Hi is there a way making my 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P look crystal clear?

Q. Hi I own a 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P & I also own both PS3 & Charter HD cable box. I use 6ft Belkin HDMI cable for my PS3 & Charter HD cable box. Ok when I watch Blu-ray movie or HD channels, the picture it doesn't look that good compare to the Best-buy store & my 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P it is only almost 2 yrs old. In my good or is it because I have 720P resolution instead of 1080P? Thank you!
My HDTV manual book it says that it has 60Hz. What is Hz?

A. If you are watching from a normal viewing distance (6ft - 8ft or greater) then you really wouldn't need 1080p at all. In sets of 37" and smaller, most consumer and guru guides will tell you that you just don't see the advantages of 1080p anyway. Its not worth spending your money on. So the 720p is unlikely to be causing you any problems.

Hz is the refresh rate of the TV. In reality all North American TVs are 60Hz. Its 50Hz in Europe and most of the rest of the world. In playback terms, it just means that its playing it back 'normally'. In larger LCD sets, that normal playback can result in motion blur (ghost trails). This is compensated for with 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates. But these are just playback 'adjustments' they aren't real refresh rates (like you might think from a computer monitor). They help hide the blur issues basically. This is a premium feature though and you have to buy a premium model to get it.

Your TV, more often than not, won't look exactly like it would in a store. Stores manipulate things, such as the lighting, and the settings on the TV, to achieve an unnaturally vibrant look. Its good for selling TVs, its not the greatest for actually watching them though.

But if you think you need to be getting more out of your TV, then you should hit up a TV store, electronics store, DVD store, etc. and get a calibration DVD. This will help you adjust your TV settings to optimize it for your room. Make sure when you set this up that the lighting conditions are what you typically have when you use the set (as the lighting conditions will impact the final values you end up using).

Whats the difference between dynex 32"(dx-lcd32) and dynex 37"(dx-lcd37) lcd hdtv?

Q. I'm looking at the specs at BestBuy.com and I cannot find the Response time for the 37" Dynex. On the 32" it has a 8ms response time ample for gaming. I bought the 37 and it lags a bit with some of the games. And i was wondering if it had an 8ms response time too. It doesn't list it in the manual, on the dynex website or anywhere. Bottom line, What is the refresh rate for a dynex 37" lcd hdtv? (dx-lcd37)

A. 8ms is usually the minimum. dynex is a low quality hdtv, and although the 32" and 37" have different size panels the interio electronics are most likely very similiar ( it cheaper to use the same parts ) so i dont see a reason that dynex to change specs between sizes. so my educated guess would be it is 8ms. just so you know lcds as a whole have had problems with lag. especially with games. some dont show any lag at all , my 32" toshiba shows no lag. most of the higher quality name brands like panasonic, sharp toshiba sony samsung, do a better job at lag and have a better response time. but youpay for the quality. you get what you pay for in hdtvs. so in other words i see noreason it would not be 8ms. but that doesnt mean it wont lag. good luck

Best LCD 37" HDTV?
Q. Which is the best LCD HDTV for value and quality?

A. there is one tv i would recommend checking out at the 37 in. size...but before i mention those, might i recommend staying away from the 37 in. plasmas?

anyway, the phillips LCD with ambient light. The feature actually does not run up the price point (usually around $1500) and the picture is awesome. it's got a good contrast ratio - 4,000/1 i think - but is only 1080i/720p.

tvs plasmas or lcd questions?

Q. hello friends I'm saving some money to buy tv. but I'm not sure
which I should
buy
if you say plasma tell me way thanks

A. TV size matters. Read enough consumer and guru HDTV guides and you'll see that for most high end tech specs you want to break 40", and more so 50". In sets of 37" or smaller, you just need a basic TV (from a good brand, but just the basic spec sheet). You just don't notice the advantages of the better tech specs in those sized sets. So you don't get bang for your dollar then. If you get a smaller set with a high end feature, hey it won't hurt you at all, its just not worth the $.

