How good is the Sharp Aquos compared to others?
Q. I just purchased a Sharp Aquos 32" LCD HDTV. In your opinion was this a good purchase? Anyone who has one tell me if they are good.

A. Hi,
I purchased a 46 in LCD Aquos 1080p the beginning of April. Have no issues whatsoever. I spent several months researching both brand names and technology. Knew nothing about aspect ratio, 480, 720 or 1080 lines of resolution. The Aquos came out pretty much at the top when finished. I found Sears to be about the best place to make the purchase. Prices ranged from $1,699.00 to $1,999.00 for the 46 inch.. The 32 in will be of course less. For Aquos owners, Sharp offers an on-line chat during business hours to help with any problems you might encounter. Plus, a 90 day extension in warranty is given when you register your product.
Buying a DVD player that up-convers to 1080 is a must. Good luck.

How can you replace a broken LCD screen in a Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV?

Q. My sister in law left a broken Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. I looked online but I can't seem to find any place where I can find just the screen for replacement. Does anyone know where I can buy just the screen or how to fix it?

A. you need SKILLS and tools to replace the LCD DISPLAY PANEL.
However , if you known the PARTS COST , you will never want to replace it, and buy an new TV for sure.
New LCD display panel cost about 65 % of same screen size of new TV. + shipping and services charge to replace the panel . total is around 80 + % of new LCD TV.
will you still want to buy the display panel ?
Sylvania is handle by Funai same as Philips Brand TV sold in USA. the 42 inc display panel is made by Taiwan Che-Mei. if you comfortable with the prices. contact Funai USA.

Can my lcd hdtv survive out in my shed over the winter?
Q. I want to put my lcd hdtv out in my shed. I want to watch tv out there when i work on my snowmobile, but im not sure if the tv will be ok if left out there. I will heat the shed when out there, but not when im out there. The shed is fully weaterproof, but will still reach extreamly low temperatures.

A. The lowest of the low temperatures I saw (and this is brand, model and size dependent) was -22 degrees Fahrenheit. I wouldn't do it! Put a CRT out there, they can handle it, and if it dies....oh well. Don't hurt your HDTV if it means that much to you!

I'm trying to decide between several 65-inch televisions?

Q. I'm trying to decide between several 65-inch televisions: the latest Pioneer plasma, the Samsung LCD, the Sony LCD and the Sharp Aquos. I am leaning towards the plasma based on the reviews but was wondering if there were any strong opinions against it.

A. If you restrict yourself to 65-inch class flat panel displays then you currently have a very limited selection: no LED-backlit LCD TV’s and no Pioneer plasma displays.

Plasma display technology is far from being “phased-out” and at least three major CE manufacturers continue to offer plasma displays: Matsushita (Panasonic), Samsung and LG. Plasma displays consistently remain at or near the top of the performance list from nearly every source of reputable TV reviews (though local-dimming LED-backlit LCD TV’s are beginning to challenge the performance areas—other than viewing angle—where emissive displays such as PDP’s have traditionally excelled.)

At this point in time the Panasonic V Series plasma displays offer the best value in terms of initial cost versus overall picture quality, esp. where more than one or two people are expected to be viewing the screen at one time. For me the choice between a CCFL-backlit LCD TV and any of the Samsung PNB850/860 series, Panasonic V series or Pioneer KURO plasma displays is easy - I overwhelmingly prefer the picture quality of plasma; but I also ensure that the room is always dark when viewing movies and certain TV programs.

As good as the latest LED-backlit LCD TV’s are, particularly the top-of-the-line Samsung models, and as good as the Panasonic V10 series are, the Pioneer KURO and Elite KURO plasma TV’s and monitors continue to remain the reference standard against which all top performing consumer displays are being compared.

In the process of choosing a new fixed-pixel flat panel display, irrespective of the display technology, it is very important that you take into consideration the performance of the image and video processing of the flat-panel TV’s in which you’re interested, esp. if you regularly watch standard definition video content such as DVD-Video as well as SD programming from Cable TV, DBS and/or OTA.

