What can I play on my HDTV that is in 1080p, and is the higher resolution even worth it?

Q. 1080p displays are the newest types of LCD displays on the market. Although broadcasters do not send a 1080p signal yet, the newest Blu-ray and HD DVD players do. If you want the highest possible picture detail and a display that will accommodate higher resolutions in the future, then the cost may be worth it.

A. TV stations will not send any 1080P signals out, the bandwidth requirements exceed the 6 Mhz bandwidth that the FCC allows per channel.

They can transmit 1080i, but cannot transmit 1080P signals due to this limitation.

But DVD players can send a 1080P signal...and if the demand exists in the Future....you may see 2160P.

Is there a REAL difference between 1080P and 1080i ?

You would have to Sit RIGHT ON TOP OF THE TV SET to actually see the difference.
Round objects are smoother/rounder on 1080P, of course it is limited by the FACT that all display panels use square pixels to create a round object...

So there are limitations to the roundness of objects anyways....

I would suggest SITTING BACK and enjoying the whole picture and letting our eyes process the "squared circles" into smooth round circles.
Persistance of vision is an amazing part of our human design.

Is it worth the money to get a 1080P TV set?
YES !

You have to understand that 1080P TV sets actually have a 1920 x 1080 display panel, rather than a 1280 x 768 display in them.

A 1080P TV set is actually HIGHER DEFINITION than ones that can only process 720P and 1080i.

Native resolution is a very important value, and that wonderful [[1080P]] sticker on most TV sets tell you that you have purchased the HIGHEST Native Resolution DISPLAY that you can get !!

What is the best type of TV for PS3 gaming?
Q. What is the best TYPE of TV
LCD
HDTV
PLASMA
(or any other things you would like to point out)

A. Before I answer I would just like to clarify something. I find your second option quite funny as HDTV is not exactly a type of TV but rather a category of tv's that fit in if they exceed 720 resolution :) Just thought i'd clarify this. 1080p is currently the highest resolution found in consumer TV's and is also considered an HDTV. Currently, LCD and plasma are the major 2 tv types being sold in the markets.

I answered this exact same question a little while ago on answers, so I will repost what I said:

To answer your question directly - the answer is LCD for gaming as you would not have to worry about image burn-in that plagues many plasma displays. Static images such as health bars, maps, etc. that are all visible in video games, when displayed on plasmas for long periods of times (ie. many hours per week) could cause potential burning-in the screen for the future. This is still a problem for modern plasmas although the effects were much more visible in earlier editions of plasma displays.

The advantage to plasma however is that they have deeper or real black levels. With LCDs, the blacks are artificial and on many of the cheaper LCD sets, the black levels will look slightly washed out or grey.

I have a ps3 and use an LCD if that has any extra value. I simply enjoy the fact that I don`t have to worry about screen burn-in every time I turn on the TV even though many of the modern plasmas take a lot of usage in order for this to happen. It`s just a peace of mind I guess.

EDIT: I'd just like to clarify somethinig that another poster mentioned as it is major misinformation. LCD tv's that have 1080p resolution are not the best quality tv's. This is absolutely not true. There are 1080p resolution plasmas as well and with the deepened black levels I mentioned above, the plasmas would in fact have the better image quality. This is the major reason why people in fact buy plasmas, otherwise, why would someone buy something inferior to LCD in image quality and also risk image burn-in? However, some LCD tv's just recently (i.e. samsung 9 series) have LED backlighting which allows black levels to come very close to those of plasmas. However, the best image quality in a TV at the moment for the general consumer market is the Pioneer kuro elite model plasmas.

Just thought i'd clear up some information here as some people will get the wrong impression from the above post.

What is the difference between a Viore and a Philips?

Q. What is the difference between a Viore 32" Class LED-LCD 1080p 120Hz HDTV, LED and a Philips - 32" / 1080p / 60Hz / LED-LCD HDTV?

A. The refresh rate of the tv. One refreshes at 120hz per second and the other at 601hz per second.

What is/are the best hdtv to buy for gaming?
Q. I'm looking for a high quality tv for a really good price and anywhere from 26" to 32". I have an xbox if it matters.

A. Panasonic is the most frequent top choice for plasma sets in consumer reviews, and most gamers prefer plasma for the lack of fast-motion blur.

Unfortunately, plasmas don't come in small screens such as you suggest. At that size, you're limited to LCD or LCD/LED. To minimize fast-motion blur on one of those, check the specs for any TV that interests you. You want a refresh rate of 100 or 120 Hz (not 50-60), depending on where you are (North America, Europe, etc.) and you want the fastest possible response time: something under 5 milliseconds.

If I'm using an HDTV as a computer monitor, is it possible that images can be burned into the screen?

Q. I just recently bought a Polaroid 40" LCD HDTV. I used a VGA cable to connect the TV to my computer. I was wondering if it is possible that I could ruin my television by burning the onscreen image into the TV if I leave my computer inactive?

A. I'll let the experts at Samsung, the number one shipping LCD TV manufacturer in the US answer your question:

"Although much less susceptible than Plasma TVs, LCD TVs are still subject to screen burn in (image retention) ... If you are using your LCD TV as a computer monitor, the same general rule holds true: Avoid keeping a static picture or a picture with static elements (black bars, black borders, logos, etc.) on your LCD TV for more than two hours at a time..."

I'm trying to decide between several 65-inch televisions?

Q. I'm trying to decide between several 65-inch televisions: the latest Pioneer plasma, the Samsung LCD, the Sony LCD and the Sharp Aquos. I am leaning towards the plasma based on the reviews but was wondering if there were any strong opinions against it.

