Vizio GV42L 42" HDTV LCD settings?

Q. I just bought a Vizio GV42L 42" LCD HDTV. Just a few questions:
1) what settings have you used for cable programming and/or movies, as I hear to get good picture you really need to tweak it right.
2) I have my comcast HD DTS box and progressive scan DVD player connected to the Vizio using component cables. When I'm watching an HD channel, it does look HD, and when I'm watching a DVD It does look much higher quality than typical analog cables..However, when I press the info button. It still says resolution coming it at only 480i. Should I be concerned and/or try using HDMI cables instead?
~Gavin Ng

A. I ran into this problem with my Samsung LCD.. the Cox Cable HD box wasn't automatically converting the signal to 1080i. You'll have to go into the settings of your cable box and manually switch it to 1080i... I ran through a setup process that it displays a bunch of screens and which ever one you can see it programs the box to use ...after that it automatically switched between the 1080i for the HD channels and lower 720/480 for the non HD channels.

Call your cable provider.. thats what i did to figure out the setup program.

Which is better a 42" LCD HDTV or a 42" Plasma HDTV? Why is it better?

Q.

A. This question has been asked many times, so I've formulated my standard answer. Here it is:

Picture quality of plasma is brighter, better color, better blacks than LCD. (There is something about looking directly at glowing phosphors!)

Sharpness is the same for equivalent pixel counts. Some newer LCDs have 1080 x 1920 resolution, most plasmas still in the 720 x 1280 range.

Plasma is heavier and uses more power than flat panel LCD.

There are reports that plasmas are not as reliable or they don't last as long, but that is no longer true with the latest models. Plasma phosphors dim slowly over time (but nt as fast as CRT phosphors); but direct view LCDs use flourescent lamps which also dim and eventually burn out (some are replaceable). Projection LCD sets have bulbs of limited life, but are replaceable and the lifetime is a few thousand hours of viewing.

Plasmas are subject to burn-in. A stationary image left on the screen for a long time could produce a permanent ghost image. The most risk is when viewing a lot of 4:3 ratio pictures (non-HD), which are displayed with vertical dark areas on the left and right to fill in the wide screen. There are ways to minimize this, however. many sets have a "stretch" mode which widens the picture to fill the whole screen.

Plasmas come in largers sizes, although large flat panel LCDs are coming out, but they are expensive. LCD projectors can be 70".

LCD contrast and brightness can be reduced when viewing from off-center (both flat and projector, but sets will vary).

How much is a screen and LCD for a TV?

Q. I bought a 42" Vizio 1080P LCD HDTV for $750 about a year and a half ago with a 2 year service plan. The TV fell off the stand and broke the screen and LCD display. Apparently the damn 2 year service plan won't cover falls even though the employee told me it would. (If I would've known that I wouldn't have bought the service plan.) Anyway, I can't see anything on the screen except for the huge spots from the damaged LCD. I hear it's usually cheaper to buy a new TV than to fix them but I was just wondering how much it would cost anyway, just in case. (You never know until you ask!) Any information you guys can give would be very helpful.

A. Currently, you can get a Vizio'' 1080 LCD HDTV with 3D for as low as $523 at amazon. This is an extremely great deal for a TV with 3D technology as well as two 3D glasses also comes with it. This TV also has built in Wi-Fi. I personally think its better if you buy a new TV rather than fixing it as the repair cost might be able to get you even a newer version of the HDTV you are fixing.
I have provided the link below for you.

How do I get the surround sound to go on my TV?
Q. I ave a Magnavox 42" LCD HDTV with Dolby surround sound built in.We got a Phillips DVD progressive scan home system with speakers. We can only get the DVD and radio to work on the surround sound but not the TV.We do not have the HD cables if that matters.Basic cable is on it.