One final word of advice: you should make every effort to visit your local dealers and thoroughly and carefully evaluate each of the displays which interest you, preferably under viewing conditions that are (adjusted to be) similar to yours.

how much does it cost to opeate a flat screen TV?
Q. my dad said we cant afford to buy a flat screen TV because it uses up too much electricity and it will double the electric bill. is this true?
What kind of flat screen TV should we look for if we don't want to double our electric bill? We do want High Definition picture though and we are thinking of around 42 inches that can be mounted on a wall.

A. Your dad is being overzealous!

Obviously if you go from a 30" CRT TV to a 65" Plasma TV, you're going to see a noticeable rise in your electric bill! But it's not going to be enough to break your dad's wallet!

However, 42" LCD and Plasma TV are very common size for HDTVs. And most are energy star rated so you don't have to worry about a significant rise in your electric bill! If there is any rise at all, you probably won't notice it unless you're looking for it!

This is a TV that i recommend a lot because it's made by the most reliable brand of HDTVs i've ever seen, as well as it's an affordable TV that provides an outstanding picture quality! It's one of the most energy efficient Plasma models made too!

Panasonic 42" 1080p(TC-P42U1): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+42%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9244301.p?id=1218066284214&skuId=9244301

It's on-mode average energy consumption is rated at 142w. That'll cost about $2.76 a month at the national average of 12cents per kilowatt hour(some states vary)!

What's the difference between an LCD and an LED HDTV?

Q. I'm looking to purchase an HDTV and was wondering the difference between the two types. Is it worth is to spend the extra money for LED? How much better is the performance of an LED?

A. LED and LCD HDTVs are actually both LCD. The only difference is when the HDTV says it's LED, it's actually referring to the type of backlighting. LEDs use light emitting diodes which turn on and off extremely fast. This helps to make dynamic contrast possible (black scenes are darker, white scenes are brighter). LCDs use fluorescent tubes that are not so fast. Performance wise, picture quality varies greatly between manufacturers in regards to both technology. Before making a purchase, do your homework and read up on specs and reviews on websites like http://www.cnet.com and http://www.specsandreviews.com

How do I choose the right LCD TV?
Q. I am planning to buy a 32" or 37" LCD TV (HDTV), but I am not sure about the best specs. Do you have any brand preferences?
I would like to use the TV occasionally to play games, like with pS2 and XBOX 360/

A. If you're going to be playing video games on it, I don't recommend getting a LCD TV. LCD TV's still aren't quite as good as .. well, anything else in terms of refresh rates. Refresh rates matter anytime fast movements take place (such as video games). The higher the refresh rate, the higher the chance of blurring. Many people don't notice it, but unfortunately I'm not one of those people and it bugs the heck out of me. I was in China/Japan/Taiwan last month and I've seen the latest models of televisions. LCD has certainly come a long way, but it's still not as good as plasma tv's were two years ago. The higher end LCD TVs that don't have as much of a blurring issue but is also as expensive as a car. LCD has it's pluses, higher resolution for example ... but I personally think it stinks for gaming. That's my opinion of course, so I urge you to check out sports on a LCD TV and see if the blurring bothers you.

Here are some websites to help you out.

http://www.cnet.com.au/tvs/0,239035250,240036500,00.htm
"Plasma pundits will also tell you that some LCD screens have a tendency to blur images, particularly during fast moving scenes in movies or in sports. While that was true for older generation LCD screens, newer models have improved significantly - so much so that the differences in performance between LCDs and plasmas in this regard is almost negligible (here's a tip -- if you're shopping for LCDs, check the refresh rate. The lower it is, the better the image quality in fast moving scenes)."

http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv-plasmavslcd.shtml
"While the "response time" of LCD TVs has markedly improved in the last couple of years, they still suffer from a slight "trailer" effect, where the individual pixels are just slightly out of step with the image on the screen. During fast moving sports scenes, the most discerning eyes can detect this slight motion response lag."

