gigabytes/ sec in comparison.

Frankly, connecting your computer to your HDTV using a $10 VGA, DVI or HDMI cable is FAR more cost-effective.

What is the best soundbar in the less than 300 dollar range?
Q. I have a Hisense 55" LCD TV. It is a good tv for what I paid, but the sound is atrocious! Does anyone know of a reasonably priced soundbar that works well? An ipod dock or bluetooth would be a definite plus. I have found various options on Amazon and I am just trying to whittle it down to the best ones. Thank you for any help.

A. Some things to be careful of:

Many soundbars accept left/right RCA jacks. Your HDTV probably has a Optical output. These are NOT compatible with each other. Make sure to only buy a soundbar that accepts optical.

For speakers - always buy speakers from a company that makes speakers as their main business. This means Energy, Polk, Klipsch, Boston, etc. Avoid Samsung, Philips, Sony, etc. These companies make some good items, but speaker are not their strengths.

The better sound bars have a external subwoofer. The small speakers in a soundbar cannot produce BASS. If you like action/adventure shows or movies, consider getting a unit with a external subwoofer.

They do make ones with wireless subwoofers but running an RCA cable is cheaper and the system tends to cost less. Go for one of these if you can afford it.

Plasma vs LED, which is better for watching HDTV especially sports?

Q. I will be looking to get a 50-60 inch HDTV sometime next year and was wondering which technology is better for watching sports in HD, and HDTV in general? Plasma seems a lot cheaper and from what I've read has better picture quality but I heard again LED might be better for sports/hdtv. Which is the way to go?

A. Plasma...due to it's very wide viewing angles, and fast response time, giving you no blur on fast action.. (no refresh rates needed..) Long life, just like LCD/LED..

What is the best LED television for people on a budget?
Q. I am moving in with my best friend who only has an old, 42 inch television. We are looking for a flat screen tv, preferably LED, must be in the forty inch range and have 1080 resolution. I have found a few tvs like this in the four hundred dollar range, but I know nothing about tvs. What is the best tv fitting these parameters in the four hundred dollar range?

A. LG 42LV3500 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LED HDTV is replacing my LG 37 in LCD television, my 37 inch was working perfectly but decided to up grade to full HD and the LED model, I have to say the picture color and clarity is stunning to me, minor adjustments were to make the auto picture dimming set to medium, and the usual detailing of the picture but I have all my components linked up via HDMI and I am really impressed, one feature I like is the live scan, with this turned on you can operate the television or the blue ray and the TV knows how and what to change to and back to automatically, pretty cool feature In my estimation you can not go wrong with LG its kind of a thing of either you like there products or not, I have several appliances that are LG and have never had an issue with anything, I am expecting many years of fine television viewing.

What's the difference between an Hd ready tv and an actual hdtv ?? also which is better of the two the lcd

Q. which is better that comes with those two, the lcd hdtv or the lcd hd ready tv? IM comfused and dont want to waste my money. Also if I were to buy a xbox 360 what dpi do i need for it? and how would i find it on the advertisement or in the store?

A. For an Xbox 360, the best resolution is 1080p, so an HDTV that offers this resolution will be what you want. An HDTV-Ready television does not have a built-in HD receiver, while an HDTV does. Look at the picture quality of different sets and determine the best one for your needs -and voila!

Looking to buy a lcd HDTV, wondering which ones are good?
Q. I am looking to buy a lcd hdtv and wanted to hear if anyone had suggestions for 46-52 inch. I like to play xbox 360, and the previous hdtv had a small but noticeable lag from when a button is pressed to when it shows up on the tv. Any suggestions?

A. If you can afford I would recommend Samsung LN52B750 52-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LCD HDTV or Samsung LN46B750 46-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LCD HDTV. Great picture with 150,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Smooth motion with 240Hz and fast 2ms response time

Anyone able to give me some details on the 82" Mits DLP models?