A. If you restrict yourself to 65-inch class flat panel displays then you currently have a very limited selection: no LED-backlit LCD TV’s and no Pioneer plasma displays.

Plasma display technology is far from being “phased-out” and at least three major CE manufacturers continue to offer plasma displays: Matsushita (Panasonic), Samsung and LG. Plasma displays consistently remain at or near the top of the performance list from nearly every source of reputable TV reviews (though local-dimming LED-backlit LCD TV’s are beginning to challenge the performance areas—other than viewing angle—where emissive displays such as PDP’s have traditionally excelled.)

At this point in time the Panasonic V Series plasma displays offer the best value in terms of initial cost versus overall picture quality, esp. where more than one or two people are expected to be viewing the screen at one time. For me the choice between a CCFL-backlit LCD TV and any of the Samsung PNB850/860 series, Panasonic V series or Pioneer KURO plasma displays is easy - I overwhelmingly prefer the picture quality of plasma; but I also ensure that the room is always dark when viewing movies and certain TV programs.

As good as the latest LED-backlit LCD TV’s are, particularly the top-of-the-line Samsung models, and as good as the Panasonic V10 series are, the Pioneer KURO and Elite KURO plasma TV’s and monitors continue to remain the reference standard against which all top performing consumer displays are being compared.

In the process of choosing a new fixed-pixel flat panel display, irrespective of the display technology, it is very important that you take into consideration the performance of the image and video processing of the flat-panel TV’s in which you’re interested, esp. if you regularly watch standard definition video content such as DVD-Video as well as SD programming from Cable TV, DBS and/or OTA.

One final word of advice: you should make every effort to visit your local dealers and thoroughly and carefully evaluate each of the displays which interest you, preferably under viewing conditions that are (adjusted to be) similar to yours.

how much does it cost to opeate a flat screen TV?
Q. my dad said we cant afford to buy a flat screen TV because it uses up too much electricity and it will double the electric bill. is this true?
What kind of flat screen TV should we look for if we don't want to double our electric bill? We do want High Definition picture though and we are thinking of around 42 inches that can be mounted on a wall.

A. Your dad is being overzealous!

Obviously if you go from a 30" CRT TV to a 65" Plasma TV, you're going to see a noticeable rise in your electric bill! But it's not going to be enough to break your dad's wallet!

However, 42" LCD and Plasma TV are very common size for HDTVs. And most are energy star rated so you don't have to worry about a significant rise in your electric bill! If there is any rise at all, you probably won't notice it unless you're looking for it!

This is a TV that i recommend a lot because it's made by the most reliable brand of HDTVs i've ever seen, as well as it's an affordable TV that provides an outstanding picture quality! It's one of the most energy efficient Plasma models made too!

Panasonic 42" 1080p(TC-P42U1): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+42%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9244301.p?id=1218066284214&skuId=9244301

It's on-mode average energy consumption is rated at 142w. That'll cost about $2.76 a month at the national average of 12cents per kilowatt hour(some states vary)!

Questions about Panasonic GT50 THX Cinema picture mode?

Q. I purchased a 50" GT50 HDTV a few days ago and I absolutely LOVE it! The picture is amazing. I was playing around with the picture modes though and i noticed one called "THX Cinema". How is this different from the regular "Cinema" mode? When i switch between them all that's obvious is that the picture looks a bit smaller but more complete (like it zooms out a tiny bit). Of course I'm completely ignorant to all this technical stuff so what do I know. Can anyone explain this to me? I the THX mode optimal for movies and such?

A. For a given manufacturer’s compliant display, THX [picture] modes are intended to provide a set of simple preset picture settings that conform to THX’s carefully chosen criteria for video image quality. Ideally the preset THX picture settings should provide the most natural or accurate video image quality short of a professional video display “calibration.” In reality, for the more demanding perfectionist it is relatively easy to surpass the image quality performance offered by the preset THX picture modes on the 2012 Panasonic plasma display panels by using the Custom picture mode along with proper display calibration software and hardware.

In addition:

THX picture modes (according to Panasonic GT50 series eHELP, page 25):

‘Precisely reproduces the original quality of the image without any revision.’

‘Recommended for playback of THX disc[s] (disc[s] with “THX” logo.) THX mode is used to mirror the picture settings used by professional filmmakers, faithfully reproducing the image quality of THX Certified movies. (THX Certified movies have the “THX” logo on a disc.)’

I plan on buying a Insignia® - 42" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV , I wanted to know if this will be to big?

Q. Will this TV be to big for my bedroom? I made a guess measurement and I will be sitting at least 7-8ft away from the TV. I know the recommended is 10ft but 7 or 8ft is pretty close to 10ft. Thanks

A. I don't know who told you that 10ft was the recommended seating distance but that 42" 1080p TV is perfect for your seating distance!

The recommended seating distance for a 42" 1080p TV is between 6ft to 8ft! The distance for a 42" 720p TV is between 8ft to 12ft! Maybe that's were the mix up came from.

Just FYI...if you plan to buy that TV, get an extended warranty with it! Insignia is not a very reliable brand of TV. They have problems with their power supply boards and inverter boards! I recommend LCD brands like Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp or Toshiba!

Hope this helps!

What is the best sound bar for a 32" Vizio TV?

Q. I have a Vizio 32" E320VL LCD HDTV and I have noticed that when I watch a movie on my dvd player, the sound is not very good. It's really quiet in certain parts and really loud in others. I was wondering if a sound bar would fix this problem, and if so what would be the best and cheapest one to get for my Vizio TV? Thanks to anyone who can help!