-----------------------------------
The other answerer was commenting on how the life of a plasma TV is poor. That's simply not true anymore. Do your own research on that matter, this hasn't been an issue for quite some time now. Don't believe what he says about being an idiot for buying a plasma. People who say that can't see the difference in image quality, perhaps their attention to detail is lacking .. who knows. He has very strong opinions towards plasma tvs and hybrid cars, those are exactly the wrong people to listen to. Keep an open mind. For the record, I have a HDTV CRT, Plasma TV, and three LCD TVs (all larger than 32'') .. they all have their purpose. The LCD TVs are great for connecting to computers, they have high resolutions. For watching TV, nothing beats CRT and Plasma... yet.

How many electronics can I plug into one wall outlet?

Q. I have an extension cord plugged into the wall outlet. On the extension cord, I have a cable box, a blu-ray player, and a mini fridge plugged into it. In the other plug on the wall outlet, I have my 40 inch LCD HDTV plugged in. Is that okay, and safe to do? Also, if I plug the blu-ray player into the back of my cable box and plug in an XBox 360 in the place of the blu-ray player on the extension cord, would that be okay?

A. If you have a !0A line, that gives you about $1000 W total. With a 15A line, it gives you about 1600 Watts total - at the SAME time. If you pull more, the breaker will pop.

Does a radio do any harm to a television like magnets do?
Q. I just bought a Samsung 40 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, and I have a radio right next to the TV. I'm just being really cautious, because it was a really expensive TV, and I don't want anything to hurt it.

A. According to the first source link I posted below,
"One other advantage — especially for home theater fans — is that flat-panel TVs aren't affected by the magnets of nearby unshielded speakers. You can't have picture tube distortion if there is no tube! "

According to the second source link I posted below,
"LCD displays do not use electron beams, as conventional TVs do. They are immune to the effects of magnetic fields. Components such as loudspeakers that contain strong magnets can be placed close to the TV unit."

The reason for this has to do with magnetic fields causing electron beams to deflect. In the old Cathrod Ray Tube (CRT) television, the cathodes emit electronic beams that travel inside the vacuum of the CRT until they hit the backside of the screen where they give off light energy. They have to be deflected precisely to produce the proper colors. However, nearby magnetic fields can cause these beams to slightly change from their normal paths to produce color distortion. In the newer LCD and Plasma televisions, there are no electronic beams flowing through a tube to deflect.

If you place a speaker near a CRT television, you will notice color distortion on the screen closest to the speaker. When you place a speaker near a LCD or Plasma television, do you see any color distortion on the screen closest to the speaker? You shouldn't.

where can i find an inexpencive 32 inch lcd hdtv?

Q. i am looking for a 32 inch lcd hdtv for under $450.00 dollars, any links or suggestions?

A. I haven't been able to find one for under $450. The cheapest that I could find online and locally was at Walmart. They had a Samsung 32" LCD HDTV for $569.98 plus tax. I bought mine last weekend and it is a great tv! Our closest Walmart was actually more expensive than the Walmart across town, so make sure you price check any close Walmarts to get the best deal.

How do i get a pc screen onto a samsung series 7 46 inch screen?

Q. what kind of cord do i need for it to go to my hp pavilion f1903 to my samsung 46 inch lcd tv. if some on could give me a name of cord and maby a pic t thanks will be best anser

A. If your Samsung LCD HDTV has a 15-pin Dsub VGA port, then you simply use a standard VGA monitor cable to connect it to your HP computer.

I doubt your HP has a DVI port (most HP computers tend to use onboard graphics with VGA only), but if it does, you can use a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect to one of the HDTV's HDMI ports. This is better because DVI / HDMI uses a digital video signal. (VGA is analog.)

How long is the power cord for the Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 42XV545U HDTV?