The high end tech specs I'm talking about are 1080p (vs 720p), 120Hz/240Hz (vs 60Hz), LED LCD (vs CCFL LCD), and Plasma (vs LCD, either type). So if you break 50" a Plasma of 1080p is the way to go for sure quality wise. If you're doing 37" or less then look a CCFL LCD of 720p and 60Hz. In the 40"-46" range its a bit of a grey area. There are people who will argue for going into better features there and those that will argue against.

LCDs are inherently flawed in motion playback. They suffer from motion blur (ghost trails). This is compensated for with 120Hz and 240Hz sets. The feature helps the issue a lot, but it is not 100%. And you pay a huge price premium for the option.

CCFL LCDs (the majority) produce muted colors, grey blacks, and have a so-so contrast. This is compensated for with the LED LCD. The LED backlight vastly improves all of those aspects of image quality (but doesn't impact motion playback). LED LCD though still isn't quite Plasma levels. And you pay an even bigger price premium for this upgraded feature.

Plasma is inherently near instantaneous in its response time. This means it plays back motion flawlessly (just like a CRT or DLP would). And it does so right out of the box. You're not paying extra for this, its inherent to the technology. If you see stuff like 480Hz or 600Hz sub-field drive, this is something else, its not the refresh rate like of LCDs. Its actually more marketing than anything else. The two technologies are just very different.

Plasma will deliver vivid colors, true blacks, and deep contrast. Again it will do so right out of the box. You are not going to be paying extra for this. So it inherently delivers a stronger image quality.

Plasma really only suffers from myths and misconceptions. In the early days of the technology it suffered from burn-in, short life spans, a high price tag, and high levels of energy consumption. But that was decades ago, and all of those problems have long since been corrected. Modern Plasmas don't suffer from burn-in. The better brands even offer extra anti-image retention features, beyond the advancements in the technology. There are now sets that last from 60,000 - 100,000 hours (which is equal to or better than any LCD). The prices are actually a lot cheaper than comparable LCDs, because a comparable LCD would have to be 120Hz/240Hz and LED based. And you can buy energy star certified sets for Plasma now, so no more power issues.

If you go Plasma, look to Panasonic Viera first and foremost. With Pioneer getting out of the game, Panasonic is the leader in Plasma now. And their prices are really solid (and affordable). If that just isn't for you, then you can settle with either Samsung or LG Plasmas then.

If you go LCD in 37" or smaller, I actually kind of like Panasonic again. I prefer their color and black quality over other brands. They are known as a Plasma company for sure, but they make great smaller sized LCDs too. If that isn't for you, or you do want a bigger LCD, then look to Samsung and Sony first and foremost. They are the going to give you the best image quality. You can also through in Sharp Aquos, LG, and Toshiba in any size LCD consideration. All those 3 brands have respectable models.

getting new LCD HDTV?

Q. most ppl say plasma is bad, why?
im getting a new one its 37''. HDTV and its LCD.
my friend said its bad to play games on LCDs, it mess it up?

A. all these technologies have different properties, so in a nutshell.

Plasma, bad if you in high altitude (color distortion, only a big deal if you like me in Colorado) most expensive per sq inch, but under the right condition can have the best colors. but if you want least cost for most sq inch, this is not the way to go.

LCD is the same technology in computer screen. When you get into large area's say 25sq inch, it becomes a lot of processing to get fluid movement without goasting. (more noticeable in video games). and dead pixels and other things are a factor (fragile and expensive, but you can get high resolution)

LCD projection; . LCD projection works kinda like a little projector but instead of going onto the wall it goes onto a screen inside the tv. Making it the cheapest to make, While still being 1080p at 50inch you can still get a tv for under 1500. so other pluses is it is the lightest, (easly moved with one person) good for being a gamer taking it places all the time, And pretty durable. some can be dim and some people do question the quality but just be sure you like how it looks before you by. and for the price you cant beat it.