A. Visit crutchfield.com and click on speakers then soundbars. They offer a good selection with specs and list their offerings from lowest price to highest price. You don't have to buy from them but it doesn't hurt to look. Crutchfield has been in business for many many years. I bought a Sony TV from them in 2010. I live in Texas and by buying from them paid no state sales tax and they ship anywhere in the US at no additional cost. I have a new Vizio 32" LED in my kitchen and after I heard the TV sound for the first time I started looking. The down side of soundbars is the width. Be sure to take that into consideration when shopping. Last, pricing of soundbars is pretty much like other speakers in that you can expect to get what you pay for. The higher the quality, the higher the cost.

help me please! I need to get the best quality possible on my lcd hdtv monitor?

Q. I can do up to 1080i on the lcd hdtv monitor, but when I check the little tv icon at the bottom of my screen, it says I'm getting 54Mps. What's the conversion rate and how do I get it to be the best quality?

A. Sounds like your low on blinker fluid. Open up your control panel (its in System Preferences) and poor 2 ounces directly onto the computer. This will allow the conversion from the 54mbs you are getting from the intergoogles to transduce to the 1080p signal you are looking for. Once this is done, you will need to restart the computer while holding command+shift+P+R+esc+option+start while staring directly into the sun and shaking your left foot. This will boot you into "Awesome" mode. Then you can make the changes you need in "Displays" (located in Control Panel).

How do I make my LCD HDTV clear?
Q. I just bought an LCD HDTV, and I am using regular comcast cable. The picture is not clear. I believe I need an hd tuner or something, but the picture is really grainy. Do I have to subscribe to hdtv, or just get a tuner, or both? FYI, the quality is pretty bad right now with niether a tuner or a subscription to hdtv. I'm confused.

A. Do you have a HD cable box ? If not you need to go and get one. Without the HD box there is no HD signal. You get the Box from your cable provider.

Q. Im looking to purchaseing a 26" LCD HDTV, but i really dont know what brand to purchase. I looked at a LG and noticed the picture quality looked pretty good. It had good color, but dont know if its a good brand over all.

A. the sd picture on your 26" will look good, maybe a little foggy. Use the S-video input for the best results. I would avoid the HD programming option on a set that small because the HD resolution doesn't really shine until a 40" screen but that's with my eyes your results may vary

Q. How do I hook up a insignia lcd hdtv mounted on my wall to my xbox360 which is connect to suround sound and to the xbox brand hd dvd player????

A. Just use wires. It is like hooking up any other TV that is not on the wall. You can let them hang down and have a very unprofessional look or you can buy wires that are rated to go in the wall (make sure they are to avoid any code violations or insurance issues later) and then it will look more professional. Either way, you cannot run the power cord through the wall by law. Your best bet is, depending on the type of surround sound receiver you have, is to run all the wires into that and then 1 wire out to the TV.

What computer video card do i need to run 3D on Samsung 3D HDTV 240hz?

Q. I am getting a new 55" Samsung 3D HDTV 240hz 1080p LCD-LED television very soon.

My question is what video card for my computer am I going to need to run 3D games on that TV?

The video card I am using now is a ATI Radeon HD 4850
The price needs to be within $100-$400 USD

A. Details that would help would be what operating system that you plan to run. And what other specs you have for the system that you plan on using. I see that you are currently using an ATI card, so I would assume that you would want to have an ATI replacement card. I will also assume that you have enough room around your PCI slot to fit a dual slot card. Also power supply specs come in to play as well, especially where graphics are concerned. You want 600watt supply at the bare minimum. I would strongly suggest over 800watts and above to give you room to grow later.

Now you say you plan on running 3D games. That kinda narrows your list of possible choices to the more expensive end of the spectrum. Being able to play them and being able to play them well are two different things as I'm sure you know :P.

Requirements for HD3D Be sure to check that your TV is supported on this list. Also listed are the graphics cards that I recommended below. Go for the best that you can afford.
http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-hd3d/Pages/supported-hardware.aspx

An important note from that list is that you will also have to get additional hardware. (3D glasses and such). I couldn't find any on AMD's website. Researching further into it, it appears that AMD delegates the task of 3D hardware sourcing and compatibility to third party manufacturers. The other options force you to purchase a specific monitor and glasses.

Choices:

Radeon HD 5970 (Hemlock) 2GB $499
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102887
A bit over your price range, but well worth it. Fastest card out at the moment

Then right beneath that you have the Radeon HD 5870

Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB $369
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102888

I chose that specific 5870 because of the memory. It's a 2GB card, beware of the prices there. Make sure that you are paying for the memory and not for an over clocked GPU on a 1GB card. Don't settle for less than 2GB. And don't pay for an overclocked card, any overclock that you would get is marginal and could be done for free yourself if you so choose.

Comparison chart of the two so you can see the differences and decide for yourself:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/162?vs=165

To stay in your price range, you would want to stay with the 5870 though.

Now with all this said... I must mention that standard refresh rate for 3D is currently 120Hz and not 240Hz.
http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv/120hz-240hz-60hz.html -- Some reading on the subject.

Overall, I'd say those two cards are your choices. And congrats on the new TV. But stick with the 2D games for now, as for 3D technology, ATI doesn't seem to be on the ball.

What is the difference between LCD, LED, and Plasma screen televisions.?
Q. I'm planning on buying a new TV soon, but there are so many display options. I don't know too much about the difference in LCD, LED, and Plasma. I know that one of them has like a light shining off the back or the side of the TV and thats the one that I don't want. Can somebody help me with this information.

A. For many years, the CRT technology was the dominant technology in television sets. However, in the past few years, there has been a significant improvement in the technology, which has seen the introduction of LCD, plasma and LED televisions. Each of these new technologies has its strong points in the method that it displays images, among other features. The features for each type of these technologies are as below.