Q. I want to see what options I will have for placement.

A. Although this is a brand new LCD without many if any specific public reviews, I went for the Toshiba for a number of reasons including perceived product reliability, feature set and value for money. I actively compared the Sony 40Z4100 and Samsung LNT750 which have both been on the market for several months, are highly rated to the Toshiba 46 (not 42) inch Regza XV545U. At the end of the day the Toshiba had it all even though I read some comments about lower contrast on other models I can tell you that I perceive no real issues even though the unit is installed in a very dark room. I have not calibrated the set but DVDs look great in cinema mode, even VCR tapes are acceptable. The SRT seems to be a real bonus and I will NOT buy a Blu-Ray player as a result. Set-up was extremely easy and I was able to do it all by my lonesome, essentially plug and play into a full A/V system, the remote is programmable for all my gizmos from a B&K AVR through Sony DvD and SAT box. You get the added bennies of 5:5 pull down and 120 hz. DVDs really look goood with no judder that I could tell. One gripe: the remote does not have an illumination button which would be nice in a dark environment. I ruled out the Sony because of some bad personal Sony product experiences including TVs. Although I always liked what I consider a very natural Sony picture image I've read about some backlighting and clouding issues on the LCDs and you pay the Sony premium price. As for the Samsung, I did not want a glossy screen due to too much glare and what i can only say are horror stories I read about customer service same with Sony (hopefully not with Toshiba).

I got the set from JandR. They were very accomodating and very communicative throughout the order process. They delayed my shipment at my request and held as well as improved the price up to the time of shipment. The box shipped UPS and arrived without damage on the day promised with some added packaging inside. I would definitely buy again from them.

Sitting 14 feet away from a 32 inch LCD HDTV?

Q. I was planning on getting a 32 inch LCD HDTV but I read from amazing that I shouldn't be sitting more than 8 feet away in that case. Will there be a noticeable difference if I sit 14 feet away?

A. Its just like any other TV you may have owned or used in your lifetime. There is going to be a sweet spot in viewing distance. If you sit to close it might hurt your eyes. If you sit too far back you might lose a bit of the details on the screen. That's about it.

32" would have an optimal viewing distance more in the 4-6 feet kind of range. So in watching it from 14 feet away, you likely will not see some of the finer details in the programming you watch. But that doesn't mean you still won't see and enjoy the programming. I think the biggest impact it might have is for sports and trying to follow a small object (puck, golf ball, etc.). But most news and like drama or comedy TV shows should be fine. Even movies off of BluRay or such would be fine, they just won't be "optimal" (but optimal is a subjective thing anyway).

You didn't mention why you're going at 32" though? Are you looking at that size cause of budget or cause of restrictions of how physically big the TV can be in the spot you're putting it. If its physical size and you're stuck, well not much you can do. If its budget, I would honestly consider a 42" 720p Plasma. You can pick up one of those without going a lot higher than a good 32" would cost you.

A good quality 32" set is likely going to float you in around $400, maybe a bit less. A 42" Plasma from ABC Warehouse can be had for $539 (I'd recommend the Panasonic one). Right now there are 3 42" 720p Plasmas on sale at ABC Warehouse for $539. So yes it is definitely more than a 32" set, but 42" isn't completely unattainable I would think. And 720p is all you need at 42", especially at 14 feet back. If you can manage that, I think it would give you a bit better result.

How do I fix my Vista display for my older games?
Q. I just got a newer computer (running vista) and hooked it up to my 32" LCD HDTV. Now the display works great and the resolution is perfect, however when I tried to load some of my older games (i.e. Warcraft II, Starcraft) the program shrinks up to the top corner of my screen and the rest goes blank. Now I have tried to change my resolution to the very lowest ( 800x600) but then it cuts off some of the game screen. Can anybody help me?

A. Best guess would be mess around with the HDMI options in the Control Panel.

What sort of power cord, or power supply is needed for a Seiki SC323FI model 32" LCD HDTV?

Q. My roommate bought a Seiki LCD HDTV and managed to lose the power cord. Could anyone tell me what sort of power supply I'd need to get the TV powered up? If possible could I also get a link to a site that sells the power supply and maybe a chain of stores that should sell it. Thanks in advance.