Element 37" LCD HDTV, $599.99, from circuit city, good or bad?
Q. I'm looking at buying a lcd tv, this will be my first lcd. I need some feedback from people who actually hav this tv in there home. I'm really not sure what a good tv choice will be. I kno some tv's hav issues and some don't, regardless of the brand. I just need a little help....?

A. Element is NOT a good tv. If you are purchasing a 37" tv and want a good picture and good reliability, then expect to pay minimum $800-850. Your more reliable brands and better picture quality will come from LG and Sony first, then Mitsubishi and Toshiba, then Samsung and Panasonic and Sharp. Do not be fooled or led astray. Read most the questions in this forum from people wondering why their off-brand tv is broken already even though it isn't very old. I own 2 LG 37" models that sell for $1099. They make another model for $999 and their low-end model(still SOOO much better than the other brands) is $899. The $899 model is only 720p, which still isn't bad, BUT the step up model 37LG50 has about 20% more contrast, is 1080p, an extra hdmi input(3 total), a USB input for digital pics and music, and the BIGGIE is intelligent sensor auto calibration system. The next step up 37LG60 is the newer version of mine. It is the best 37" and has 70% more contrast, a 4th hdmi and all have deep color, the response time goes from 5ms to only 2.7, and you get trumotion 120hz (120 frames per second instead of 60 like on the other models). That makes a big difference in video games and sports.

The better brands are SO much less likely to have service problems. Please don't fall victim to the low-end Chinese junk brands.

thoughts?

A. It is wrong to say that an LCD will not last longer than a plasma, actually it is quite the opposite. A plasma tends to shadow a lot more than a LCD. I bought a 37" LCDTV from Best buy about 2 months ago and couldn't be any happier. It cost me only 750$. Thought it is a BestBuy brand tv, it is made with the same exact parts as its poloroid counterpart. It is call an Insignia. The tv has given me no problems, and has a beautiful picture both in SD and HD. I also play video games on it on my XBOX360 and it doesn't show very much blur either like most inexpensive no name brand Tv's. The refresh rate is about the same as any other TV in its price range no matter the size and has a great vibrant and colorfull picture.

Is there a safe way to ship a 37" LCD HDTV from NY to Quebec, Canada?

Q. Just bought my PS3 a week ago and I'm planning to buy a 37" LCD HDTV. However I'm planning to move to Quebec, Canada in 4 months. I just want to ship it via UPS or FedEx. Do you think it's gonna come in one piece?

A. UPS or FEDEX is fine. Just make sure you get alot of padding and bubble wrap!!! LCD is not as fragil as Plasma.

how do you get a burned image out of your LCD TV?
Q. I have a 37" LCD HDTV and now there are burned images on the screen. It's about a year old and I have fell asleep with it on several times but is there any way to get the images off. Some of the burns are words and dark spots to the point where its hard to see the movie I'm watching. Any tips? Please Help!

A. LCD screens should not burn images, as there is no phosphor layer to burn. You're sure it's not a plasma display?

If it is LCD, disconnect the antenna so that you get a "random static" screen. Do you still see the "ghost" images? If they have disappeared, you may not have a burning problem, but more likely you are getting cross-channel interference from an adjacent channel or from a channel that is broadcasting locally. Check all your connections and make sure there are no loose cables that might allow another signal to creep in to your set.

Will the Xbox one or PS4 work with my tv?

Q. I have a 37 inch LCD HDTV but the only input for hd is component (720p; 1080i)... I've looked online for answers but can't seem to find a solid one. I want to buy a converter to make my component input to an hdmi . Will this work or will I be stuck with being forced to get another tv.. Thanks in advance.

A. Yes you can buy a converter from ebay itll work the same way no worries

What's the best way for me to get the most out of my new HDTV?
Q. I just bought a 37" inch vizio lcd hdtv. its an E370VL. I'm just going to use it just for playing my ps3. So what settings should i put so that i can get the best video possible when playing? Also, should i get wireless speakers just so i can enhance my gaming?

