Pls... Pls... Answer Someone, Does regular cable work in HDTV?

Q. I am currently subscribed with SHAW classic cable. I want to buy a new LCD/Plasma tv, but i don't know if I have to upgrade to digital cable. Please help me on this matter.

A. You will receive standard definition analog cable in the same way you do now-no HDTV. When analog OTA TV disappears in February of '09, cable is only required to provide analog versions of the OTA digital TV available in your area, and only until 2012. If you want anything more than the standard channels-2,4,5 Etc, you'll need to go to a digital box, or to a HDTV box.

Why does my HDTV screen do this each time it powers on?
Q. I have a 46" Sony BRAVIA HDTV and each time I turn it off and go to sleep, the next time I turn it on, it always has this divided / cut misaligned screen problem..

It eventually goes away after 10-20 minutes but I fear that one day it wont stop..

Heres a pic:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll287/mattrocks90/25c1e387.jpg

A. It's a bad LCD panel. It goes back to normal once the set warms up. Check Sony's web site. I had one today they've extended the warranty until 10/31/2012. This is why you take the extended warranty. You may have dogged a bullet on this one.

What is the best HDTV of 2012 so far?

Q. Please clarify in each HDTV's respective category.

-Plasma TV
-LED TV
-LCD TV
-Smart TV
-TVs to come
-Best Design for a TV (Panel type is irrelevant)

Please provide detailed explanations.

A. I bought my LG 47 inch cinema 3D smart TV some weeks back. For me, I was considering attributes like price, design, picture quality and accurate colour to give the best credit for my TV. I guess other people may have a different opinion and may select a tv that may be different from mind but I prefer passive sets period.

Lcd 120hz vs Plasma 600hz?
Q. I will play video games 100% or the time on one of these hdtvs. Should I go with a 720p 600hz plasma or a 1080p 120hz Lcd. Both tvs are made by the same company.

A. The above post is incorrect. The screen glare problem has not been solved. Plasma screens are the glossy type. When I went to best buy, i noticed severe reflections from all angles. There is even a video done by CNET on the VT30 plasma TV (last years panasonic flagship model and also the TV in my bedroom) on youtube where you can see significant reflections even in a darker room. Plasma TVs are best suited for rooms with controlled lighting. In those conditions the plasma TV will produce great PQ. Also plasma TVs consume the same amount of power as the older plasma models. You can verify this through many review sites such as FlatpanelsHD or CNET. They measure the total watts consumption per hour and have it down on a chart. If you are adamant on purchasing a plasma, then I would recommend the ST50 by Panasonic. It is their most inexpensive plasma TV and it has gotten great reviews.

Now I recommend to you a LED LCD TV for gaming. My reasons are : if you plan on gaming a long time, your TV will not overheat and burn-in issues are non-existent. (i have seen burn-ins on a panasonic vt30 after only 5 months--even with the screen wipe feature in use). Also 3D gaming is a big plus for me so the comfort of the glasses will become significant enough to where it will affect the type of TV you may purchase. You will be able to play during the day. LED LCD TVs are very bright. Most 2012 LED TVs however have a glossy screen as well. You will get some unwanted reflections. I highly recommend LG's LW series 3D LED TVs (2011 models). They have a matte screen for unparalleled brightness and since its 2012 now, should be priced even lower than its competition.

samsung hdtv un46C, un46D, or UN46E?

Q. What's the difference between the C, D, and E? All I want is sick picture and sound. I don't care for extra features this TV will simply be used to play videogames and watch a movie every now and then

A. A quick explanation of the Samsung serial numbers:

Part 1, the display technology: UN = LED, LN = LCD, PN = plasma
Part 2, the size: easy to recognize, it's 46-inch
Part 3, the series: D6000, ES8000, C7000, loads of variations. The C series are from 2010, D is from 2011, E(S) is from 2012. The number indicates the specs/features.

A few examples: UN46Cxxxx is a 46-inch LED screen from 2010, a PN55Dxxxx is a 55-inch plasma from 2011. A UN55D7000 has the same features as a UN46D7000, just a bigger screen.

