Hi is there a way making my 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P look crystal clear?

Q. Hi I own a 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P & I also own both PS3 & Charter HD cable box. I use 6ft Belkin HDMI cable for my PS3 & Charter HD cable box. Ok when I watch Blu-ray movie or HD channels, the picture it doesn't look that good compare to the Best-buy store & my 37"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P it is only almost 2 yrs old. In my good or is it because I have 720P resolution instead of 1080P? Thank you!
My HDTV manual book it says that it has 60Hz. What is Hz?

A. If you are watching from a normal viewing distance (6ft - 8ft or greater) then you really wouldn't need 1080p at all. In sets of 37" and smaller, most consumer and guru guides will tell you that you just don't see the advantages of 1080p anyway. Its not worth spending your money on. So the 720p is unlikely to be causing you any problems.

Hz is the refresh rate of the TV. In reality all North American TVs are 60Hz. Its 50Hz in Europe and most of the rest of the world. In playback terms, it just means that its playing it back 'normally'. In larger LCD sets, that normal playback can result in motion blur (ghost trails). This is compensated for with 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rates. But these are just playback 'adjustments' they aren't real refresh rates (like you might think from a computer monitor). They help hide the blur issues basically. This is a premium feature though and you have to buy a premium model to get it.

Your TV, more often than not, won't look exactly like it would in a store. Stores manipulate things, such as the lighting, and the settings on the TV, to achieve an unnaturally vibrant look. Its good for selling TVs, its not the greatest for actually watching them though.

But if you think you need to be getting more out of your TV, then you should hit up a TV store, electronics store, DVD store, etc. and get a calibration DVD. This will help you adjust your TV settings to optimize it for your room. Make sure when you set this up that the lighting conditions are what you typically have when you use the set (as the lighting conditions will impact the final values you end up using).