A. You don't need a power supply, just a power cord. See the first link below for one of the most common universal power cords--used extensively in many types of electronic equipment. If the jack on the back of the Seiki looks like it will match the female connector on that cord, you can buy one at any local TV store, Radio Shack, on-line, etc.

If that's not it, look for a match to your set's power connector at the second link. If they don't have it, it's probably not to be found.

How well does a lcd hdtv work as a computer monitor?
Q. A lcd hdtv i am buying has a computer input. Will it look just as good as my computer monitor? it would save me some space.

A. It may depend on the make, but it will work well as a computer monitor.

I got my laptop hooked up to my LCD TV using an inexpensive VGA cable (same as the cable from your CPU to the computer monitor) to view my jpeg digital pictures. I could use the mouse to find my photo directories, veiw photos as a slide, etc.

When I hooked up the cable, I had the option of using the TV as the computer monitor or have both the laptop screen and the TV display on.

How is the Memorex 32" LCD HDTV on the electricity? How much higher compare to the regular 32" tube TV's?
Q. To specifiy, the above question, how is the memorex 32" LCD on the electric bill without cable hookup? How much of a difference is it compared to a regular 32" in electric with the usage of both being on for about 8 hours?

A. Roughly speaking you can expect to save 25%-50% on your energy cost. A 32" LCD draws about 160 W, while a 32" CRT is closer to 240 W. At 8 hours per day, you'd use it almost 3,000 hours per year. The 80W difference would be about 1/3 less or a reduction of 80 Kilowatts per year.

anyone have a subscription to Consumer Reports?

Q. I carried a subscription for several years. At the end of last year I decided not to renew. I never got much use from it. Now I'm looking to buy a new television and I wish to know the top recommended in the 52 - 55" size range, but I don't want to buy another subscription. If you are current, please advise.

A. The last major test/review of TVs was in the March 2010 issue. Here are the top ratings:

LCD, 52 - 55 inches

1. LG 55LH90 full-matrix LED $2500
2. Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR10 edge-lit LED $4000
3. Toshiba Regza 55ZV650U CCFL LCD $2000
(15 total sets in the list.)

PLAZMA 50-55 inches

1. Samsung PN58B650 $1950
2. Panasonic Viera TC-P54Z1 $4000 (see note)
3. Panasonic Viera TC-P54V10 $2400
(9 sets in the list)

Note: #2 Panasonic plasma has a separate receiver console that connects to the display via a wireless link.

It should be noted that these tests were conducted about 5 - 6 months ago. Prices have probably come down since then and newer models may be out that are superior to one or more of these.

What tech is best for tvs today for the price: Plasma, LCD, etc?
Q. We currently have a Samsung 42" LCD that has been a problem so far. We have owned it for 5 years and have replaced the bulb once already - now it is out again. Looking to buy new TV, but am not sure about what to buy: Heard Plasma is the way to go, but want the newest tech too (smart, LCD, ETC)....any advice?

A. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tv, along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that Panasonic has more Plasma tv being recommended than any type of tv from other manufacturer. Panasonic was also named the best tv for 2010, VT series a plasma tv, while 2009 belong to Pioneer Elite KURO. Pioneer stopped producing Plasma tv in 2010 and those engineers are now working for Panasonic which reflect the new series of Plasma tv (GT and VT series with infinity black). I still have my first Plasma tv purchased in 2002, a Pioneer model 4330, also now have a Panasonic 50" and 65" Plasma tv. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems are from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Hope this will help you out.

How much would it cost to repair a Sony TV?

Q. Its a 42in LCD Sony HDTV Model KDF-E42A10. While it was being moved it got a little wet (very little). Now it has lines running across the screen..several about 40-50 lines. Some of the lines go away after it runs for about 30-45 mins. I'm pretty good with electronics but not repairs, I'm thinking about getting it repaired by a professional but I want to know how much it could possibly cost?