As with most electronics, it is recommended that you first do your research before choosing a HDTV. By doing research, you can ensure you choose a quality television that you will enjoy. There are many different sites that post reviews, and reviewing what other customers have said is really important. A good example of a page is one that displays Panasonic Viera TC-P54G25 reviews. Such sites not only provides expert reviews, but more importantly, also supply customer reviews.

When researching a television, it is also important to look at the differences in the technologies. The next few section outlines the three technologies that you will find in a HDTV.

What is an LCD TV?
The acronym LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. This technology was created to replace the CRT technology. A LCD TV is a significant improvement in the way pictures are displayed due to the mode of display involved.

LCD technology uses two major components to display, namely; Cold Cathode Florescent Lamps or CCFLs and molecules of liquid crystals. The CCFLs are used to illuminate the liquid molecules with white light, and as the light passes through, an image is created.

A LCD TV has the following advantages over a CRT TV; flat and much lighter, a higher resolution, wider viewing angle of up to 175 degrees, lower power consumption, resistant to ‘burn in’ due to static images, and are ideal for naturally lit environments. However, there are some disadvantages to this technology such as a low contrast ratio and inability to achieve true black picture quality.

What is a Plasma TV
The shortcomings of LCD TV led to the development of Plasma Display Panel, otherwise known as a plasma TV. With this technology, images are created from gases containing neon and xenon atoms.

Plasma TV technology boasts of a rich variation of colors, due to an advanced color generation feature, that is able to generate true black picture quality.

The viewing distance and angles are also wider, ranging from 160 and up to 180 degrees, which is more than what can be achieved with a LCD TV. A plasma TV also has a higher lifespan than LCD TV. The downside of this technology is that the viewing capability, especially the brightness is greatly diminished in poor lighting conditions, lower resolution, and an irreparable back light.

Can someone explain the difference between LCD, LED, and Plasma TVs? Also, if 3D TV worth it?

Q. As far as I know, the LED technology was designed to be better than LCDs. 3 years ago, LCD seems to be the top dog in all HDTVs due to the technology and power savings, but as of recently I see people really favor Plasma. From what I understand, the flaws that Plasma TVs used to have have been improved significantly and it's currently the best selection for heavy video gaming as it has much more Hz.

And then there's 3D TVs. To me, 3D is nothing more than a gimmick or fad that will die out pretty soon, but it's been 2 years and almost every major video game support it today. I've never had an experience with a 3D TV besides trying it out for a couple seconds, so I don't know if I should go for it.

I will be shopping for a new TV this Black Friday and am looking through various deals. Right now, I am looking through many deals but can't decide what are the drawbacks from each. My budget is $500 max (without tax and warranty). All things considered (brand, price, size, type, etc.), which is the best pick out of these four?

[1] $299.99 (Reg $899.99) | Toshiba 50" LED-backlit LCD TV 1080p (FullHD) 50L2200U

[2] $479.99 (Reg $679.99) | TCL 48" 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV

[3] $499.99 (Reg $799.99) Samsung 40" 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV with 3D

[4] $497.99 (Current $899.99) | Samsung 40" LED 1080p 120Hz 3D HDTV (UN40EH6030FXZA), with 2 pairs of 3D glasses

Thanks.

A. LED TV's are LED backlit LCD screens that are brighter and arguably sharper than their LCD counterparts. Plasmas have deeper blacks than LCD's and are more for movie watching but if you are into sports then LED/LCD is superior.

I agree with you that 3D is a fad and personally I get sick and develop headaches when looking at the 3D imagery. There have not been enough studies done to determine what long term health effects 3D screens have on the eyes and that alone would be enough to turn me off.

How good is this website?
Q. I'm planning to buy a tv for this website http://www.eastcoasttvs.com/ but i was wondering if it was a reliable website that i could buy it from.

Q. My sister in law left a broken Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. I looked online but I can't seem to find any place where I can find just the screen for replacement. Does anyone know where I can buy just the screen or how to fix it?

A. you need SKILLS and tools to replace the LCD DISPLAY PANEL.
However , if you known the PARTS COST , you will never want to replace it, and buy an new TV for sure.
New LCD display panel cost about 65 % of same screen size of new TV. + shipping and services charge to replace the panel . total is around 80 + % of new LCD TV.
will you still want to buy the display panel ?
Sylvania is handle by Funai same as Philips Brand TV sold in USA. the 42 inc display panel is made by Taiwan Che-Mei. if you comfortable with the prices. contact Funai USA.

Q. We just bought a phillips lcd hdtv. We had dish sattlelight but no longer have it. What connections do we need to get basic channels?

A. As long as your new TV says it has a built in tuner you should be fine. All ya need is an antenna.

What does a 4:3 game look like on a widescreen tv?

Q. I'm looking at purchasing a 19" lcd hdtv and will be using it as both a second computer monitor and for ps1/2 gaming. What do these games look like on a widescreen? It would be much appreciated if someone could quickly load up a game and take a picture.
Reply to first response: The PSP screen is 16:9. I am requesting a picture of what a PS1/2 game, normally in 4:3, would look like on a widescreen.

A. well Ill give the best answer I can. A 4:3 screen is the same size as a psp screen. Just try and picture that on a 19 inch tv.

When i hook my dvd player up to my lcd tv the picture has a green tint?
Q. I just baught a 19" Sanyo lcd hdtv and a sony dvd player. when i hook up the dvd player the picture has a green tint even though the cable color is fine. i have all the cords so what is wrong?

A. Sounds like a bad cable. Are we talking about Component Cables (Green, Blue, Yellow) or HDMI? It sounds like one of the signals is not syncing properly, this could be from several reasons. Bad cables, poor shielding, grounding problems.