Over the last years, image quality improved but not as fast as new fancy features were added. If you don't need gesture control, internet access, smart TV features and apps, a HDTV from 2010 would be perfectly fine, the irony is that most of them are more expensive now that the new 2012 ones. The UN46C6500 for example costs about $1.4k, the UN46ES6500 slightly more than $1k.

Bottom line: My recommendation would be the UN46EH6000. No 3D, no unneeded features, but 240Hz refresh rate, decent image quality, 2x HDMI, 1x USB, Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby Pulse, barely more than $800 for a perfect "basic" HDTV. Sick sound? All modern flatscreen HDTVs have built-in 10-20 watt speakers. That's far from perfect, no matter what manufacturer you look at, these thin little speakers can't do wonders. Some sort of home theatre kit is definitely recommended for all audiophiles.

Which is better LG or Samsung Plasma for 2012 Models?
Q. I decided to buy entry level 50" Plasma TV, and please don't say just buy LED because it's out of my budget and i see that the colors of Plasma is good for me. i found these 2 models: Samsung PS51E450 and LG 50PA4500. so which is better and which has the best contrast, brightness and vibrant colors LG or Samsung

PS: My local store has only these two 50" Plasmas and i saw the LG picture quality but unfortunately the Samsung isn't in the Showroom and that's why I'm asking this question.

A. LG 42LM6200 42-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV is the best, was a Samsung fan and then far, referable to the price for the LG quality I will straight off actuate to LG. Heavy it works in 240V equally substantially then can pack with me if I run out of US. UPDATE: The skype app is non usable for this TV until lg release a novel Skype camera

Questions about Panasonic GT50 THX Cinema picture mode?
Q. I purchased a 50" GT50 HDTV a few days ago and I absolutely LOVE it! The picture is amazing. I was playing around with the picture modes though and i noticed one called "THX Cinema". How is this different from the regular "Cinema" mode? When i switch between them all that's obvious is that the picture looks a bit smaller but more complete (like it zooms out a tiny bit). Of course I'm completely ignorant to all this technical stuff so what do I know. Can anyone explain this to me? I the THX mode optimal for movies and such?

A. For a given manufacturer’s compliant display, THX [picture] modes are intended to provide a set of simple preset picture settings that conform to THX’s carefully chosen criteria for video image quality. Ideally the preset THX picture settings should provide the most natural or accurate video image quality short of a professional video display “calibration.” In reality, for the more demanding perfectionist it is relatively easy to surpass the image quality performance offered by the preset THX picture modes on the 2012 Panasonic plasma display panels by using the Custom picture mode along with proper display calibration software and hardware.

In addition:

THX picture modes (according to Panasonic GT50 series eHELP, page 25):

‘Precisely reproduces the original quality of the image without any revision.’

‘Recommended for playback of THX disc[s] (disc[s] with “THX” logo.) THX mode is used to mirror the picture settings used by professional filmmakers, faithfully reproducing the image quality of THX Certified movies. (THX Certified movies have the “THX” logo on a disc.)’

I have a new TV bought last year it's a 32" TOSHIBA HDTV LCD Widescreen?

Q. As Far as I know it may not be HDCP compliant.I have cable and I getting a HDTV,DVR cable box.My question is if it's not HDCP compliant.....Will I still be able to view or see my HI Def picture after 2010?
I'm not referring to the digital switch over on Feb 17th,2009.
HDCP means: High Defintion Content Protection.

A. HDCP is an inert technology : it’s up to the movie studios to deploy it (or not) as a copy-protection scheme.

HDCP notifies the player if there’s a non-HDCP device in the playback chain.

Software in the player then executes the rules (established by the media owner) that are encoded within the content.

What concerns you here within HDCP is the ICT (The Image Constraint Token) rule : a rule that gives content owners the power to make the software stop playing content or downsample video to a 960x540 resolution (a fraction of the image quality you should normally get) if HDCP is missing at any stage in the playback chain.

