best LCD HDTV for my money?

Q. I want to buy an LCD HDTV 40"- 42" and spend no more that 1200.00
What is the best TV out there for my money?

A. Look for a good Samsung one. They will give you the best picture quality for the dollar out there. And its not a budget picture quality, its an amazing picture quality. They just don't over charge you to death like Sony.

Sharp Aquos is also a really good choice. They make very strong panels that review very well. As Samsung changed its business practices, Sony could no longer buy its LCD panels, and is now buying the Sharp ones (the ones used in the Aquos) line.

If you have access to a Costco that would be your best bet. They get their own models made, but are usually great prices for the features you get. You just have to dig through the specs as their model numbers aren't the typical ones on all the other sites/reviews.

I would look for a Samsung LN40A630 or LN40A550. I think those might be within your price range. Or for a Sharp, try the Sharp Aquous LC-42D65u.

What's the best LCD 42" HDTV for the money ?
Q.

A. For the best bang for the buck I'd highly recomend Vizo. I've seen several diffrent "budget" HDTVs and continously I've been impressed with Vizio's monitors. THey genreally ofer the best compromose between ultimate quality and reasonable prices. I'd check out a few electronic review articles such as c-net or home theater magazine for a good professional review.

I sold a 42" LCD HDTV and he wants his money back?

Q. Sold a tv today on craigslist here is the ad:

This sale is for a 42" LCD HDTV made by proscan. I have owned the TV for 2 years and bought it from best buy. There is no box, just the tv and remote control. The only reason that I am selling it is because I upgraded to a 50" and have no need for this one. There is a minor issue with the color on the TV, it is VERY usable. At times where the tv is black there can be a slight green tint. I have had people watch it and not even be able to notice. When the TV is hooked up to an HD feed it works very well and has plenty of life left in it. Would not use as a main TV, but if you want a great television for a great price this is it. Please feel free to call or text any questions 314-xxx-xxxx.

This is a cash only sale, I will meet within a reasonable distance to deliver.
***************************************************************************************************************

Above is the exact ad. He now wants his money back because the TV does not meet what he wants it to be. We settled on $150. What do you expect for that kind of money.

Do I give it back?

A. Its 100% up to you. Frankly buyer beware when purchasing from craigslist. At this point you have no obligation to give him his money back. But if you want to cut him a break you could. But I don't see any way you should feel obligated to do so. If you don't want to, then try to peacefully inform him that you're not Best Buy with a 7 day return policy and the sale is final. He can sell it himself over craigslist now if he wants.

You could also say that the best you'd be willing to do is give him say $125 back or $100 back. Tell him that him being allowed to return it was never part of the original agreement. And being that he's creating a major inconvenience for you, you're going to take a portion of the cost. Its like a restocking fee with many ma & pa electronic stores.

Myself, I would tell him all sales are final. If he wanted this to be a "test and see" then he should have made that to me at the time of purchase so I could have refused selling it to him. He didn't tell you that, so you shouldn't have to tolerate/accept it at this point in the agreement. And he is of course more than welcome to sell it himself via craigslist now, but for you, its sold and you have nothing to do with it from now on.

Plasma or LCD.............?

Q. im gona buy a new tv and im wonderin which kind to get... plasma or lcd and if u choose one please tell me whats best to play with my ps3 on ?
oh and money isnt a problem.

A. I own a 42" LCD HDTV and love it. When I was comparing, I chose the LCD over the plasma because of the price difference and because they looked pretty much identical. I have heard that plasma tv's can easily have bulbs burn out and have uncolored spots on them after a year, which isnt' something I would ever want. (Picture a magnet on an old TV screen, funky colored circle)

Im looking to purchase a 42 inch lcd hdtv on ebay...?
Q. thing is, I am trying to buy one with a bad crack in the screen because its for only 60 bucks. It was dropped by the shipping company.... Anyone knowledgeable as to how much it would cost for a new lcd screen at a repair shop? Is it even worth it to go this route?

thanks

A. Quite honestly, I would not touch that TV with a 10-foot pole. Even if you could afford to get it fixed for a few hundred dollars, you have NO way of knowing whether the cracked screen is the ONLY problem with the TV - remember - it was DROPPED, so it could have other broken parts inside, which means you could very well spend more money in fixing the darn thing than a new tv would cost!!! My 2 cents? Fuhgiddaboutit!!!!

what is the difference between series 4 and series 7 hdtv?