I'd start with the cable. You can cheat by using really good composite cables and matching up the red, white, yellow cables to the Green Blue Yellow connectors (just make sure they match up on both ends). Don't be surprised if that doesn't solve it because Composite cables are not generally shielded which is usually pretty important in component cables. The thicker the cables the better they usually are so find the thickest Composites you can find. If it solves it, then you'll need to buy a new set of cables. You shouldn't continue to use the composite cables.

What are the best brand to buy a big sizes of HDTV?

Q. I have a plan to buy a huge size of HDTV but until now i dont know what brand i would choose coz theres so many in the market.

A. You mean the best? What type of HDTV are you looking for? I am familiar with 3 types:

a) Plasma
b) LCD
c) Rear Projection TV

A) Plasma: I would say Pioneer. If you have money to spend then go for their Elite series. You won't be disappointed. They have a 42, 50 and 60 right now. Yes they also have the 1080p models at a higher price. These are not good for gaming thought. They are best for watching movies and tv-not for games!

B) LCD: not as bright as plasma but good TV for gaming. Speacially the one with faster response time. I would say Sharp is on the leading edge for this series. You may opt for their 92 series. Something like the LC52D92U. Then you may also get a bigger LCD from Sharp. The Sony bravia is also a good choice, I'm not familiar with this product though.

C) Rear projection-seen this one. Very cool. Not as expensive as the plasma. Clear pictures specially if you are right in front of it. Don't go at an angle though. Good for gaming. JVC has a good D-ila series. You can get up to 72 inches for these TV. 1080p series. Good for the price and picture. The only trouble is you have to change bulb every 2 to 3 yrs. The bulb would probably cost $500 Canadian dollars plus install.

What size TV should I buy for my Living room. I will be sitting 9 ft from TV.?
Q. I have been looking at a 32" Sony with 720P. Is that too small? I have an old 32" JVC and would like a HDTV.

A. Hi rena, LG WRman Greg here,

It's a simple math calculation to get the optimum TV screen size for your viewing distance. The formula is:

Minimum TV dimensions = Viewing distance / 3
Maximum TV dimensions = Viewing distance / 1.5

From this formula, we can calculate that with 9 feet viewing distance, the beset TV dimension should be around 36-72 inch. However, it's still recommended to buy the TV size that is closer to the minimum TV dimension to guarantee your eyes' health.

In case you are looking for a good new TV, check out some models from LG here: http://www.lg.com/in/led-lcd-tv The LM-series TVs in particularly are some of the best 3D TVs in the market right now.

LG WRman Greg out!

why is my friend being charged so much on her credit card?

Q. i owe $239 on a lcd lg flat sceen tv. thats on layaway. my friend offered to pay it all off for me on her credit card(capital one). she just called me and told me that the credit card co. just told her that if she spends $2oo she has to pay back $295. is this true? or is she just rying to be a loan shark? thanks for all answers.

A. Layaway? A blast from the past. I didn't know people did that any more. I recently took home an HDTV at Best Buy for 0% interest until August 2011, but even if I only pay $100 per month, I will have it paid off long before then. And I have bought things at Circuit City too for 0% interest (maybe why they went belly up).

As mentioned, as part of new credit card regulations they may have to tell her what it would cost to pay it off if she only make minimum payments, since they are required to disclose that now on statements. That is because some people with no financial smarts didn't realize what it would actually cost them if they only make minimum payments, instead of paying it off as rapidly as possible.

I think it’s better to shift on LED. Are you agreed with my friends?
Q. College friends are saying to change my LCD and instead of that, I should buy LED. What can be the solution dear?

A. Get plasma, it destroys LED/LCD in picture quality easily and are cheaper. You can get a GT25 or ST30 3d HD panasonic plasma at 42 inches for 1000 bucks and make your friends jealous as hell.

Look at Cnet's reviews Google best 3DTV or HDTV of 2011 and the top 5 are plasma's. Maybe 1 LED is in 6th place but its 3 grand.

Will this affect my picture quality?

Q. I just purchased a 42'' LG 1080p 120Hz lcd hdtv... but i've heard that the closer u are to a tv the worse the image will look...the couches are almost 4-5 feet from where the tv will be, will the quality be bad from where we are viewing it
wrong category...sorry!

A. I think that may be true with some of the older tvs, but I haven't heard anything about that being a problem with the newer ones, especially an HD.... Pretty sure you're fine where you are.

What is better DLP Projector or LCD TV or Plasma?

Q. I want something big and i mostly play in dark or almost dark. What are the pros and cons of them and which is better for gaming, movies, and tv. But mostly gaming. Thanks!

A. Projector are more expensive and the lamps are only rated for 2,000 hours of use, while LCD and Plasma are 60,000 to 100,000 hours. Keep in mind that you also need a video screen for a projector and it can only project a picture and no audio or tv tuner to watch tv. LCD on the other hand have a problem with blur motion when watching fast action sports of playing video games. The faster refresh rate of 120HZ or the 240HZ will bring the price of the tv higher. Depending on the size you are looking to get. LCD can go up to 60" while the Plasma at 65" and projectors up to 130" (depending on the projector). Plasma is still the better buy and you won't have to worry about the blur motion. Recommend you go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that Panasonic dominates the list with the Plasma tv. In November issue of the magazine it named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.

What do you recommend for a big screen TV?
Q. I want a 50", maybe I'd settle for slightly smaller. I'll pay up to $1k. But I want my TV to be awesome. What do you think considering the choices of plasma, LCD, LED and hertz etc? What should I look for and what do you think would be big and have a super clear picture so I can blow away my buddies with my TV's awesomeness?