The Image Constraint Token is invoked on a per-disc basis.

The good news for you is that so far it seems no studio has activated the technology in their current releases (Blu-ray discs).

The fatidic date you mentioned is based on a rumor. It is now more commonly advanced that studios would have informally agreed not to implement it until at least 2012.

The good news is that Sony, Disney, Fox, Paramount, MGM and Universal have already stated that they have no intention of using this feature. The other studios, which have yet to announce their plans, will most likely follow suit to avoid getting bad publicity. If any of the studios still decide to use ICT they will have to state this on the cover of their movies, so you should have no problem avoiding these titles.

My RCA HDTV w/DVD when powering on has sound but no picture, what's the issue?
Q. My RCA TV when turned on has sound, shows via the TV screen that the HD-MI connection (to the cable box) is on but no picture; at least initially. If I then turn the TV on and off a few times, the picture will then appear and the TV works fine from that point on. The TV model is 22la45RQD, a 2012 RCA 22" HDTV with DVD player, manufactured by On Corp US. The TV and all connections are plugged into a power strip. I did unplug the TV (and all other TV related connections from the power strip), for abut 5-10 minutes, but that didn't make any difference. I did check all the connections and they are fine. Anyone know what the issues is and if there is anything I can do to fix it? Keep in mind the TV is just about 1 year old and cost less than $200.

A. Hi,

It sounds like a Issue with the LCD backlight, probably the inverter has packed up.

Here's an experiment! :) When the TV is on but there is no picture, shine a torch (flash-light) onto the screen. If you can vaguely see the picture you know its a backlight problem. If you cannot, I'd say its a problem with the cable box or the cable you are using to go between the box and TV.

Pls...

I am looking at purchasing a LCD TV, but as everyone knows there are hundreds of kinds. Which make is the best
Q. 32" LCD TV with HDTV enabled.

A. I posted this for someone with the same thing about a Plasma but it covers the same thing i hope : ) BTW Get one with Freeview built in aswell if you live in the UK! Come 2012 you will be glad you did!

Woteva you wanna believe SONY ARE NOT THE BEST!

They have received over the years a very good reputation in the electrical market but they are a bunch of wankers when you need warranty work undertaking. The best Plasma televisions are not always the most expensive, you don't always need overpriced "Tat"! The 3 Top Makes in the more well known brands are:

1. LG - These guys are brilliant with all vision equipment (+ u get a 2 year warranty as standard)

2. Samsung - Owned by sony, but use their own warranty unit so you don't have to deal with sony, and a fraction of the sony prices.

3. Philips - Again brilliant with vision products recently and have produced some sound units.

When shopping round don't forget to check out the "Budget" makes, they do sometimes offer the same spec but for a lot less, because don't forget a PLASMA only has an average life span of 8 Years before the gas burns out, and despite what people say YOU CANNOT GET THEM RE-GASSED!!! An example of budget makes are Matsui (Dixons & Currys own Brand), Maxim (At Dixons, Currys & Comet) and Logik (Dixons & Currys).

But do shop around and play companies off against each other because I know for a fact Dixons (soon to be Currys.Digital) and Currys Price Match and Beat by 10%.

Hope that helped.

What is the better choice between LED and LCD HDTV's?

Q. I am in the first stage of buying a new flat screen TV and I need a reliable source on which is better. I have seen some that include both LED-LCD in their description. What does this mean?. Please enlighten me! The universe will reward you further if you could include a link to a good 32" to 42" TV. Thanks!!

A. Both LED and LCD are LCD tvs. Different backlights. LED are the newer tech and are still having new tech issues. Clouding, flashlighting at the corners of the screen and other screen anomolies.

If you want 3D you have to get an LED. LEDs have the newest internal tech also. LCD are being shifted to the lower line tvs but they have fewer problems. If you want the latest and greatest you should get LED. If you are OK with older tech but fewer issues, you should go with LCD.

Go with a Samsung or Sony tv. The universe should be satisfied with that as they both are coming out with new models as we speak, so links are not available if you want the newest 2012 models.