A. You can do one of two things. If I'm understanding you correctly, you have a dvd player which is built in to the main reciever on your home theater unit. On these units they have very few external inputs. Meaning that the ability for them to run other sources is quite limited. If it has a AUX or TV input on the back you can run a set of audio cables from the audio OUT on the back of your TV to either one of these inputs. You would then need to read your Tv's manual to find out how to enable the AUDIO OUT jacks. You will not get true surround sound as you will not be running a digital source. The phillips unit will process the signal into Dolby Prologic, which is simulated surround sound. For true surround sound, you wil need an HD soure of some kind, and a new home theater reciever. Hope this helps.

How do I secure a 42 inch Flat Screen TV to the wall without using screws?

Q. I just bought a new LG 42LH30 42-Inch LCD HDTV. It's just sitting on the table now and I want to secure it to the wall. Since I live in a rented apartment, I don't want to put too many holes in the wall. Are there any products out there that will allow me to secure the TV to the wall without using any kind of screws?

Thank you!

A. The best you can do os to get an entertainment center that will allow you hang a tv from it instead of the wall here's an example http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=635499&fromPageCatId=103150&catNavId=103150

Where can I get a filter capacitor for a ProScan lcd hdtv?
Q. And how much does it cost? I am thinking about buying it from my friend for real cheap. It's a 42" 1080p 720 lcd hdtv. I need to know how much the part is and where I can get it at.

A. If you are adept at electronics repair and have all of the necessary tools, the reference in the other answer is a good one. But in my experience, the people who have the necessary experience to take on a job like this don't have to ask where to obtain parts. This may be something that you need a professional technician or a very capable do-it-yourselfer to help you with. Good luck.

What's the difference like when playing blu ray on a 720p hdtv rather than a 1080p?
Q. i have a 42" samsung 720p lcd hdtv. is it still worth getting a blu ray player?

is there a noticeable or big difference between using a 720p and 1080p when playing blu ray?

A. most won't tell the difference for 1080p until you get over a certain size and distance from the screen.

Most would agree that 1080p after 46" starts to be a "must have". your under that so it really depends on your player and tv set.

don't listen to the guy talking about hdmi being the only way to get HD. I use component just fine for my ps3 and other blu ray players. I don't even have a 1080p set but I prefer my "tweaked avia set" over those over blown contrast sets you get these days. It's all preference.

I run mine at 1080i and 720p.

Hdmi is by far the cheapest way to go since it's one cable and you don't have to worry about shielding as much as a component cable.

There is a difference from HD over cable/sat, Over the Air (OTA), and blu ray/ HD dvd. Watch the bit rate stream. PS3 lets you watch it as it is playing. Cable/Sat is capped and OTA is generally better if you have a good signal since it's not as compressed.

How Do You Hook Up an Old DVD Player to a new HDTV?

Q. I have an Toshiba 42" 1080p LCD HDTV REGZA, cable box and a DVD Player. I can't figure out how to hook up my DVD player to either my TV. My cable cords use the same cords slots as my DVD player.

A. Since you said your DVD player is old, I assume it does not have an HDMI output. If it had component video (Red, Green, Blue) then you need a component cable and you can connect it to the HDTV. You still need red and white audio (composite) to get the audio to your TV. If you do not have component output, then your only bet is composite (yellow for video, red and white for audio). HDTVs are intelligent enough to recognize all the inputs you plug into them.

Why do I confuse my LCD HDTV with the plasma TV we have in the living room?

Q. Why do I confuse my LCD HDTV with the 42 inch plasma we have in the living room.
Why do I always get to thinking that my LCD HDTV is a plasma TV when I am watching my TV in my room,

I have an Insignia 32 inch(NS-L32X-10A) 1080p and I always feel like I am watching a plasma TV,why is that?

A. LCD TV and plasma TV are the two different type of TV . plasma TV is a very huge up about 50inch , as LCD are smaller TV not more than 40inch . and the lifespans of Plasma TV also slighly shorter and power rating also higher than LCD TV , this is what I knew so far .