A. I would recommend a Plasma tv from Panasonic, model G20 50" 1080P. It is available at Best Buy for under $1,100. It is a THX certified tv (higher video standard), which only a handful of tv are. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that Panasonic has more Plasma tv being recommended than any manufacturer. In November issue of the magazine it named the Panasonic Plasma tv model VT25 as the best tv for 2010, last year was a Pioneer Elite Plasma tv KURO model. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Hope this will help you out.

What's the difference like when playing blu ray on a 720p hdtv rather than a 1080p?

Q. i have a 42" samsung 720p lcd hdtv. is it still worth getting a blu ray player?

is there a noticeable or big difference between using a 720p and 1080p when playing blu ray?

A. most won't tell the difference for 1080p until you get over a certain size and distance from the screen.

Most would agree that 1080p after 46" starts to be a "must have". your under that so it really depends on your player and tv set.

don't listen to the guy talking about hdmi being the only way to get HD. I use component just fine for my ps3 and other blu ray players. I don't even have a 1080p set but I prefer my "tweaked avia set" over those over blown contrast sets you get these days. It's all preference.

I run mine at 1080i and 720p.

Hdmi is by far the cheapest way to go since it's one cable and you don't have to worry about shielding as much as a component cable.

There is a difference from HD over cable/sat, Over the Air (OTA), and blu ray/ HD dvd. Watch the bit rate stream. PS3 lets you watch it as it is playing. Cable/Sat is capped and OTA is generally better if you have a good signal since it's not as compressed.

Should i get the Vizio 32" Class 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV Bundle package at Walmart?
Q. I am pondering on getting the Vizio 32" Class 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV Bundle package with the free home theater system and HDMI cable. I am a new tv buyer and see this as a good deal. What should i look for? I got a ps3 and i want something that is durable and has good quality.

A. Vizio is local trademark . TV only sold in USA/CANADA.
Vizio USA do not manufactures any things. all TV " handle " by Taiwan Amtrans ,products designs and made in China. use low prices parts.
http://www.forbes.com/2009/05/21/taiwan-vizio-amtran-exports-lcd-tv.html?feed=rss_business
Vizio is " cheap ". but subject to reliable. try to avoid Vizio.
you may not need a quality. but keeps send TV for repair is free during warranty ,but cost shipping / transport charge , may with out TV from 1 to 4 weeks.this may make you mad !!
for games . PS 3 , better go for 120 HZ model . is cover.hide some " motion blur ". standard 60 HZ model , you will uncomfortable to the " motion blur ".
what is " motion blur " ? look at the ball .
http://www.plasma-lcd-facts.co.uk/myths/response/
you don't need a 1080 P model for an 32 inc TV. you eye will not get the difference between 720 P and 1080 P in screen size below 40 inc TV. however , TV maker take 1080 P as Hi End model. such model always better pictures quality than 720 HD model. ( you paid for it )
If you BUDGET allow. Samsung 32 inc 1080 P 120 hz model will be quality and reliable . Samsung manufactures TV by OWN from End to End. is reliable products. even 32 inc from Samsung China or Samsung Malaysia , but is all by Samsung. under Samsung HQ quality control . ( Vizio is all don by other . quality is beyond control ) !!
If because of BUDGET. Vizio is " CHEAP ' .just take some RISK !!
Please , visit show room to view the real unit., watch for sport movies. if you eye cant accept the " motion blur " , standard 60 HZ model is not for you. ( some people eye okay for that ).

What's the best way for me to get the most out of my new HDTV?

Q. I just bought a 37" inch vizio lcd hdtv. its an E370VL. I'm just going to use it just for playing my ps3. So what settings should i put so that i can get the best video possible when playing? Also, should i get wireless speakers just so i can enhance my gaming?

The tv is in my room btw.

A. Vizio is a good set. Congrats. The best way to maximize your purchase is to know what can be hooked up. What are all of those ports for and what do they mean? Here is one example. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ytech_gadg/20101001/tc_ytech_gadg/ytech_gadg_tc3771;_ylt You are simply scratching the surface of the tv's capabilities to ignore the fact that it was built to multi-task. The more tasks assigned to it the greater are your chances you are getting the most out of your purchase. Most tvs at the 37" price point can serve as a split screen monitor connected to a laptop, a set top box like apple tv, roku or nintendo will can run through the screen. External speakers are an option, perhaps as many as three. HDMI outlets are valuable. HDMI ports stream audio and video content from one cable. TVs yours included can be the sight of a wireless hub.

On the subject of wireless speakers. I wouldn't get wireless speakers unless it makes sense in the room. The better musical sound to the critical ear comes from wired speakers. This may not be the case for a gamer. However, no need to be concerned about electrical interference causing the sound to be interrupted. We live in an increasingly wireless world, certainly it will not hurt matters to have a set. In this case I would look at the spend and the set up in the room. If the room is tight and wired is limited due to plugs and cords all over the place do what makes the most sense living in the situation.

Best.

What is the best picture clarity setting for my 32" vizio LCD HDTV?
Q. I need to know the best setting for the picture Quality, so that its not fuzzy and i need the best color settings. i have a vizo 32" LCD HDTV. i want it too look like the picture Quality at the store like best buy.

A. Make sure you are tuned to an HDTV station..?? Are you on a cable box with HD?? Satellite?? ON my cable box, the normal channel 4 is like the old analog.. Channel 404 is in HD.. (Different in other areas.) Check with your cable provider. I also like to run the Sharpness in the 'Picture' options rather high. Part of your Menu settings... Most sets are pretty well set up when sold in a default condition..

what's the difference like when playing blu ray on a 720p hdtv rather than a 1080p?