Any ballparks are greatly appreciated, thanks.

A. Forget trying to get your tv repaired. It will cost more money than just buying a new tv. The labor cost is very high. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tv along with the pro and con of each technology. Sony quality have dropped and they are not very dependable at all. I purchased a Sony 34" CRT tv, the first HD tv in the marker for $6,400 and it only lasted 2 years. Also purchased 2 Sony DVD players model 7000 and 7700 both over $1,000 each when DVD first came out and they only lasted 2 years. I have a Pioneer Elite DVD player and it is over 6 years old and still running strong same goes for my Panasonic Blu Ray disc player model BD-10 the first generation and it is still running strong and over 300 blu ray disc played on it. I use Panasonic Plasma tv and a projector for my home theater and have had no problems. Hope this will help you out.

How to change an hdtv in sd mode to get a hd picture?

Q. I recently bought a 37" Vizio LCD HDTV. However, when I press info to see the show it says the show then 480i SD. But I have an HD Cable Box and everything. How do I make it so I have an HD picture instead of an SD picture?

A. FIRST, you NEED to check your cable box....make sure in the menu that it's set to OUTPUT a 1080 signal.....if it's set for 480, that's all it will deliver to your TV set.

The TV itself is automatic....no settings in your TV to adjust.

Now, YOU NEED to use either an HDMI cable or a COMPONENT cable to get HD. You can't use your standard 3-wire cables to get HD.

Then tune your box to an HD station like Discovery HD...

What is the best picture clarity setting for my 32" vizio LCD HDTV?
Q. I need to know the best setting for the picture Quality, so that its not fuzzy and i need the best color settings. i have a vizo 32" LCD HDTV. i want it too look like the picture Quality at the store like best buy.

A. Make sure you are tuned to an HDTV station..?? Are you on a cable box with HD?? Satellite?? ON my cable box, the normal channel 4 is like the old analog.. Channel 404 is in HD.. (Different in other areas.) Check with your cable provider. I also like to run the Sharpness in the 'Picture' options rather high. Part of your Menu settings... Most sets are pretty well set up when sold in a default condition..

How do I fix my HP LC3760N LCD HDTV when an intermittent green light is blinking instead of steady power on?

Q. I have an intermittent green light blinking on my HP LC3760N LCD HDTV where the power on light usually comes on. I fell asleep with my TV on during an electrical storm to find my TV in this condition. I have not been able to turn the TV on since, but the blinking green light comes on every time I plug the TV in. Is there a way to fix this problem without spending half the cost (1000/2=500) of the TV?

A. these new tvs are unreliable and fragile and generally only last 4-5 years before the back lighting goes, they don't tell you any of that or that the built-in tuners are obsolete since they cannot receive HD television, I hope it is under guarantee since most faults with these tvs are unrepairable or uneconomic to repair

How do I connect a game console to a Vizio M261VP LED LCD HDTV?
Q. I recently got a Vizio M261VP LED LCD HDTV and when I connect my PS3 with the HDMI cable, it looks beautiful. But, when I try to connect my PS2 with the normal colored cables (yellow, red and white) the audio works but the video looks mainly blue. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

A. Video actually is made up of 3 primary colors (red, green, blue) which combines to create all the shades in between. So if you can see it, your yellow cable is working. The problem is the encoder in your PS3 that combines the RGB into a single video cable. You can't fix the PS3, but you can adjust the video on your TV with the Hue control. Just remember that it affects all yellow cable inputs, so other programs may need to be adjusted back.

What should I do concerning audio with two televisions in my living room?

Q. My roommate has a 32 inch LCD HDTV and I have a 37 inch LCD HDTV. We'd like to put both of them in the living room but we're not completely sure what to do about audio when we're watching different things. Does anybody have any suggestions? Please don't put something like only use one TV. Those answers don't help.

A. Get some wireless stereo headphones.

That is the only way you can watch two TVs this size in the same room without having volume wars...