Q. i have a chance to get a series 4 samsung 42 inch for 500 dollars.
is that a good deal? what is the difference between the 2?

A. Samsung Series 4 are cheaper, but good quality models. They are available in six different sizes from just 19-inches all the way up to 40-inches and all have Samsungs 720p Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (SPVA) LCD panel, delivering great picture quality with a high 178 degree viewing angle.

On the other hand, Samsung Series 7 are available in 50-inch, 58-inch and 63-inch screen sizes, and are a lot more expensive: price starts from $2,800. As you can expect in this price range, performance is best money can buy, and you will have superior connectivity that provide a host of connections. You can plug your device to the USB 2.0 port and itll automatically turn the TV into a jukebox or photo album. It recognizes MP3 or JPEG and can play XviD and MPEG4 files. You can sort images with Digital Content Management and you also can have wireless internet connection.

What will be the best LCD HDTV 1080P Black Friday Deal?

Q. I am looking to get a 42" HDTV and want the best deal for the money.

A. Sears is going to have a 40" Samsung 500 series LCD for $799, and a 46" for $1099. They are lower end, but will probably be a your best deal. The only major difference between the 500 series, and the 530 is one less HDMI input.

what is the real different between a LCD and a Plasma HDTV?
Q. I am looking to buy a new tv, around 42 inch, and i am not really sure what is the difference between this two
I am just planing on watching mostly movies on this tv, i am not a reall big fan of playing video games on it
so, which one works better for me?

A. Here are the facts:

Plasma:

Pros:
It has a much better picture for fast motion such as sports or action movies.
It has a more accurate color because it can produce a true black.
It is very durable due to a glass screen on the front of the TV.
Price per inch is cheaper than an LCD.

Cons:
That durable pane of glass can cause glare from windows or lights in the room. If you have glare on your current TV, its not going to get any better with a plasma.
Higher power consumption than LCD.

Myths:
Plasmas have short life expectancy... Incorrect, 60,000 hour life expectancy (15-20 years)
Plasmas have burn in (aka image retention)... Not an issue with most plasmas on the market and only a concern if playing video games for long periods of time.

LCD:

Pros:
LCD has a matte finish (on most, not all) which won't cause glare.
Lower power consumption than plasma.

Cons:
It doesn't handle fast action well at all. Even the new 120hz LCD's don't process action as well as a plasma.
It can't produce a true black (only a dark blue). All other colors on the screen are brightened to fool your eye into seeing a black which throws off all colors.
The screens are delicate and can be easily damaged by young children or pets.

Myths:
Life expectancy is far greater than plasma... Incorrect. Life expectancy is 80,000 hours (18-23 years).

In response to something that has high pixels. 1080p is the new buzz word in the industry, however 1080p isn't available for cable, satellite, or antenna. The only way you'll receive 1080p picture quality is to purchase a Bluray player and watch Bluray DVDs ($300-400 for the player plus $30/bluray dvd). Don't get caught up in the whole 1080p resolution. If you only watch DVDs on occasion, you're probably not going to spring for the expensive Bluray player. If you don't plan on getting the Bluray player, save your money and look at a 720p TV.

Summary:
Your basic rule of thumb is if you can control the light in the room, get a plasma, if you can't, go with an LCD. Also, don't compare TV pictures side by side as all the images are highly exaggerated. Go to your local Best Buy and ask for a calibration demo (it will blow your mind and change the way you'll pick out a TV). They can also draw out your room and recommend a TV based on your lifestyle needs. They also aren't on commission, so no pressure and they'll match almost any price.