The tv is in my room btw.

A. Vizio is a good set. Congrats. The best way to maximize your purchase is to know what can be hooked up. What are all of those ports for and what do they mean? Here is one example. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ytech_gadg/20101001/tc_ytech_gadg/ytech_gadg_tc3771;_ylt You are simply scratching the surface of the tv's capabilities to ignore the fact that it was built to multi-task. The more tasks assigned to it the greater are your chances you are getting the most out of your purchase. Most tvs at the 37" price point can serve as a split screen monitor connected to a laptop, a set top box like apple tv, roku or nintendo will can run through the screen. External speakers are an option, perhaps as many as three. HDMI outlets are valuable. HDMI ports stream audio and video content from one cable. TVs yours included can be the sight of a wireless hub.

On the subject of wireless speakers. I wouldn't get wireless speakers unless it makes sense in the room. The better musical sound to the critical ear comes from wired speakers. This may not be the case for a gamer. However, no need to be concerned about electrical interference causing the sound to be interrupted. We live in an increasingly wireless world, certainly it will not hurt matters to have a set. In this case I would look at the spend and the set up in the room. If the room is tight and wired is limited due to plugs and cords all over the place do what makes the most sense living in the situation.

Best.

What would you consider is the starting size of a large LCD HDTV?

Q. What would you consider is the average size of a decent LCD HDTV. Im not worried about the size of my room or whatever....etc. I want to buy an LCD HDTV that is just a little larger than normal. So......what would you consider is the starting screen size of a "larger than average" LCD HDTV? The guys at Best Buy recommended a 42in.......what do you think? Do you think a 42+ inches is the starting size of a "larger" TV size?

A. i know people who have 37" and it suits them just fine for an upgrade. My family just got a 42" but we've been putting off getting one for over 3 years...and probably won't upgrade for another 5 years at least.

Can LCD HDTV bought in US be used in Singapore or Malaysia?
Q. Thinking of buying a 32 or 37 in Samsung or others LCD HDTV in USA and taking it back to my Mum in Singapore, can this be used there if the power input is universal? I know in Singapore it is PAL but isn't there a setting in menu for either NTSC or Pal, by switching it over n will it work?

A. I don't think so. The actual electricity power may be different and the number of "cycles" per second, never mind the shape of the plug. Also there would be no warranty. Better you just buy her one when you get to Singapore.

My family just got a 42" but we've been putting off getting one for over 3 years...and probably won't upgrade for another 5 years at least.

whats the most exspensive thing in your house and how much did it cost?
Q. just woundering! mine would be my 37 in lcd hdtv! cost $1300.00 plus tax! and dont say your car!

A. Mine would be my 50 inch plasma screen TV costing at about 6000-7000$

How to change an hdtv in sd mode to get a hd picture?

Q. I recently bought a 37" Vizio LCD HDTV. However, when I press info to see the show it says the show then 480i SD. But I have an HD Cable Box and everything. How do I make it so I have an HD picture instead of an SD picture?

A. FIRST, you NEED to check your cable box....make sure in the menu that it's set to OUTPUT a 1080 signal.....if it's set for 480, that's all it will deliver to your TV set.

The TV itself is automatic....no settings in your TV to adjust.

Now, YOU NEED to use either an HDMI cable or a COMPONENT cable to get HD. You can't use your standard 3-wire cables to get HD.

Then tune your box to an HD station like Discovery HD...

What should I do concerning audio with two televisions in my living room?
Q. My roommate has a 32 inch LCD HDTV and I have a 37 inch LCD HDTV. We'd like to put both of them in the living room but we're not completely sure what to do about audio when we're watching different things. Does anybody have any suggestions? Please don't put something like only use one TV. Those answers don't help.

A. Get some wireless stereo headphones.

That is the only way you can watch two TVs this size in the same room without having volume wars...