Q. Basically the situation im in is this, im looking to upgrade but im curious if its a "must" to have the 740 or 840 model over the 738. How much different are the screens in terms of how they look, or are the screens comparable and the newer models simply have more bells and whistles?

Anyone that owns a 2010 model have a chance to compare it with the 2011 models?

Thanks in advance.

A. I will tell you - I am not a fan of Mitsubishi brand these days.

When DLP came out - Mitsubishi was charging $9999 for their first model.

When HDTV came out - Mitsubishi televisions refused to accept 720 signals.

When the HDTV spec was still being debated, Mitsubishi came out with the 'Promise' program where they said they would upgrade any Mitsubishi TV to keep it current with changes to the antenna or signaling standard. Then they weezled out of fixing technical problems with their first-gen televisions because they claimed it was not covered under 'the promise' program.

So - look at the 70 inch Sharp Aqous LCD televisions - a better company in my opinion.

Does it matter if a small LCD TV is not HD ready?
Q. I have seen a nice Sony 15" LCD Tv with Freeview built in. However it says it is not HD ready. Does this matter for the purposes of a 15-incher? We go digital in 2011 in our area. Grateful for any advice.

A. if your tv is not HD ready, then you won't see High Definition pictures. This has nothing to do with the conversion from analog to digital local broadcasts. Yes, typically HD tvs are also capable of receiving local digital channels, but this is totally separate from High Definition technology.

If, however, you are referring to digital signals (DTV), the FCC is requiring local broadcasters to convert from analog to digital by 2/17/2009 (for all "full power" stations).

If you receive local channels over UHF/VHF local antenna, you will need to get an digital to analog converter that goes between you antenna and tv. If you have a cable box or satellite decoder, you don't have to worry, as they will convert the signal at their source for you. Also, if you replace this TV with one capable of receiving digital signals before next year, you will not need the converter.

After this date, if you have the proper TV or converter, you will be able to see the digital signals in normal (not HD) format. HD TVs that are capable of both digital TV and HDTV will receive both signals as sent by your local TV broadcaster. Those not in HD format will be digital but in conventional format.

If you need a converter, you can get a voucher to get one for free. See http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html for more information or see https://www.dtv2009.gov/ to apply for a coupon for a free converter.

PS Our HD/DTV has incredible local channels off our local antenna, better than DirecTV provides off the dish. And I am not about to pay that extra for only a few channels on the dish. You have to reprogram the channels on your TV to remove the analog signals and accept the digital ones, but the picture is so much better, I find myself not watching overpriced satellite tv so much and might even dump it unless they lower their prices.

I plan on buying a Insignia® - 42" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV , I wanted to know if this will be to big?

Q. Will this TV be to big for my bedroom? I made a guess measurement and I will be sitting at least 7-8ft away from the TV. I know the recommended is 10ft but 7 or 8ft is pretty close to 10ft. Thanks

A. I don't know who told you that 10ft was the recommended seating distance but that 42" 1080p TV is perfect for your seating distance!

The recommended seating distance for a 42" 1080p TV is between 6ft to 8ft! The distance for a 42" 720p TV is between 8ft to 12ft! Maybe that's were the mix up came from.

Just FYI...if you plan to buy that TV, get an extended warranty with it! Insignia is not a very reliable brand of TV. They have problems with their power supply boards and inverter boards! I recommend LCD brands like Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp or Toshiba!

Hope this helps!

What is the best HDTV of 2012 so far?

I guess other people may have a different opinion and may select a tv that may be different from mind but I prefer passive sets period.

what company manufactures the proscan 19" wide screen digital led tv model pledv1948a?

Q.