Which hdtv is best for my playstation 3?

Q. I need to know which hdtv is best for my playstation 3. I thinkn about getting a samsung, but don't know which model to get. They have a new one out, but i'm not sure if it's good or not.

A. Unlike what he said, i recommend going with a Plasma because with an LCD, the picture will fade at angles, but with a plasma, it will not. Plasmas now have the same lifespan an an LCD with a more true color that the bright unnecessary lights of the LCD. Also, the human eye is incapable of seeing most 1080i on anything less than 50 inches, so i would recommend going with a 720p plasma.

Aside from Pioneer, the best picture out there is the new Panasonic which is as sleek looking as any other brand out there.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panasonic-42-Plasma-HDTV-TH-42PX80U/sem/rpsm/oid/205247/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

When i was shopping for my TV, a good friend who was a senior sales rep at best buy helped me out and saved me from spending extra money for something you wont notice, And at the price of the Panasonic, it cannot be beat.

Did anyone else buy the Polaroid '42 lcd TV that was on the front page of the WalMart Black Friday ad?
Q. I got it buy I'm having trouble finding any reviews of it. There's one guy on Amazon that hates it. And the few consumer review sites I found said that for the money it's a good buy for a mid level TV. For $798, I feel I got a good deal, but I'd like to find out what others think, and where they keep their TV settings at.

A. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this tv isnt very good. this is not a mid level hdtv is is a low level hdtv. a good deal for the money? yes. is it worth it? no. polaroid make good cameras. thats it. their tvs are crap. they are cheap, have poor picture quality and use very cheap parts. also there is no fixing these tvs. they are a throw away tv. so i hope you pray this tv doesnt have any problems. you could have spent as little as an extra $200 and gotten a great name brand tv with much better quality and reliability. i personally think you should return it and get a better name brand one. believe me you really get what you pay for in hdtvs. get a brand like panasonic, sony, toshiba, sharp, samsung, lg. yes yes i know they are more money, but it will be well worthit. these are tier 1 or high level of quality tvs. you can even get a tier 2 or mid level hdtv like an olevia that will be a heck of alot better than that polaroid. im not trying to be rude at all. this is just my experience talking. so good luck.

How will the prices for LCD HDTVs change in 2008?

Q. I've noticed some major stores selling 42-inch widescreen LCD HDTVs for under a thousand bucks... it's a lot of money to drop for something that will contribute only to my sitting around and being unproductive, but still, at that price, it's tempting.

I'm wondering, will the prices for such TVs continue to drop (especially around / after holiday season) or is at at a plateau for the time being?

A. The new 12/07 Consumer Reports magazine projects a price drop of 25-30% over the next year for popular size plasmas and LCDs. Generally speaking, the best times of the year to buy a TV on sale is in April, July, and November.

How to make my PS2 look better on my 42" LCD TV?
Q. My PS2 looks like crap on my new 42" LCD HDTV. I have the component cables, changed the output to "component," but it still looks bad, almost "super nintendo-ish." I've set the aspect ratio to 4:3, which is a little better, but I'd like to take advantage of the 16:9 without sacrificing quality. What else can I do? I don't want to spend the money on another system, but I thought the PS2 would look better than it does.
how do you up the screen resolution?

A. Have to upped the screen resolution???

Okay go into the televising/monitor settings and look for adjustments for sharpness, contrast, and brightness. On my TV there's adjustments for different warmth's too, like cold, and warm, kinda like a washing machine. I've set my sharpness high, contrast about 75% and brightness about 60%. After I did that my PS2 looked a whole lot better. If these don't help ya I'd suggest going to the store or the manufacture to get the dead on best settings. I wish ya all the luck my friend!!!