Will the game slows down if I connect my computer to a 37 inch hdtv?
Q. I have a very good gaming video card and 2 gb of ram. Anyways my computer is already connected with 22 inch hdtv. And i want to disconnect it and connect to my other T.V which is 40 inch hdtv. If i play games with that 37 inch hdtv. Will my games slow down? How much would it affect it? Will it be good enough to play games?

A. That depends partly on how good the 40" HDTV is. The larger the screen size the higher the refresh rate you want. The standard refresh rate for LCD screens is 60Hz. If the other HDTV you have is 120Hz, or even 240Hz, then it should be alright. Also, if it has a Gaming Mode, then that will help reduce any "stuttering" so you don't have any delayed reaction between joystick and game movement.

What is the best soundbar in the less than 300 dollar range?

Q. I have a Hisense 55" LCD TV. It is a good tv for what I paid, but the sound is atrocious! Does anyone know of a reasonably priced soundbar that works well? An ipod dock or bluetooth would be a definite plus. I have found various options on Amazon and I am just trying to whittle it down to the best ones. Thank you for any help.

A. Some things to be careful of:

Many soundbars accept left/right RCA jacks. Your HDTV probably has a Optical output. These are NOT compatible with each other. Make sure to only buy a soundbar that accepts optical.

For speakers - always buy speakers from a company that makes speakers as their main business. This means Energy, Polk, Klipsch, Boston, etc. Avoid Samsung, Philips, Sony, etc. These companies make some good items, but speaker are not their strengths.

The better sound bars have a external subwoofer. The small speakers in a soundbar cannot produce BASS. If you like action/adventure shows or movies, consider getting a unit with a external subwoofer.

They do make ones with wireless subwoofers but running an RCA cable is cheaper and the system tends to cost less. Go for one of these if you can afford it.

Q. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6000 and my TV is a brand new LG LCD HDTV. What's the type of cable I need to buy to watch movies on my TV from my laptop?

A. i think you need VGA to VGA - then make sure you extend the image rather then just cloning the laptops image or you have to use the same resolution for both

How do I hook up a insignia lcd hdtv mounted on my wall to my xbox360 which is connect to suround sound and...
Q. How do I hook up a insignia lcd hdtv mounted on my wall to my xbox360 which is connect to suround sound and to the xbox brand hd dvd player????

A. Just use wires. It is like hooking up any other TV that is not on the wall. You can let them hang down and have a very unprofessional look or you can buy wires that are rated to go in the wall (make sure they are to avoid any code violations or insurance issues later) and then it will look more professional. Either way, you cannot run the power cord through the wall by law. Your best bet is, depending on the type of surround sound receiver you have, is to run all the wires into that and then 1 wire out to the TV.

Why do people say LCD TVs are the worst kinds of TVs because of the back light & once the back light blows out?
Q. Then you will have to buy a brand new TV.

I have an Insignia 32 inch LCD HDTV(Advanced series) and I have a feeling the back light could blow out at any moment,I have had the TV since February 27th,2010

A. >Why do people say LCD TVs are the worst kinds of TVs

Because they say silly things.

>because of the back light & once the back light blows out?

Sometimes they fail that way. With a cheap brand like Insignia it probably wouldn't be worth fixing.

>I have a feeling the back light could blow out at any moment,

Unless there is evidence of impending failure (flickering, off color startup, dim) this is a psychological problem. You have no way of knowing if it will last one day or 5 years. No TV is going to last forever.

Best Buy makes a lot of money selling extended warranties to people who have trouble dealing with uncertainty. People who "self-insure" by not buying extended warranties save money on average, but this is little comfort to the unlucky ones who's TVs die right after the factory warranty expires.

So called LED TVs (they are actually LCD TVs with LED back lights) should be less susceptible to back light failure.

Best thing to do is to stop listening to BS artists, enjoy your TV, and start saving for a new TV. That way when your Insignia finally bites the big one, you can just go out and buy a "LED" TV and a warranty with cash.