A. I copied and pasted this from Wikipedia about Proscan

Proscan is one of the American brand divisions of Thomson Consumer Electronics, with products competing with higher-end electronics. The ProScan name is owned by RCA. The company created television and video products to compete with Sony's Trinitron XBR, Pioneer's Elite, and other electronics brand lines. Competition is focused mainly on price to size ratio. The tagline for ProScan is "So advanced, yet so simple."
The Proscan brand superseded the RCA Dimensia line in the early 1990s after the purchase of RCA by General Electric and lasted into the early 2000s until it was dropped for the current RCA Scenium brand. Thomson SA has never manufactured or distributed televisions in the United States labeled Thomson. In 2006, Thomson Consumer Electronics licensed the Proscan name to ON Corporation, although they retain ownership of the name and logotype. On Corporation sold ProScan to Curtis International Ltd. in 2011. ProScan is now owned by Curtis International Ltd..
The company now specializes in television, focusing mostly on HDTV LCD, LED and plasma televisions. It also offers home theater systems and a few televisions.

What are the best things to build a home cinema in a little room and which HDTV should I choose???

Q. ****---->CHOSEN AT AMAZON

What HDTV 1080p should I choose between these ones???

+++Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color---$1,759.98
+++Samsung LN46A750 46-Inch 1080p DLNA LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color---$1,925.00
+++Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-46XBR4 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV---$2,499.88
+++Philips 42PFL5603D/27 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV---$1,127.69

I personally like all but specially the sony and samsung DLNA but I must choose the best.I have budget for all.

Now another question:
What should things should I buy to get a full home cinema for a little dining room???I can afford like anything but it must be resonable and must have good quality.
I need a sound system, something to put on the HDTV and any other needed accessory.

3rd question: What do you recommend to me for the xbox 360 games?I've selected alot of games. But I must be sure what I get.

Thank you!
Thanks for your fast answer. But I need to tell you more things about me...Like I'm gamer totally and know almost all games.I already selected like 50-60 games and I'm PC expert.I wanted to know about some games that are not too popular or known so well but that deliver a gaming experience. And about the TV I have place for it but I must know which delivers the best quality.
Thanks!

A. Well if it is small room, get the smaller size screen, as far as Home Theatre, get a 5.1 digital surround system, and a Blu_ray (PS3), that supports HDMI. Get quality cables, there is no point in getting good equipment if the cables you use a junk. Good Surround systems are made by Onkyo, Yamaha, or a high end SONY.

I cannot advise you on video games becasue I have no idea which ones you like? Shooters, COD4, Gears, Halo. Racers PGR4, Forza 2, maybe Grid. RPG Mass effect, Oblivion, Lost odyssey. Adventure, Crackdown, Ninja Gaiden.....The list goes on and on.

How can I tell if my TV is truly 120Hz?

Q. I've got a Samsung 46' LCD HDTV 1080p, 120hz.
Somehow I'm having doubts that it is rather 60hz.
Is there a way to find out? <------
(No I will not use Blue-rays (Avatar) or anything of this sort to test this out)
I'm thought the manual might have some information but I can't seem to find anything related to Hz or whatever.

A. Go on the Samsung Web site and look at the specs for your TV model. They are also usually printed at the end of the user manual.

If your TV has an option to control "Auto Motion" that is usually a sign that you have 120 Hz

Is it normal to see some white back light on LCD tvs during black background moments?
Q. Just purchased a Sony 40" LCD, 120 hz, HDTV/1080p TV. And my only gripe is when my screen is showing a black background, you can see the areas of the screen where the whiter areas from the backlight show. It's barely noticeable, but I wanted to make sure it's a fairly normal thing w LCD tvs?

A. It's a flaw of LCD TV and yes it's normal. The best LCD/LED TVs can keep this down, or make it harder to detect. Something to remember when people are shouting that LCD is better than plasma.

Would it be a good deal to get a store display-stand 52 inch LCD HDTV in this price range?

Q. Ok, I'm thinking on buying a store display tv(checking that it works first, of course), a 52 inch lcd HDTV, brand is sharp.

The price range is 700-900.

Is that a good deal with today's market?
With regards to lag, it has 4ms response time.

A. its pretty good but be sure to take a look at the lag time. the higher the lag time the more blur you will experience.

What do you think of the brand LG when it comes to lcd hdtv's?
Q. Im looking to purchaseing a 26" LCD HDTV, but i really dont know what brand to purchase. I looked at a LG and noticed the picture quality looked pretty good. It had good color, but dont know if its a good brand over all.

