how to ship a 65 inch tv?

Q. I just sold a Mitsubishi WD-65738 65-Inch 3D DLP HDTV for a great price. The problem is I need to ship it from San Jose to LA.

Products dimensions are 58.2 x 39.5 x 16 inches but it only weights about 80 pounds. The good part is UPS will probably ship it for 70-150$ the problem is I have no idea where to get a box. How do I handle this?

He wan't one with Good Cable-Management, so his Cables aren't Exposed to much.

A. There are several 60- to 65-inch flat-panel LCD HD monitors and TVs available (see the HDTV Solutions resource listed below.) However, other than Sharp�s LC65D64U and Olevia�s 265T FHD HDTVs, they are quite expensive, especially when compared to the more cost-effective, large screen alternatives such as plasma displays and front projection systems.

Within a fairly reasonable price range for the 57- to 65-inch class of flat panel displays I recommend that you give strong consideration to models from Panasonic (model TH-58PZ800U) and Pioneer (models PRO-151FD or PDP-6010FD.) As a distant choice you may want to take a look at the Samsung PN63A650 and PN58A650 plasma HDTVs, perhaps even models from Hitachi and LG Electronics.

For close to the price of a high quality, high performance, large screen flat-panel (plasma) display you can purchase a much more versatile, arguably better performing, front projector IF you have the ability to reasonably control the ambient light in your viewing environment. If you choose to go this route then you will have a multitude of good, cost-effective choices that will allow you to obtain a high quality, theater-like video image in the 65- to 100-inch size range. My top choice/recommendation is JVC�s DLA-RS2U D-ILA (LCoS) projector followed by JVC�s DLA-RS1X and DLA-HD100 D-ILA projectors with honorable mention going to Sony�s VPL-VW60 (great performer but not much light output hence a smaller-than-average screen size is best) and Epson�s Home Cinema 1080 UB and Pro Cinema 1080 UB 3LCD projectors. There are also several good (single-chip) DLP projectors that may also be worth considering particularly if ambient light control is an issue, in which case you should take a close look at Optoma�s impressive HD81-LV projector. It�s also worth noting that several of these home theater projectors can be used with an aftermarket anamorphic lens/prism attachment* (Schneider Optics, Panamorph, or the do-it-yourself CAVX Aussiemorphic Lens kit) to project an immersive, theater-like 2.35:1 video image when watching movies.

There is one notable drawback with a projection system, especially if you will be using such a system for all of your day-to-day television viewing, and that is the cost of maintenance; specifically the cost of periodic relamping. If you are able to keep your viewing environment sufficiently light-free, thereby allowing you to run the projector more conservatively in terms of light output, then you may be able to extend the relamping intervals saving yourself money.

At this point in time the Panasonic V Series plasma displays offer the best value in terms of initial cost versus overall picture quality, esp. where more than one or two people are expected to be viewing the screen at one time. For me the choice between a CCFL-backlit LCD TV and any of the Samsung PNB850/860 series, Panasonic V series or Pioneer KURO plasma displays is easy - I overwhelmingly prefer the picture quality of plasma; but I also ensure that the room is always dark when viewing movies and certain TV programs.

As good as the latest LED-backlit LCD TV’s are, particularly the top-of-the-line Samsung models, and as good as the Panasonic V10 series are, the Pioneer KURO and Elite KURO plasma TV’s and monitors continue to remain the reference standard against which all top performing consumer displays are being compared.

In the process of choosing a new fixed-pixel flat panel display, irrespective of the display technology, it is very important that you take into consideration the performance of the image and video processing of the flat-panel TV’s in which you’re interested, esp. if you regularly watch standard definition video content such as DVD-Video as well as SD programming from Cable TV, DBS and/or OTA.

One final word of advice: you should make every effort to visit your local dealers and thoroughly and carefully evaluate each of the displays which interest you, preferably under viewing conditions that are (adjusted to be) similar to yours.

What kind of flat screen TV should we look for if we don't want to double our electric bill? We do want High Definition picture though and we are thinking of around 42 inches that can be mounted on a wall.