Q. i have a 42" samsung 720p lcd hdtv. is it still worth getting a blu ray player?

is there a noticeable or big difference between using a 720p and 1080p when playing blu ray?

A. At that display size, there will be very little difference. The differences are much more noticeable at 50" or higher. Blu-ray is still worth it at the resolution you have though.

How can I adjust my computers settings to accept HDMI over VGA?
Q. I just got a new tv, Element 32" Class 720P LCD HDTV. Since it has an HDMI port, as does my laptop (Acer Aspire, Windows 7, 64-bit), I was trying to hook them up together. My brother got the same tv, and has a desktop (with Vista), I'm pretty sure the same HDMI cord as the one I'm trying to use. His works, but mine does not. I was wondering if anyone could provide any insight as to if I'm physically doing something wrong when connecting them, or if there's just a compatibility issue itself. When I go into my settings to tell my computer to display the device on HDMI, the only two options are Mobile PC Display or Display Device on: VGA. I set the tv to the correct HDMI setting, of that I'm sure because my brother was helping me out a bit. I don't know much technical stuff about PC's, so if I'm missing something that seems like it should be obvious, I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge in this area. Any suggestions appreciated :)

A. Press the Windows Key plus P, or the Fn+funtion key with the screen icon on it.

What do I need to connect my speakers to my tv?

Q. I have Monster StreamLine Tower 100 and I have a 3D LCD HDTV Vizio tv. Someone mentioned banana plugs but when I look those up, there is not any wires connected to them. Help please??

A. First things first, there's no direct connection on the back of Vizio TVs for you to plug your speakers in directly. The things you need between the TV and the speakers are an amplifier and some connection cables.

The amplifier takes the small signal produced from the sockets on the back of the TV and makes it powerful enough to drive your speakers. The type of amplifier typically used for this type of job is called an AV Receiver. Your TV definitely has a socket known as an "Optical Output". This will give you a great quality sound connection to an AV Receiver. The cable you need for this is an Optical cable.

Next comes the connection from the AV Receiver to those speakers of yours. For this we use speaker cable, A.K.A. speaker chord or speaker wire. You'll have a piece of this cable for each speaker. The end of this cable can be just bare wire or finished off with banana plugs which make installation neater and safer.

Once you have your AV Receiver and TV and speakers properly connected then the receiver will need to be set up. The manuals are pretty good. Just follow the instructions or come back here to ask further questions when you get to that point.

AV Receivers range in price from around $150 to $5000+, but the good news is that you don't have to spend $5000 to get a big improvement on the sound from your TV, Even a modest AV Receiver will do the trick. Can I hook up a Sony 3D surround sound system,to a Vizio 3D tv?
Q. I wanted to know if this is possible, before I purchase anything. The tv is a Vizio 32'' class 3d LCD HDTV,and the surround sound system is a, Sony HT-SS380 5.1 Channel 3D surround sound system.

A. Yes it is possible But I wouldn't buy an All in one Home theater. They are only made to watch movies in surround sound and nothing else. Plus if One part breaks it is junk. Also it is not upgradeable in anyway. the only one i will recommend is the Onkyo Ht-s5500 it is 3d ready also http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S5500-7-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B0077V88ZE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341780978&sr=8-1&keywords=onkyo+ht-s5500 it is a receiver with a set of speakers. If in the future you want better speakers you could add them This system is 399.00 Add a bluray player for less than a hundred and you are under 500.00. Hope this helps. If you buy any other all in one system I can bet you'll be back on here in less than a yr complaining it doesn't work properly or something is wrong with it.

Will an HDMI cable have any effect on picture quality with a PS3 connected to a 720p TV?

Q. I have a Vizio 32" LCD HDTV that displays in 720p, as well as a PS3. If I hook it up with an HDMI cable instead of the Red-White-Yellow cord, will it have any effect on the picture quality?

A. Compared to red-white-yellow, yes. Red-white-yellow (actually just Yellow) is just Composite, which does only 480i

Compared to Component ( red-green-blue-red-white), not for gaming anyways. Both it and HDMI do 720p or better.

I have a blue ray player and a HDTV but am not getting true Blue ray quality?
Q. I have a Phillips Blue Ray Player and a Phillips 32" LCD HDTV. I have them connected with a HDMI cable. I am NOT getting Blue Ray quality. When I go to electronic stores and see the same sort of setup the picture quality is amazing (of course that's what Blue Ray is known for).

What do I need to change or adjust to get the picture quality I am supposed to get?

Yes, I am using a Blu ray player and a Blu Ray DVD.

A. Real Blu-Ray quality is 1080 P FULL HD resolutions .
if you 32 inc HDTV is HD READY 720 P models, is unable to provide /display 1080 FULL HD quality.
i believe you TV is standard HD READY 720 P models.
you really cant do any things about it. unless change to FULL HD 1080 P models.
what is the difference between HD and FULL HD >

what LED hdtv should I buy to avoid noticing any Lag whatsover?

Q. Hi I have 2 Vizio HDTV. One is an LED and it is a 120 HZ and it is a 47 inch and the other is an LCD 47 inch one and also 120 hz. Now I am gonna give you a great example. You know for anyone who watches NBC Sunday Night Football and they go to the replay and the NBC Logo comes up to show the replay and after they show the replay the NBC Logs comes up again to go back to Live TV, well this is a great example because I notice somewhat of a lag when that happens and I see like a ghosting effect I guess and I also notice the pixels when that happens. It happens on other channels too but I notice it more on NBC Sunday Night Football. I have HD Directv with HDMI cable. So that isn't the problem. It is crazy because the other night I also watched the game on NFL Game Rewind app on the IPAD MINI and I didn't notice any lag whatsoever during the game. Is this lag or ghosting or whatever you want to call it caused by the response time of the TV or is it caused by the Refresh rate of the TV. I mean both of my Vizio TV's are doing the same thing and I even have a 3rd Sony 60 hz tv and it does it on that as well. So my questions are as follows:

1)Is the Lag caused by the Response Time or the Refresh Rate or what exactly?