A. the sd picture on your 26" will look good, maybe a little foggy. Use the S-video input for the best results. I would avoid the HD programming option on a set that small because the HD resolution doesn't really shine until a 40" screen but that's with my eyes your results may vary

What are the best Gaming TV’s for 1080p ‘HD gaming’ on Xbox 360 and PS3?

Q. I want to buy a new HDTV for 1080p HD gaming on my Xbox 360 and PS3. I’m not sure what type of HDTV type is best gaming, whether it be plasma, LCD, LED, 3D etc.

Can someone please guide me on what type of HDTV works best for these systems for video games? Thanks!

A. There are specific types of HDTV's that work well for gaming and other types that don't.

First off, Wii does not support HD-Gaming. Only PS3 and Xbox 360 do.

Second, the most important feature needed for HDTV gaming is a high refresh rate to reduce lag and blur on fast moving objects. Older plasma models do not support this. You need to see the objects onscreen without any time-lapse with clarity or your gaming experience degrades severely.

The best gaming TV's are LCD/LED technology HDTV's due to higher refresh rates and lower lag rates. There are however a few exceptions in the Plasma category that were developed with more modern lag reduction features. So you will want to look at the AQUOS and VIERA Series HDTV's.

Read up more about these TV's at the link provided.

What is the difference between LCD and LED television set? Which one has beeter quality and options?
Q. I need to change my TV and want to have more information about LCD and LED considering the difference between them. I really need to know which one has a better quality and more options.

A. I would definitely NOT recommend "buying the TV that looks best for you" because in most stores the lighting is so unlike what you're seeing at home and it makes the sets with great black level details like the Panasonic Viera plasma's, look not so different from the severaly underperforming in house brands like Insignia, Dynex, etc.

The best sets on the market are still plasma's and at those prices it's not surprising.

http://hdguru.com/how-retailers-use-lighting-to-confuse-hdtv-buyers/467

http://hdguru.com/the-new-king-of-hdtv-displays-panasonics-tc-p54v10-reviewed/458/

Some of the new LED sets are not true LED sets like the Sony XBR8 and Samsung 950 series. However despite the great blacks, motion reoslution and ANSI ratings these sets have they still suffer a LOT with viewing angle and blacks get washed out quickly.

Do 60hz LCDs lag in sports even on sport mode?
Q. I am going to buy a new tv a sony bravia, it is 60hz lcd and i hear it will lag in sports and games. it has modes for games and sports does this make a difference to the lagging
thnx

A. yes it does lag due to slow response times, you will
see smearing when a football player runs for instance.
The 120hz LCD's or 240hz LCD's cost more but with
the 120hz/240hz the refresh rate is increased and also
you should look for a LCD with a response time of 4ms
or less. A 120hz/240hz LCD with a response time of
4ms or less would be a higher end but will combat and
help reduce a lot of the blur issues that standard LCD's
suffer from. A plasma has 600hz, with 0.001ms response
times and mega contrasts out the box which is why they
are recommended for sports.

I would recommend these TV's if you are on a budget,
I will add 42-50 inch models.

How come the 42 inch Samsung plasma TV has a faster response time than my 32 inch LCD HDTV from Insignia?

Q. the 42 inch TV is in the living room and my LCD HDTV is in my room.

A. Plasma TV's have a normally fast response time, whereas LCD or LED have a slow response time, requiring 120 to 240 hz. refresh rates to help the lag/blur on fast motion.. Plasma is great for sports, gaming, and an excellent 'way off to the sides' viewing angle with no picture change.! Try that on your LCD/LED TV..!!

How to find out if my tv is LCD or Plasma?
Q. So I bought this TV 42' SONY KDL-42EX44X. All my friends now asking me what is this LCD or PLASMA and i have no idea my self what is this.

A. It is an LED edge lit LCD HDTV. Sony hasn't made plasma display units for many years now.