A. Your dad is being overzealous!

Obviously if you go from a 30" CRT TV to a 65" Plasma TV, you're going to see a noticeable rise in your electric bill! But it's not going to be enough to break your dad's wallet!

However, 42" LCD and Plasma TV are very common size for HDTVs. And most are energy star rated so you don't have to worry about a significant rise in your electric bill! If there is any rise at all, you probably won't notice it unless you're looking for it!

This is a TV that i recommend a lot because it's made by the most reliable brand of HDTVs i've ever seen, as well as it's an affordable TV that provides an outstanding picture quality! It's one of the most energy efficient Plasma models made too!

What kind of flat screen TV should we look for if we don't want to double our electric bill? We do want High Definition picture though and we are thinking of around 42 inches that can be mounted on a wall.

A. Your dad is being overzealous!

Obviously if you go from a 30" CRT TV to a 65" Plasma TV, you're going to see a noticeable rise in your electric bill! But it's not going to be enough to break your dad's wallet!

However, 42" LCD and Plasma TV are very common size for HDTVs. And most are energy star rated so you don't have to worry about a significant rise in your electric bill! If there is any rise at all, you probably won't notice it unless you're looking for it!

What's the difference between Plasma and LCD?

Q. I'm purchasing a 52" television and i'm wondering what the difference is between a Plasma and and LCD HDTV. How is the picture? The LCD's are more expensive.

A. plasma is used when there is alot of LIGHT in the room. LCD in less light to no light rooms. LCD has a bulb to be easly replaced .Plasma no bulb. LCD Weighs less beacuse it does not need a thick peice of glass. You could go BIGGER for the same price with a DLP lcd for the price of a 50inch you get a 62-65 inch. Choose what you want by the Light in the room. buy a 1080P not i and a nice blueray player to get the best quality movie pic out.

A. Plasma vs LCD

The ADVANTAGES of Plasma over LCD are:

1. Larger screen size availability.

2. Better contrast ratio and ability to render deeper blacks.

3. Better color accuracy and saturation.

4. Better motion tracking (little or no motion lag in fast moving images).

The DISADVANTAGES of Plasma vs LCD include:

1. Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images.

2. Plasma TVs generate more heat than LCDs, due to the need to light of phosphors to create the images.

3. Does not perform as well at higher altitudes.

4. Shorter display life span - this used to be the case. Early Plasmas had 30,000 hours or 8 hrs of viewing a day for 9 years, which was less than LCD. However, screen life span has now improved and 60,000 hour life span rating are now common, with some sets rated as high as 100,000 hours, due to technology improvements.

LCD television ADVANTAGES over Plasma include:

1. No burn-in of static images.

2. Cooler running temperature.

3. No high altitude use issues.

4. Increased image brightness over Plasma.

5. Lighter weight (when comparing same screen sizes) than Plasma counterparts.

6. Longer display life used to be a factor, but now LCD and Plasma sets both have at least 60,000 hour or higher lifespans.

DISADVANTAGES of LCD vs Plasma televisions include:

1. Lower contrast ratio, not as good rendering deep blacks.

2. Not as good at tracking motion (fast moving objects may exhibit lag artifacts) - However, this is improving with the recent implementation of 120Hz screen refresh rates in higher-end LCD sets.

3. Not as common in large screen sizes above 42-inches as Plasma. However, the number is growing fast, with 46 and 47-inch screen sizes becoming more common, and some LCD sets having a screen size as large as 65-inches now available to the general public.

4. Although LCD televisions do not suffer from burn-in susceptibility, it is possible that individual pixels on an LCD televisions can burn out, causing small, visible, black or white dots to appear on the screen. Individual pixels cannot be repaired, the whole screen would need to be replaced at that point, if the individual pixel burnout becomes annoying to you.

5. LCD televisions are typically more expensive than equivalent-sized Plasma televisions (although this is changing), especially when comparing EDTV Plasmas to HDTV-LCD Televisions.