2)Why is it on the IPAD Mini I didn't notice the lag?

3)I want the images to be crisp without any lag or ghosting or anything like that. What specifications on the TV should I look for?

4)For a 2013 say tv between a 30 to 39 inch what exact tv model do I look at to not see any lag etc?

5)How about a 40 to 50 inch TV which model should I look at?

6)Do I buy instead a monitor that is like 27 inch or 32 inch with an hdmi with a response time of say 1 ms. Please let me know.

Please answer each of my above 6 questions in details. Thanks.
For the Panasonic Plasma I should get a 1080P right rather than a 720P. The only problem that I have with Plasmas is that the picture is way too dim compared to the LED or LCD TV and I like a picture that is very bright. Please help. Thanks.

A. It's just a lag based on the distance of the TV and box from the satellite and just the broadcast in general. One of my family members had the same issue they have a 20 inch LED tv in their bedroom and a 32 inch LED tv in there living room. You can hear the TV's echo each other when on the same channel. Next the reason you didn't notice any lag on the iPad Mini is because it wasn't a live stream of it, it was a replay of what happened. So it's not looking for the live feed of the game over the internet, it's downloading it to the iPad's temporary memory just so it can play it through. This really isn't the TV at all VIZIO TV's are great options. This goes back to just DirecTV's ability to get the live video to the satellites and then to TV's across the US mainly. The only option would be to get a 240 Hz or 480 Hz HDTV but I really don't recommend that because those are mainly LCD TV's and LCD is probably the last option you want for a TV. LED is the best quality for a TV and LCD is better for a computer screen image. Overall for TV screen sizes you asked. The Best options are Samsung with there Smart HDTV's, Sharp's new IGZO display HDTV's, then Samsung is always reliable choice for HDTV's

Will the release of oled and 4k drop the price of regular tvs?
Q. hello, i was wondering if anyone in the tv sales or home theatre communities thought that with the release of oled (organic light emiting diode) or 4k resolution tvs sometime in 2013, that the price of tvs that aren't oled or 4k will drop much like standard definition tvs dropped in price when high def came out? In case your wondering im looking at the price of a Panasonic Viera Tcp50st30. THANK YOU

A. Yes the prices will go down, but not all of a sudden. Like all other electronics, the prices are constantly going down. Even when HDTVs came out, the prices on standard television didn't dropped overnight. Also, OLEDs TVs and 4k TVs are still a novelty, with only very pricey model are available to the general public. It will take 2-3 years to become mainstream and to challenge the plasma/lcd/led prices.

This is especially true if you want to buy a very specific model, like your case. If you are willing to wait that model would be when the new models will come out (so the stores need to sell their old stock). This is usually in the February-April time frame.

How will the prices for LCD HDTVs change in 2008?

Q. I've noticed some major stores selling 42-inch widescreen LCD HDTVs for under a thousand bucks... it's a lot of money to drop for something that will contribute only to my sitting around and being unproductive, but still, at that price, it's tempting.

I'm wondering, will the prices for such TVs continue to drop (especially around / after holiday season) or is at at a plateau for the time being?

A. The new 12/07 Consumer Reports magazine projects a price drop of 25-30% over the next year for popular size plasmas and LCDs. Generally speaking, the best times of the year to buy a TV on sale is in April, July, and November.

How to make my PS2 look better on my 42" LCD TV?
Q. My PS2 looks like crap on my new 42" LCD HDTV. I have the component cables, changed the output to "component," but it still looks bad, almost "super nintendo-ish." I've set the aspect ratio to 4:3, which is a little better, but I'd like to take advantage of the 16:9 without sacrificing quality. What else can I do? I don't want to spend the money on another system, but I thought the PS2 would look better than it does.
how do you up the screen resolution?

A. Have to upped the screen resolution???

Okay go into the televising/monitor settings and look for adjustments for sharpness, contrast, and brightness. On my TV there's adjustments for different warmth's too, like cold, and warm, kinda like a washing machine. I've set my sharpness high, contrast about 75% and brightness about 60%. After I did that my PS2 looked a whole lot better. If these don't help ya I'd suggest going to the store or the manufacture to get the dead on best settings. I wish ya all the luck my friend!!!

A. Press the Windows Key plus P, or the Fn+funtion key with the screen icon on it.

when your playing ps3 games honestly does which hdtv really matter?

Q. rathers its plasma lcd led or whatever brand will that greatly make a difference in picture quality?? if so how much will it be dramatically different?

A. It depends on how hardcore of a gamer you are really. When plasmas first came out they were death for gamers or even frequent sports viewers because of the threat of "burn-in"-when a repetitive image on the screen would remain "burned in" even after the picture would change, think health/ammo bars or the scoreboard in sports. Newer plasmas don't suffer from it to the same degree, but they still can have problems resulting from extended gaming sessions. If you play like 3 hours at a time you will be fine with a plasma. If you are more of an 8 hour marathoner you may want to try a different direction. Once your type is chosen just compare refresh rates (Htz) and contrast ratios in like priced and sized models. Also make sure it has all the inputs you may need. Multiple HDMI inputs, VGA if needed etc. Often you can get a larger screen size with a plasma per dollar.
